Twenty years later I revisit the car audio world to see what’s going on. Prices have gone and everyone has gone sub crazy. Here I am just replacing my stock speakers and amp. Oh I did go a little crazy myself. I upgraded my one 8” sub to a 10”. Watch out. I’m 43 though and like to enjoy all the spectrums of audio. I’m sure if I was a teenager I’d be right there with Em’.
Im in the same boat you are on that one...I put a couple of JL audios for the 4x6s in the front for the high end and two 6x9 Sound Ordinances in the back with a 500 watt pioneer amp and kenwood head unit..hooked to em with no subs...people were shocked about the sound quality and bass from that cheap set up shaking my rear view mirrors.....let alone only the 6×9s were producing that loud of bass. I guess they're expecting that I had something more.
Yeah man, I'm 46 and I got out of the stereo scene back in 2002 or so. I just recently upgraded my head unit and got one of those powered 8" woofers. I went on a 3000 mile trip and popped the 8 and one of the door speakers (I'm impressed that the new head units put out so much real power). When I got home I ripped my car apart and installed new 6.5 three ways on four corners and a Rockford 500 with a Punch 12 for bass. It's sounds GREAT even at low volume. Now I'm shopping for sound deadening material. I don't care what it sounds like outside. I want it to sound great for ME.
Still got my Car Audio & Electronics magazines =D I remember when I wanted 2 Cerwin Vega XL18s (Strokers out of reach) or 3 JL Audio 12W6s. Blew my MTX2300 not too long ago. Now I'm trying to see if the dual 8 JL Microsub will do in my minivan. Got myself a 10W7 HO box for my daily. We'll see how it goes. Once a basshead, always a basshead. Got DJ Magic Mike to thank for that and then Techmaster PEB. Now Bassotronics. Can't forget Bass 305 and Eurobass Express. Gonna try to setup dual 18s in the house for my home theater. Finally going to make 10Hz a reality.
I did a system using Dev Tech's BP-20 drivers running off of a MQ430 bridged to two channels and it was one of the best sounding systems I have ever built. Incredibly accurate.
Those 6.5s make a lot of flex. I feel like they'd make an amazing tapped horn build. Or maybe a passive radiator setup for some stereo speakers with a mid and tweeter.
Bernie Boland built a van with I believe 36 6.5" woofers back in the day for his new company he started after leaving Orion back in the late 80's early 90's. It sounded pretty awesome but in Tempe back then it didn't compare to the other demo vehicles. Just a little old man car audio history for ya. :)
Love the setup. Certainly different. No wonder you need all that power, the woofers' sensitivity is incredibly low at 81.6dB/watt 😅. That means around 5 times more power needed compared to an average subwoofer for the same output. What is the useable frequency range??
It was impressive for some 6.5s but then again it does have 20 of them and 7000w. And yeah might wanna tighten those body panels up some and add some lock tight.
Judging by the flexing, its very loud.... but loud is easy. I want to know what the bandwidth is, and how deep it can play ? That's what's important for a musical system.
+Stillmin Stilldoit man your comment is the stupidest in the thread, all he said was the port bigger than the sub, not that there was something wrong with it.. you make assumptions like a woman
What's crazy is he's got $4,000 worth of speakers in the back of that car he could have put 2-15s in that car and blew the windows out of it but it's pretty cool though to see all of those six and a half come to life
Man who ever hit that thumbs down button must be slow because holy shiznit those BADBOYS WER GOING HAMHOCKS yo but like dude said to each his own all i kno is i bump those daily that's a 💯 tight setup 👍🏼👍🏼✌🏼💪🏼🔈💪🏼🔉💪🏼🔊
