New Zealanders don't try to be nice. We don't try because that sounds fake an act or something. That's not natural at all trying to be something. We're nice because of respect, we respect others it's as simple as that. Out Of Respect

I’m Samoan by birth but was raised in South Auckland in my home town Mangere During my work experience going door to door across land I have met all types of 🥝 while working in the community for charity And let me say this Half of the Europeans here are way too opinionated people it’s not a joke. And about 1/3 of them are Hateful individuals. See what ends up happening is that all the other race are following the same path because they are giving in to hate and letting it feed them Like even some of my own people are turning against each other There are groups, areas, individual or families in the country where racism is a normal thing. I have been in an incident where this one racist called the police on me for being a happy brown young man just doing his job. the police turns up and apologies to me saying that you have been wrongly accused police quotes “ A man called saying you were high on drugs while working for charity”. what does that tell you about this country it’s a game to these people. I could go on about the incidents that’s happened to me but I’d rather just show you’s which areas of the country where these cases are pro dominantly coming from Ofc majority of Christchurch especially PAKnSave on moorehouse & riccarton countdown, Greymouth & Hokitika to name a few I don’t want what happened to me to happen to anyone else for who’s wanting to relocate in the South Island STEALTH IS WEALTH King 🤴🏽 Don’t get me wrong there is good in the South Island especially the natural outdoor views you get in the remote areas The NZ govt needs to do better Racism is a thing in this country & the conversation should be normalised Put yourself in other peoples shoes the world doesn’t revolve around yous You know who you’s are Mind your own business is the mentality

Most New Zealanders have interacted with many people from other ethnicities, countries and even religions. We usually show a friendly acceptance and interest in others. This probably comes from respecting people as we were taught to do. But there are some rude, arrogant people here in New Zealand too. As a person who lived six years in Atlanta, GA and travelled around various states I was always shown respect and acceptance by the American people I came in contact with. It makes me sad to hear you don't get the same respect and acceptance from your own country. And it seems that it is still related to a distrust based on skin colour. That is so outdated around the world so why does it still exist in USA? I wish you could experience the welcoming acceptance that I as a white lady from New Zealand was shown in USA. Please come to New Zealand, if possible I will personally welcome you. 😁🤗🇳🇿

Five of my children have lived in New Zealand for over thirty years and have nothing but great things to say about the people and the magnificence of the country. They have assimilated with both Maori and white New Zealanders. The acceptance shown to them has been genuine and respectful. I am happy to say that I have twenty Grandchildren and many Grandnieces and nephews scattered across the North and South Islands. The choice they made to emigrate has been an extremely happy one.

He had to go to another town for the 5 working days of the week for his treatment to a 'hospice'(a place to board whilst he was away from his home.... He was picked up on Monday Morning and dropped off Friday afternoon... FREE The stay for him in the hospice... FREE The Treatment... FREE Medication... You will still get looked at for being black and tall in nz but i guarantee it will not be in disgust. It will be out of wonder. I have met so many people from around the world that just don't get why we are so welcoming. Dont be surprised if you have people offering you a place to stay. Its just how we are. For me its the joy of getting to know people. There will aways be rotten eggs but that is nothing for you to worry about people will step in and help you out. My best tip is to connect with your subscribers from nz. We got your back 100. You out here showing us that love makes us feel proud. We invested in this journey too. Man i cant wait to see your vids of your trip. If you need a camera man i do it for free. It isnt expensive if you let us locals guide you. Those travel agent businesses will fleece you. You won't meet bag eggs bro, New Zealand isn't big nor small. But we all community you know. We all know our Maori land is and will forever be a place of spirituality, culture, and built from that comes respect. For your elders. For your neighbour's (for the most part). For the necessities that have been passed down for generations. A great place to live. We do have troubled youth and a bad rep for alcohol influenced casualties. But Nz is working on it. We gonna pull through like we do. We live with the morals that we would expect other to treat us. A simple life is a happy one.
@restfulCube8035
@restfulCube8035 2 года назад
This is a tricky topic. NZ definitely does have racism and negative sides to our culture. People can be nice to your face but treat you poorly behind your back plus there's a lot of jealousy and hate towards people who carry themselves with confidence or success. I moved back after 5 years away and I've met so many fake people who act nice to your face but secretly they don't like you. It's honestly depressing. Overall though it is a safe place to live. Sadly with the economy it is getting worse with the gangs and meth but it's still a very safe country. The Black Americans that I have met here usually appreciate something that I'll try to explain. You're seen as an outsider yes but it's mainly because you're American, not because you're Black. You'll be a foreigner but we don't have the same history of segregation, slavery, all that evil stuff so you'll be free of that baggage to a certain extent. Some Maori and Pacific island people feel a strong affinity to Black culture because our history of colonialism and racial oppression has some parallels to Black culture and the history of enslavement. So with those communities you might even be seen as almost a celebrity just for being who you are. With other races in NZ it's more hit and miss. Sometimes white people can be very racist especially in small towns and honestly no one likes to admit it but there's a lot of racism going both ways between Maori and Asian/Indian people. But the point I'm trying to make is, for a Black American person it can be a good place because we don't have the same historical baggage. But don't assume NZ is a utopia without any racism because we do have a lot of racism. (Sorry for writing such a long comment this is just something I spend a lot of time thinking about. I'm a light skin Maori guy and I spent 5 years living in Australia, USA and Europe where I was treated as a foreigner but considered to be white/accepted by the majority. Then I came home and remembered what it's like to be seen as part of a different race and a minority.)

