Little to none...just call or text (maybe). Unfortunately, it will only get worse. The ones whose parents allow limited access to social media, will be ridiculed and bullied, especially by their peers on social media. It's a sad, sad world we live in.

It begins with parents. My husband and I had many serious talks with our now 18 year old daughter about posting online. My husband works in tech security and emphasized that these pics never go away, even if you delete. It can affect college applications and getting hired….it can haunt you forever. She got the message. AI is what is currently freaking me out. Your face can be added to ANY image. If a person cannot post a regular picture without somebody taking their face and creating disturbing images, does social media have a future?

I have an 11 year old daughter and it is honestly so hard to keep all these apps away. We have bans across all social media, but things still get through. Many tic toc videos are available within RU-vid shorts, there's chat functions in Roblox! How can we teach our kids to respect their bodies when things like only fans exist, these girls making 100s of 1000s for "dancing" and writing it off as being confident and loving their body...it's a really hard balance of trying to teach them the right way and then becoming the enemy because they are the only kid at the school without a tic toc account. We recently moved to Kangaroo Island, remote, and honestly it's like going back 20 years, no ipads at schools, weekend sports are the pillar of the community. It's a breath of fresh air. It's a crazy crazy world!

I just wanted to add as well - in response to the men's commenting etc - these young girls are presenting mature content, without the maturity to handle it. They are simply not aware of the dark side of these situations. I spoke with my daughter about these kinds of potential situatiins, and she hand on her heart could not comprehend why these people that were commenting were not her "real" friends and may have alterior motives...I do think everyone shares a little bit of responsibility, but ultimately (imo) it's the parents that need to be "the bad guys" in order to protect their kids.

Ex. if I was going to the park I would just tell my parents, leave and then come home before dinner (or whatever required family event we had that day- which I would already know about). I've got a 14-year-old niece and her parents banned TikTok and most other social media for her, and I know she was unhappy about it, but I have never agreed with my brother as much as when he and his wife made that decision. She was still exposed to all of it enough that, at 12, she told me she wanted plastic surgery (she wanted to look more like the K-pop stars)! I'm a teenage girl the pressure to look "sexy" is intense, I was made fun of for wearing oversize clothing on a casual clothes day (baggy clothes are popular, I think, but my clothes were apparently 'unfashionable') like I'm young and I don't want to have to worry abt fashion and looking "hot and attractive" before I reach 18. Whenever I've told my friends about my parents and how they don't let me use social media like TT they always call my parents "overprotective" or "really strict" but I just know that they're keeping me safe (never thought I'd prove my mum right) .

Childhood is so precious and it’s unfortunate to see these young girls letting social media pressure them into looking older than they actually are. I know…every teenager wants to feel mature and all but that doesn’t change their age. They are still minors and minors need more protection from dangerous adults. @R.James.

No the reason why boys don't engage in such degen behavior is because they get taught what accountability and responsibility are from the day they are born and what the punishments are for degen behavior. Girls however are not, in fact they applauded constantly and applaud eachother for it. They even get awarded for it in short term. But the punishment comes much later, but by then they don't know why it is and how it came to be (Not able to find a good man or be happy in a relationship). So of course they blame men for it, not themselves which is all cycling back to accountability. If you're a man and dare to criticize them on their degen? You are a toxic man! That is toxic masculinity! You are trying to control wmn! HOW DARE YOU! That is harassment. Women are victims of men! Bodily autonomy? Schrodingers feminists are at the same time an empowered go-getter-queen-who-dont-need-no-man-and-can-do-anything victim-of-the-patriarchy, and depending on the situation she picks which of the two benefits her the most. Take TokkieTok/social media out of the equation. Even before it they behaved like this, but it was less wide spread. Remember MTV and those reality programs. Social media is definitely a catalyst.

Honestly, these social media CEO hearings are strange to me. I think it's the parents' responsibility to check what their children are up to online not the corporations. If you consider social media a digital public space privately held, it's comparable to a mall. Would you let them go there by themselves in a lingerie outfit?
@limitlessbianca

I quite agree. It’s still 90% the parents’ responsibilities. However, the rest 10%, I think social media’s age restriction need to be increased to maybe 16. It’s “just” a few years different but that few years is quite crucial too. Plus with the ai and algorithm technology, would be amazing if the social media companies could implement “better” censoring.

I agree in part, but even with radio and television, we regulated how those modes of communication could behave towards kids. We just take that for granted since most of us weren't alive when those debates were being had. Teen depression, anxiety, self-harm has risen in kind with the prevalence of social media. When nefarious practices were levied against kids of generations past, our lawmakers did their jobs. Now, they just grandstand at the CEOs instead of getting a legislation passed, and they even acknowledge that it's the power of lobbyists. We won't be able to just transpose the FCC's regulations to protect kids onto social media because it's structurally so different, but we literally could not be doing less than we are right now. This unmitigated social experiment we've allowed to go on for over a decade and a half is going to be looked at as a massive failing in a century's time (if we can get our act together).

