In this review, suitably attired, we go for a drive out in the Kent countryside to test a wonderful 2020 Suzuki Ignis 1.2 SZ-T SHVS and see how practical it is, what it is like to drive and what it is like to own. Be prepared for more in-jokes for fans of certain long-running spy film franchise (as usual), references to Peter Serafinowicz's seminal spoof science series Look Around You, relief about a normal handbrake, a mild hybrid system, full LED headlamps, references to the Planet Auto RU-vid channel, a made up Japanese word, too much information about the Suzuki SC100 Whizzkid, lots of callbacks to a certain MG3 review, doors reminiscent of a 1991 Rover 216, a colourful reversing camera and generally little of any consequence at all. Nothing untoward, then...
Matt's review of this car from the furiousdriving RU-vid channel: • 2020 Suzuki Ignis SVT ...

Now that’s funky, inside and out - it’s great to see this vehicle in detail, lots of shots too.

It looks funky and drives well enough. The rear space is amazing for its size. Access is really good and it should stand out in a car park. Main thing is, Suzukis don't break. Lovely.

Yes, I thought that you may enjoy it! This was filmed just before the first lockdown, and was an absolute pleasure to drive. The suspension was quite soft, and so the handling wasn't as incisive as an MG3, but it was still a lot of fun. Access was indeed very good and these do appear to have been quite reliable so far.

A very welcome addition to the Tweed Jacket review series! A very intriguing car, one of my current favourites and at the moment (March 2020) Suzuki have reduced the price by ₤1,000 so the SZ-T starts at only ₤13,749 - great value. Thanks for another terrific review Joseph.

Yes, absolutely, I got Mr Richardson to list the prices on the screen as I couldn't remember them off hand. It most certainly was a very welcome addition to the series, very grateful for the opportunity to drive it last week. Hoping to get more Suzukis on the channel as well if I can!

@@lloydvehicleconsulting As you know, I'm a man of very modest tastes. My choice at the moment for a new car would be between the Ignis, Swift, Mazda 2 and MG3. So a Tweed Jacket review of the Swift would be great!

@@stanleyleopard6799, well, I also like to exercise self control in my automotive budget as you know, so I couldn't agree more. All those cars you have mentioned are pretty good, I must admit. Would very much like to review a Suzuki Swift, I will have to see what we can do.

I recently bought one of these as I mainly do town and city driving and I’m surprised at how economical it is. Parking is also a breeze, brilliant little car that should have been named the Suzuki Tardis as it’s so roomy inside.

Thanks very much indeed for watching the video! Yes, I really enjoyed driving this little car. It brought a real smile to my face. With the now standard hybrid powertrain on manual models is swift enough for town use and yet is ridiculously economical. It is also spacious and flexible for its size and also doesn't take itself too seriously. Glad you are enjoying yours!

The Ignis is a lovely design with a very practical interior layout. You did seem to enjoy the driving dynamics Sir. There is a sort of Sandy Beige colour available that compliments the black alloy wheels perfectly.
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting Год назад
Yes sir, I know the colour your mean. The car did lean quite a bit into the corners, but I think that is part of the fun. It is quite practical considering its size, not surprised Suzuki still sell it!

What a fun car, its the sort of thing that puts joy back into motoring by putting a smile on your face when you drive it! I would still like an SZ5 with AllGrip, although a Jimny would pip it to the post when I handed over my credit card!
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 4 года назад
Yes, got to hide that credit card after having spent time with these little Suzukis to prevent impromptu purchases! I would probably also like a few extra features, and so would go for an SZ-5. Certainly would help those fuel bills. Such a pleasant and easy car to drive, as well as navigate around town, and with all the features most people would need. Thanks again for filming this superb review!

Love the styling, if they did a plug in hybrid with 4x4 I'd be tempted. Totally put off by the missing temperature guage, it would take nothing for suzuki to have added that. Thanks for the video as I have a much better understanding of the ignis range, the suzuki website left me totally confused! Still think I'm going to hold out for the new Jimny if and when the settle to a sensible price.
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 4 года назад
Ah, Mr Phillips, I thought that there going to enjoy the video! Well, you never know what will happen next, but this is a superb car already. Sadly, the Jimny is probably going off sale in this country soon due to those pesky average fleet CO2 emissions that I mentioned, so it may be wise to purchase the new model sooner rather than later, if you can.... Glad you enjoyed the video!