"People can be nice to your face but treat you poorly behind your back plus there's a lot of jealousy and hate towards people who carry themselves with confidence or success." It sounds like you've had a bad run in with the ol' Tall Poppy Syndrome. Yes, it can be brutal at times and lead to a lot of nastiness, but at the same time, is it really that hard to be humble? Culturally, New Zealanders despise people who talk themselves up and show off their success, so the simplest solution is to just be humble and not act like you're better than anyone else just because you have money or a prestigious career or whatever. It's not even hard to do because New Zealanders tend to avoid asking questions that provoke self-agrandising answers. Australians are exactly the same, but they're even more aggressive about how they respond to anyone flaunting their success. On the other hand, New Zealanders also value cordiality and harmony, so while you might see people as being fake, they're merely trying to keep treating you well despite hating you for whatever reason, most likely because you act in a way that comes off as superior. New Zealanders hate confrontation as much as they hate arrogance, so no matter how much they have an issue with someone, they will typically go to great lengths to avoid bringing it up in order to "keep the peace", especially if it's minor. You're entitled to see this as a bad thing if you like, but honestly it's a matter of perspective and it seems like yours has shifted radically in the time that you've been away such that perhaps New Zealand isn't the best fit for you anymore.

I moved here from the U.S 18 years ago and it was the BEST move I have ever made. This country is beautiful in all aspects, but most of all it's the people who have made me feel welcomed and still do. I haven't lost my American accent, and get asked all the time where I'm from. And, honestly, I might have only gotten a handful of people, rolling their eyes. But, you know what, that will happen anywhere. I don't focus on them. I love the Maori people and culture, they are sooo friendly. I LOVE meeting other American's who have moved here, it's really cool. I've been back to the states a few times and hand on my heart, I have said at the end of all my trips: I can't wait to get back home (NZ).😍 Oh and the men, mmm mm mm don't get me started on them.😁🤎💜💙💚💛🧡❤

Easy system, we approach if you seem approachable, and keep away if you look like trouble. 🇦🇺🤔 Hope this helped, Just in case some people have high hopes.

If your interested and have some time and want to, look up the channel, IT'S A DRAMA, they are a British whanau and they mostly talk about Aotearoa NZ, even though you have done a lot of vidz to do with Aotearoa, this might or may help...Many Americans think that way because of what has been with you most of your life, which I call, The Great Wall, check out their vid, cause they do have vids that feature a couple from the USA, speaking on their mindset about their home country and comparing it to NZ life, as they have experienced 1st hand. Take care and be safe..

Here in NZ we will address you as an American and not your colour. I’ve always found it strange how people in America say their Black, white or Latino. If someone addresses a person on their colour here that’s considered rude or racist. We do not choose our race so we shouldn’t punish someone for something out of their control .