I am a millennial and my mother used to tell me when I was a teenager, 'enjoy being young. Enjoy being a CHILD. You are going to be this young for only a short time but you will be an adult until you are old and grey. Don't rush it, enjoy it!' So glad I listened to her! I didn't date in highschool, never went to any wild parties, never tried smoking and alcohol. I dressed BEAUTIFULLY without showing any boobs. I literally played outside, skipping and playing netball with my other young peers until I was a senior in highschool, even when I was about to graduate 😂😂😂 I had so much fun! Now, as I have become a full grown woman, 31 and engaged, most people don't believe how old I am. Keeping young at heart and mind has kept me fresh. It saved my innocence and protected me from adult trauma which makes kids nowadays look old. I am so thankful! 😊

Some of these parents are really oblivious or straight up conscious of what their kid's do, and they don't care. I've witnessed firsthand with my cousin the consequences of this type of parenting. My cousin basically got pregnant before finishing high school, in which she was seen as an unruly student and got into an abusive relationship. I now have a cousin's daughter who behaves pretty much the same as this girls, she's only 14, but she looks like a 18 year old at least by the way she dresses and presents herself. Even her grandma, who is very liberated by the way, believes that her daughter is committing mistakes in her parenting, giving the girl so much independence without consequences.

I still watch these essays and many others about the state of the younger generations as I find humans fascinating in general. This may come across as a very cynical view, but I personally don't have much hope. It's a bit like the obesity epidemic across the world - the Western world has become so reliant on ultra-processed food (and social media) that I can't see a way back to a simpler, healthier life. This is the ugly reality of capitalism unless we have a societal epiphany, nothing will change; I'm not putting my money on a societal shift away from Social Media any time soon - not while we still think it's acceptable for billionaires to exist. I am an educator. School boards are moving towards banning mobile phones in the classrooms in Canada. We have seen a rise in mental health and diminishing attention spans. It begins in the home with proper monitoring. However, not everything can be controlled. Parent(s)/guardian(s) are often not aware of everything their children are doing, so I want to cut them a little slack. Yet, we are finding that this behaviour is becoming a "societal norm", which makes it even harder on a parent/guardian. I report every child under 18 on social media, regardless of the post. No child should be shown on any platform. It is extremely dangerous. In the past children were seen as mini adults. After, the government implemented education programs and coined the term, " age of innocence," to get them out of factories and into school. Now, the government will have to step in again because children are being hypersexualized and families are running out of tools to keep them off the internet. We as a society need to let governments know that we need stronger regulations because we are warping the brains of our children.

In the uk a lot of primary schools and secondary schools have limitations on phone use or complete phone bans. Unfortunately it doesn’t change anything because it doesn’t take long after school or before to use such social media, they just become sneakier. Young peoples ability to post on the app should’ve been nipped in the bud, including now, it’s scary how much worse it gets month after month, instead of tiktok cracking down on it, they are letting it run rampant. Parents obviously have responsibility, not all of these kids have present parents or family, and for those that do but are just not well equipped enough, won’t be able to instantly understand how to enforce digital safety, so with the parents education of such, TikTok can at least crack down in the mean time. TT has so many resources for parents even for general parental controls & internet safety but it’s useless if they can’t enforce their TOS

I am in my mid/late teens and this has largely impacted my mental health and, I know, has also affected many other girls my age. The feeling that our self worth is only based on our appearance is extremely degrading and damaging. It makes us feel invaluable and unwanted if we do not succome to the pressures that weigh on us from society and social media. This issue is extremely disturbing and, in all honesty, it is so perverted the way that young girls and CHILDREN are being sexualised in the media. I mean, innocence at its finest, compared to todays world. My son is 18 and thank god his only interest in TT and IG, and such are regarding video games and 'would you rather' and reaction type videos. I go up to his school and see the girls walking around the halls in clothes that OBVIOUSLY violate the dress code that I KNOW they have, but apparently means nothing (which is on the school for not enforcing it). But super short shorts, super tight tops, tube/crop tops etc. Fine for the beach or lake but not for SCHOOL (or other public places). We live in a VERY rural area. Not in a big city, or even medium city. Our middle and high school for the ENTIRE COUNTY is in ONE BUILDING! My son and his friends (both male and female) that come over and hang out, talk about these people and not in a good way. These are good, nice kids, and wouldnt say anything to their faces, but definitely behind closed doors they do. And im sure others do as well, at least the ones with some modicum of common sense whose parents are even halfway involved in their lives (on and offline). I always say im the worlds most 'okayest mom' but .... maybe im just a bit better than that.

when I was 13 all I cared about was fluffy pens that had bunny ears. The clothes I wore must have been in tatters, because my mum also told me to 'go change. You look like a pauper factory kid.' Kids these days blow my mind.