Great review Joseph. I think these cars are good value if you are in the market for a small city car and don't need to carry large items around, great fuel economy as well. I can't imagine too many secret agents using an Ignis but who knows?????
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 4 года назад
Well, sir, the Suzuki Ignis has full approval from the secret agent community due to its ability to hold the secret mission documents properly. It is indeed wonderful for someone who mainly uses it to get round a city, but it is perfectly decent for longer journeys too. Mr Richardson and I both approve as lots of others it would seem too...

I currently have a 2012 70 HP Volkswagen Up! How does this little Ignis compare to the Up!?....less refined?...both have tons of character!
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 4 года назад
Yes, I have driven both a Skoda Citigo and a Seat Mii, both mechanically identical to an Up! They were the 60 bhp versions. The Ignis feels much, much lighter on its feet and a lot faster. The Volkswagen Group cars probably feel a bit more solid in the interior, but the Ignis has more standard equipment and a little bit more room in the back. The boot is about the same size, depending on the type of Ignis chosen, but the lip is probably a bit less pronounced.

@@lloydvehicleconsulting Thank you very much for the feedback. Just looking for something cheap and cheerful (and economical) to replace my Up! This could definitely fit the bill...I have always been attracted to quirky, unique cars with a lot of character- used to own several Citroen 2CV's and Dyanes back in the day. Just fyi, there is a newer version of the Ignis now for 2020- at least in Europe. Initially the only difference I can spot from watching a few vids on here is a newly designed front grill. May be a good opportunity to grab a bargain on the older model!
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 4 года назад
No problem at all! Yes, the facelifted model (which probably will be the 2021 Ignis by the time that it arrives) has not turned up in this country yet, and I don't know when this will be given the current situation, but the powertrain at least will probably be much the same. I would also look at the MG3 if you are shopping in this part of the market and want something fun to drive. If you search for "Tweed Jacket Reviews" and 2019 MG3 on the channel, you should find my review of that as well. I prefer the MG3 to an Up, personally, and owned a 2014 model (which also appeared a lot on the channel quite a lot) for over three years. Hope that helps, I also do love little quirky cars and both this and an MG3 are both very quirky indeed!

You could get the documents for two secret missions in there.
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 4 года назад
Not quite, sadly, the one cluster of documents just about fitted, so I don't think that it would take two. Plenty of cars don't even allow that.

Great review once again but sorry the Ignis looks a little too basic for me, especially when you can step up to an i20 or Fabia for less than the £13k Suzuki are asking.
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 4 года назад
Thanks very much indeed! That is a very interesting point. I think that Suzuki are aware of this themselves. As I mentioned in the review, the Swift starts cheaper than the Ignis and then it goes higher towards the top end. The top specification MG3 is also slightly cheaper than a mid specification Ignis. It just depends what you want, really, both the ones you mentioned are very good cars.

@@haitch04, I would try an MG3 in that case, if you can live with the firm ride. Having owned one for over three years and having had the new model for a week last year, I can confirm that they are brilliant, if you can live with the firmer than usual suspension, the average fuel economy and the lack of a turbocharger or hybrid assistance. Other than that, they have a standard seven year warranty and are generally brilliant! Lots of former Rover owners (like me) seem to love them too.

@@lloydvehicleconsulting Having owned a number of Rovers i.e 600, 400 and 2 Rover 75's not to mention a beautiful 1950's Rover P4 "cyclops" back in the day, I have always been interested to see what the Chinese have done to the MG brand. Must try one sometime and see. Many mixed opinions in the motoring press.
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 4 года назад
@@haitch04, I am on my seventh Rover and second R8 216 at the moment! I am also considering getting a 75 at some point. I owned a 600 last year too, at the same time as an MG3. The MG3 was a 2014 model (lots and lots of videos of it on the channel) and we owned it for over three years and 30,000 miles. It was an excellent car, and the 2019 model I tested last year was even better in most respects. Feel free to have a look at those two episodes of Tweed Jacket Reviews, but having had extensive experience of all models from MG post 2011 (apart from the MG6, but I have driven two in the past), I can safely say that the criticism is largely unjustified.

Gosh, I don't really know. It would be impossible to say for sure without driving a non-mild hybrid and the mild hybrid back to back, and seeing if they felt any different, but that would not really be easy to measure in any empirical sense.
