Unedited, ca. 1937 silent footage of train travel on the East Tennessee & Western North Carolina Railroad, or Tweetsie Railroad, and a football game between State Teachers College, Johnson City (now East Tennessee State University) and Appalachian State Teachers College (now Appalachian State University) in Boone, North Carolina. Footage includes countryside along the tracks, plays from the game, marching band performances, passengers on the return trip, Shulls Mill post office, train personnel, and Grandfather Mountain.

For anyone that is interested, the family posing at 5:17- 5:21 is the Shulls Mills post office. hard to read from the hand painted sign above the door.

@sillywesties Also at 5:46 I believe it it shows Grandfather Mtn. From the elevation it looks as if the highway was built on the old rail bed.

The highway 105 is on majority of the roadbed between Boone and Linville. From my observation, the first view of it on the 5 minute area it looks to be the western part of Foscoe nearin Jestes cemetary

The view of Grandfather Mountain starting at about 5:50 is very cool.

So where does that switch lead to at 4:28?? That's about 500 feet from the now blowing Rock/ Hwy 321 and Rivers street intersection. Is that possibly the coal dump siding? Looks way to far down the track where the boiler house for ASU would have been! Interesting video!

I looked for Fred Kirby when I went to Tweetsie but he wasn't there. There was a train robbery.