I'd say they are very unaware, problem is we have this postive parenting issue where programs like the ppp state not to intrude on your childs privacy, I'm my childs parent not some stranger my childs privacy is my business and I will intrude and have thorough conversations with my child about issues they are going through not just leave them to fend for themselves nievely and alone with zero life experience

Thank you for raising your voice on this type of problem and highlighting the contradictions of these social networks. I think the solution must come from everywhere, parents via education, school via conferences or coaching but above all through social medias themselves! I really believe that a simple system is feasible to protect the youngest but social medias do not want to put it in place because yes, they would lose millions of users and therefore millions of dollars in the process! Today many countries use an authentication system via birth number to connect to our taxes or our bank etc... setting up the same connection system would already make it possible to limit access to these platforms to adults only. But again, the solution exists, but the social medias will never align with this system to protect the youngest because it means losing a lot of money.

Preeeeach!! 🙌 This is a discussion I’ve had with many moms, quite organically, as a professional piercer. Little ones coming in to get their ears pierced and somehow I, as a parent of now adults, am understood to be someone the moms can talk to about the pressures their kids are under to physically and materialistically conform. At age 8. 6. Age *5* the skincare and makeup questions are flowing in when coming home after school. Madness!!!

Its SO hypocritical for someone who calls themself an "influencer" to say they don't wanna be a "role model" What DOES influence mean??? .... The issue is, they want all the glory but none of the responsibilities or consequences.

RU-vid live had two small teens with their number listed, and as off as it could come across that I called, I meant to "scare them straight". I'm like, I could be a 43 year old man. That kid was like, are you a 43 year old man? I was shook. I asked if I sounded like one. She said no. My heart 🙄 I told her I'm a 35 year old woman and I could be anyone. I asked her not to post her number. I hope she took it to heart. Kids need to stay safe, where are your parents?!? The internet is way too vast. I'm childfree by choice, so my opinions are a mixed bag.

Since I'm a teenager, I could tell the age of the last girl. It is disturbing, how I could tell her age so quickly, because it only shows how many girls dress/act/look this way nowadays. Many, many, many girls I know are this way since the age of 12 and I'm hopeless. Overall there are groups of teens that I consider normal, but are considered "weird" by most of the others. A thing that I also find pretty important is just the fact, that me and my friends have been called childish since 5th grade, even though we were all just children, many not even preteens. Beeing a child is not accepted anymore and those who want to be themselves, suffer from bullying. That's just the sad truth since 2018 (or earlier). Have a good day!

In the UK as soon they get into 5 th grade (11 years old) they are already introduced to the 53 sexual genders, they do not study history, history art, or grammar but they study all about sex, gender, positions, what ever the teacher wants with the parents knowing.

Somehow this reminds me of the scene in mean girls when the little sister lifted her shirt while watching grown women do the same on tv, only this is WAAAAY WORSE because we can not switch the channel.😢 never thought i would say this, but i am so grateful that my parents were super strict while growing up. At 32 I now see their prospective. Indeed how do we get back?

I agree with you - its disgraceful and detrimental to these young girls in ways they do not understand at their young ages. If I had a daughter (I have teen sons) I wouldn't allow TikTok. The parents that encourage this for monetisation - also disgraceful.

What you’re doing and also The Dads Challenge Podcast calling out these people who exploit their children, Keep Doing What You’re Doing. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😳😳😳😳

As an experiment my cousin (male in his late 30s) downloaded tiktok and scrolled to see where the algorithm would take him. It took 4 minutes of scrolling for tiktok to start showing him videos of teenage girls like the ones you are showing and many many LIVE ones where you would see very young girls sleeping, doing homework, eating lunch and the comments would be all from pervs sayings stuff like "take off your clothes". Then the girls start engaging with the comments and flirty to the camera etc. He was horrified and deleted it straight after. I, female late 30s, did it in parallel to him and only got makeup videos (I didn't look for) and cooking stuff.

Considering we've had kids tracksuits with the word juicy emblazoned across the arse of em in huge, glittery letters specifically designed to be eye catching (doesn't matter your intention putting it on, the large glittery letters are there to draw the eye to your arse, it's not even a voluntary thing, people catch the sparkly glitter in their peripheral and look, that's literally why they're designed that way) since I was a kid (I'm 33) things have been headed this way for a while, it would help if when people point out that sort of thing is a bit weird to dress a child in, the people who dress the kids in it didn't say "well that just the you're creepy" and maybe looked at the companies pushing this kind of shit as the creepy ones over the ones saying this doesn't seem right. Edit: Just out of interest, how does someone call themselves an "influencer" but then shy away from being a role model... surely if you have any brain cells rattling round in your skull you'd realise that role model is baked into the term "influencer" because the word suggests that you "influence" people, as in there is a good chance that the people you "influence" will to some degree emulate your actions, which by extension makes you a role model whether you like it or not, gotta take the rough with the smooth, can't just pick and choose.

A very fascinating video, this brings back painful memories which i have been enduring. My relationship of 5 years ended 3 months ago. The love of my life decided to leave me, I really love her so much I can’t stop thinking about her, I’ve tried my very best to get her back in my life, but to no avail, I’m frustrated, I don’t see my life with anyone else. I’ve done my best to get rid of the thoughts of her, but I can’t, I don’t know why I’m saying this here, I really miss her and just can’t stop thinking about her
