Tyler explains what a Kitchen Sinks means to him, kinda. Tyler and Josh for KIIS 95.7. May 10th 2013. Join us over on reddit.com/r/twentyonepilots for more good stuff.
+thatguywithaweirdname I know, he said sorry a couple times. Idk what it is but I think some people are more prone to feeling guilt and being super conscious, which I think has a lot to do with why people struggle with depression. I just hope he knows that what he says and does helps a lot of people and that he is very loved, even though it may seem like people don't want to talk about it.
+Christiana Valery I have it, but my mom has it worse and it can be emotionally draining when she doesn't even try. That's why Tyler's words stick with me, "I'll live for you, and that's hard to do..."
Whenever I am anxious, or stressed, or facing something too big for my mind to handle, I come to this clip about kitchen sink. I could recite it to you. That's how many times I've watched it. This clip honestly just comforts me, the way that Tyler explains you can tell he had to come out of a hard experience in life and make the best of it. He turned it into music that we use to fight our own battles. This clip is my "kitchen sink". I come here when I need comfort, and it never fails to help me out. It means so much more to me each time I watch it and I use it as a reminder to keep going. |-/
4:36 when Tyler did this “clubbing” thing with his arms and josh tried to copy him but decided against it in the middle of the action that is so adorable
It sort of killed my heart when at 3:42 when the interviewer asks what their favourite Celine Dion song is, Josh starts answering, and then Tyler says something like, that is a dumb question because of whatever, and Josh is like, yeah. Sorry. And sort of shrugs and goes kind of silent and I'm like NOOOOOOOO MY BEAN. Like, I know what it feels like to suddenly feel really anxiously awkward.
05:52 Tyler was mocking the interviewer and then at 05:59 he figures what he's doing and says ''sorry'' and the interviewer's like ''yeah.'' Gosh, my smol bean
WHEN HE SAID SORRY AFTER HE SAID ALL OF THAT, I SCREAMED AT THE VIDEO. "DONT BE SORRY YOU PRECIOUS HUMAN BEING. WHAT YOU JUST SAID CHANGED MY ENTIRE LIFE."
*Interviewer* : "What does a kitchen sink mean to you? This is from an audiance member" *Tyler* : "Okay, just to, bring everyone in... There was a song that I wrote, it's called Kitchen Sink and there's a line that says _a kitchen sink to you is not a kitchen sink to me_ . I feel like, our generation of people is struggling with something. Struggles with, suicide and depression, and not that I clame to be any sort of professional opinion on these topics, BUT. What I found out is those two issues are really centered around the idea of purpose. What's the purpose? What's the point? We have a lot of questions, big questions, right? And we don't have the answers to those questions and that can really, it can really discourage us, as young kids wanting answers to those questions. So I found out, how can I create purpose for myself? Cause I feel like if I had purpose, I'd be able to conquere these two things. And I found through art, that you can create the beginning of purpose, well not all purpose because that's such a huge thing, but the beginning of perpose can be found by creating something that only you understand. For example, in your darkest hour when you're trying to figure out wether out it's worth it to stay alive or just to give up, if you have something that you've created and you know you're the only person on this earth that can explain that thing, then that can be the thing that you can hold on to and that can be the thing that can help you get through that moment of..your darkest hour as I like to call it. So for me, something happened in that kitchen sink that was very, that was awesome and it was good it was emotional it was great uhm.. but the point is, I use that moment to help me get through my tough times because, the point is I'm not gonna tell you what happened in that kitchen sink. A kitchen sink to you is not a kitchen sink to me. Because I like to use that moment as... you know what, if I explain what exactly happened here then everyone knows and it kinda looses its ability to help me, in justify staying around. So, you don't know what a kitchen sink is to me. But it has to do with purpose and helps me." *Interviewer* : .."wow." *Tyler* : "Yeah sorry." I'm in love with Tyler's mind. There are just no words to describe how amazing Ty and Josh are.
Also that interviewer had no idea what to do after that kitchen sink explanation. If it were me I would just stare at him and quietly whisper "god bless you"
Josh: "Man, my thoughts are stupid" Me: But you have those thoughts so often you ought to replace that slot with what you must bought cus Tyler stole you car radio and now you just sit in silence
actually it's better for you to express in that way, talk while you're making gestures with ur hands helps a lot. it's only what i think but that's why he is always shaking his head and moving all the time also with the hands, dancing, screaming on the music videos (expressing) what he doesn't says with his words.
I love how it got all deep and emotional and then "if you could go on tour with any band who would you choose." (I think that was the question he asked)
11:18 real quick I use to work at Taco Bell and that's truth. We cut the quesadillas after putting them in wrapper and they don't cut all the way so sors Tyler for the inconvenience
+Dylan Stilinski It was probably more that he didn't know how to respond to that. It was an extremely deep and personal answer that he probably wasn't expecting, so he didn't know what else to say.
omg i just clicked on the Video and the Moment Tyler said "or HIS" i already had to stop the Vid again to stare at the wall and say THANK YOU (a few will understand)
(Sorry the reply is late) I think Margarita Shlyakhetko was thankful for Tyler trying to be inclusive with pronouns? Like not assuming the person's gender. Sorry if I'm incorrect.
it's just me, coming here for like the 100th time to watch tyler's rant about taco bell. really tho, his articulation mixed with the tone of his soft voice... i can listen to him talk all day
Wow. This is interesting. I didnt think the kitchen sink was referring to a literal sink. I interpreted it as stemming from the expression "everything but the kitchen sink". Bc when you think about it its such a weird item to b the sort of "thing left over" when everything else is gone. Which connects both to being alone and not rly having a use (the expression is usually invoked when talking about using a multitude of items twds some end, everything but "the kitchen sink"). Its kinda cool how tht just happens to line up then
Josh doesn't like having microphones because he gets anxiety from talking in front of people. He would rather have someone else hold the microphone than for him to hold one himself. It's not that the people don't like him, he just doesn't like using microphones.
I got so confused bc this interview was uploaded just recently but i didnt see it was from 2013 and i almost had a heart attack bc tyler wasnt wearing his wedding ring fuck
I hate how they didn't give Josh a microphone at first and then he had to take the one from the interviewer. They should be prepared better. If they know that there are gonna be three people they should place three mics
I love how the when the interviewer asked for their favorite tour memory and then said "or non-memory" do you think these little beans go out getting hammered every night??? lmao
