Here so - lemme try to analyze the music video in a lyric comment section lmao. In the MV, we have a main character named Clancy. He lives in this fictional city called Dema. Dema is controlled by nine (evil) bishops who cannot see yellow. They try to keep EVERYONE in Dema. Clancy wants to get out, and finds help in a rebel group called the Banditos. They help him escape by making him wear a yellow jumpsuit, because, like said above, the bishops cannot see yellow. Well, I think the bishops stand for different mental illnesses. And Dema is depression. And how come the bishops cannot see yellow? Because yellow is usually the color associated with happiness/joy, etc. The line, 'we'll win but not everyone will get out' may be referencing that when escaping depression (or any mental illness), not everyone makes it. I think everyone's figured this out, but I wanna keep my thoughts in a comment. :/

So I watched this Twenty Øne Piløts interview and they wouldn't explain what "Dema" is in the new album and what the significants of yellow is but I've seen some possible theory videos and tbh it makes sense..... If u don't understand what "Dema" is then I'll explain "Dema"= "Demons" basically the entire album is about battling ur demons and (if u've seen the music videos) red signifies ur demons and yellow signifies support from family and friends while battling ur demons the entire album is a metaphor for mental health and people who are struggling with battling their demons So the phrase "Dema don't control us" is basically saying "demons don't control us" I thought that was a really cool thing they did for this album it's really awesome ❤ and one of the reasons why I love Twenty Øne Piløts ❤

This reminds me of the Danger Days album by MCR in the sense that they seem to have created their own world and story, we don't have enough to understand it yet but I think people are making big stretches when they're trying to connect it to Blurryface. NICO DI ANGELO IS ALL I THOUGHT ABOUT HELP LOL

So, if you listen to the low parts in reverse, theres hidden messages. At the beginning its Josh Dun (drummer) just speaking. He says "we are banditos. You will leave Dema and head true east. We reject vialism." Banditos is a song in the album and refers to the rebellion dressed in green and yellow, lead by Josh Dun in the music video who then finds the oblivious Tyler and wakes him up with a hand shake. Vialism is derived from the word "vial" which is a glass container, and vialism is being trapped in the vial, or rather bottling your emotions, which the banditos reject. Dema is the institution run by Nico and the Niners who worship artificial light as they are color blind to yellow. They're pale in the skin, wear veils, and red robes, the theme color of the previous album Blurryface. Red represents Tyler's "rebel red" while he strays from god in his depression. Right after the beginning of the song when Josh talks in reverse, Tyler says "east is up, fearless when I hear this on the low" trying to key people into paying attention to the low voice and its secret messages. East is up stands for happiness. You're up when you're happy. The opposite of up is down, which would be east, and that's where Tyler is... Tyler references Dema in the normal song many times stating that they can't "control us" and how we'd escape, but some of us won't. Just before the rap sequence (after Josh awakens Tyler in the music video with the handshake) theres another low part, which is actually just Tyler pitched down and in reverse repeating "fire, so high, nico and the niners" about 3 times I think. The same thing can be found at the end of the song. This may all seem very ominous, but it's a sorta sneaky way of telling people that the only way you can cope with your depression is to rebel against the institution and head east, away from it, to freedom. While Blurryface was about depression, Trench is about peoples expectations and breaking free from depression. A couple more things strictly related to the music video: in the beginning it shows the Dema facility, drab and overcast with clouds. There are 9 towers in the middle, representing nico and the niners, who are the priests of depression and the institution as well as worshipping the artificial. Blurryface, the depression album features "rebel red" and depression, signature traits of nico and the nine. Coincidentally, the album cover of blurryface has 9 circles, just like the towers. These towers are also related to religious towers of old used to punish and sacrifice people by letting them be devoured by carrion birds... the vulture outside Tyler's window, the hungry fans who feed off of his depression. He then puts a yellow (dandelion I think) into a box with others, covering the sacred color that nico and the niners can't see, and which they try to replace with the white fluorescent lights later. Tyler then begins packing his red beanie and white sunglasses from Blurryface songs, his literal emotional baggage. He then attempts to escape after Josh contacted him, as he states at the beginning of the song, and walks outside where he encounters the banditos who arrived via the tunnels under Dema. He looks at Josh blankly not recognizing him, but as I said before, Josh wakes him up with their secret handshake. They then perform a concert after Tyler dons his jumpsuit of green and yellow (which has a symbolic reference and is mentioned in many of their songs). They literally shake the foundation of Dema, momentarily snapping the people out of their trance while Nico and the nine try to indoctrinate them. The nine then search for the banditos but find a boy and girl, dressed in all white, holding Tyler's green and yellow jumpsuit next to Josh's drum kit. This scene means a lot as the jumpsuit is Tyler's emotional armor that keeps him stable. He left it there with the drums for someone else to find hope in their music. In the background you can also see his backpack of emotional baggage sitting on a statue, as he left it behind him. Tyler shed his armor, letting his walls down, but as Josh leads him away from Dema, members of the Banditos strap yellow tape in the same pattern as his jumpsuit onto his shirt, restoring his armor and building him back up. This is my interpretation of the song's lyrics, hidden messages, and video. I think it's pretty solid and stays true to other songs in the album, mainly the other two songs of the trilogy of dema, as well as chlorine which mentions rebel red and is about his content and his audience. This trilogy is a little weird and hard to interpret when put together as the song Levitate has a video continuing off of Nico and the Niners, but shows them taking him back at the end while two Banditos watch and do nothing. Blurryface was dressed up as a red cloaked bishop in Jumpsuit. Red=Anger/control/Fear. The bishops trying to control. But Tyler AKA Clancy escaped Dema ( the tower of silence). Throughout the album Trench is tells Tyler's journey fighting Blurryface and bishops to be free and find peace in his mind, in the character of Clancy. I think Nico and the niners help create a diversion (a fire) to distract the bishops to escape Dema. As Dema dont control us...🎶💛