We Kiwi’s don’t feel the need to prove ourselves to anyone. Americans on the other hand are constantly thirsting for attention and want to be in front of a camera. Bad shit happens everywhere. I'm from NZ bad shit happens in my country but it's rare but it happens. When it does happen, the Nation is shocked. bcoz we don't encounter violence that often. We don't care if you're Black, doesn't effect our lives so why would we even care? We don't! Don't give a fuck. You do you, i do me! We don't care what you do. But racism is in my country but not to the same extent as the US. We don't care what you are. Maybe your height, people will stare but who cares. Everyone loves a taller person. We're people, different cultures is always interesting to learn, see, experience. In NZ we do not get alot of African Americans, so we are always curious. After all, African Americans are dominating in all aspects of influencing. Sorry if I didn't make sense but you know what I mean and ya know I'm speaking the truth. I've been on the booze...cut me some slack man....😆😆😆😆

Bro 11:00 no offence but thats n***@ mindset, blacks out to get me mentality. New Zealand and australia is different. We have a code of honour. Rugby is our base. Our foundations. No armour, no helmets. We wont hate on u for being knocked out in a fight, we will respect u for fighting. Most wont stomp u. We will let u get up. We are of warrior culture. Our natives/polynesians still have culture. Still proud. Our nations still have pride.

Bro it's not the fact that people are being nice because you are different it's because alot of people here in NZ are raised with morals, respect, kindness and love. We are just like you, if you disrespect us don't expect us to not to retaliate. We do however let you know if you are not liked be sure to take heed of that situation. Because thing can become very uncomfortable. Speaking for myself as I am Maori our people were treated the same way as your people as far back as our great of greats(grandparents). Anything different from white was classed as coloured so we are like you African Americans but we have a heart and now that time has moved on,time heals all pain. So if you want to learn about NZ quit the jibber jabber get off the computer and come and experience in real life of meeting New Zealanders you will see for yourself fake from real. So mihi atu Kia koe e hoa, Nau Mai, Haere Mai. Anyone and everyone welcome.

Our country feels very young to the troubles of the world. We have racism, but to a smaller degree to most countries as to our age. We have gangs, but it's illegal to carry one in general - again due to our countries age. example USA have older laws and reasons to carry weapons. Brown people or their relatives hate racism and hate to show it to people they meet - but in general Most New Zealanders feel the same as well. White folk, Brownies and foreigners. In places like down town cities, this is more obvious that people do not care who you are. When you live in small suburbs of cities or in smaller towns and only stay in their areas - they tend to develop mental closure to the outside world.

Aroha to your experiences where you are. We have policies that racial, prejudice comments actions are not tolerated here it's bullying. Reality, it still does unfortunately but we don't tolerate it. I am Māori/tangata whenua who has experienced some type of bullying but have learnt some strategies not to give it any mana. However, everyone has a story and its theirs to own. If they exert that type of action they've obviously had a very sad life story.

I get you, I'm not sure nice is the right word. I'd say kiwi's don't go out way of their way to be crazy nice to strangers but at the same time, I don't go round trying to be a dick either. I generally just mind my own business but if we're in the same room together I'll be polite, break the ice and if you're cool I'll keep talking. I think it's more that you start at neutral, rather than starting at a stereotype and then you go off the vibe of their body language. To be fair, I look at people a lot in the supermarket tho and it's usually coz I can't reach the top shelf. At 6.5 you can be sure I'll be looking to you for help! and I usually don't ask it's more of a pause and wait - are you going to offer to be nice and help me - and then a big smile and thanx when you do. To be fair most people do help me, so maybe I'm wrong and we are just nice.

It's like that tiktok of that dad that just got his child McDonald's. For people here in Aotearoa, that's so weird to just get one child McDonald's. You either get all the kids something or nothing at all. Doesn't matter if they're not your kids. We don't eat in front of kids, that's such a wrong thing to do in Polynesian culture.

Some people obviously wont but the majority are pretty cool! And getting it straight! Australia is way racist compared to New Zealand! Here we are genuinely interested in good people not colour!
