Greg, much appreciated as always! I always loved this song. I rarely use a pick, however, it works well with this song, especially the walking bass lines.
Greg, thanks as always for your hard work. This will be a fun addition to my 60's rock repertoire. You're right about playing with a pick. It's been way more commonly used than some people would have you believe, especially throughout the different rock subgenres. So many important groups have had a bassist using a pick part or all of the time, let alone session players like Carole Kaye, Joe Osborn, Anthony Jackson, et al. You can get radically different sounds with different picks, let alone picks versus fingers.
I find there's also a "feel" you can get with a pick that you can't with your fingers. I especially notice it when ever there's alternate picking involved. It's easy with a pick but means twice the work with your fingers! Thanks for the comment :)
I just recently learned that for a few years, in the beginning of “the doors” career, they did NOT have a bass player. Ray Manzarak played the bass lines on the keyboard.😎
