Proud owner of Heritage special, it's a lifetime speaker, using a Leema acoustics tucana ii anniversary edition amp, the combo is amazing, this quality amp can really drive these speakers, enjoying my music.

The HS needs a really big amp to shine in the lower regions. But with a moderate amp like the Hegel H390 you need a sub to create the complete spectrum from 25-25000 Hz

Thank you for your review! I have heard Heritage Special and found it clear sounding and very very musical with a nice punch in the bass. I love them and the only drawback for me is the price :) Did you test those speakers with Marantz Model 30 Amp? Do you think this one is powerful enough to push those speakers? It is a class D amp and there should not be any issues with a current, but anyway I believe it is better to pair Special 40 and Heritage Special with amps from their league. Am I wrong?

I have the HS speakers and had to change my amp from a Class D NAD C298 to a Class A/B BAT VK-225SE, output into 4 ohms is about the same at 300 watts per channel for the 2 amps but current and quality of watts in the midrange and bass especially is night and day. My advice is buy the highest current Class A/B amp you can afford if you are buying the HS speakers.

Just got back from auctioning the Dynaudio Heritage Specials. I don't have audiophile terms down but everything sounded wonderful except the bass. Seemed bloated to me...like they tried 2 hard to make a bookshelfs bass sound like bass youd get in a floor stander. Because the top end and mid range sounded so good...im going to give it another go around with differnt tracks but wished initial impression was a little better. That bloated bass just distracted me from all the positives.

Hi guys, a little late to the party but some info re : The Cowboy Junkies + The Trinity Session......as the name suggests it was recorded in the Trinity church - i think maybe Toronto (?).....a single Calrec Soundfield omnidirectional mic plugged into an unspecified DAT recorder and the band played live.....the several seconds of ambience before the opening vocal is telling! It was a regular demo disc for audiophiles back in the day ;-)

I’ve got both - SF are better at imaging and soundstage and quantity of bass - they really kick - but the HS are richer, less aggressive in the top end and more musically engaging speakers. I personally prefer the HS, although both are excellent!

Great review/comparo. I had owned the Special Forty for over a year. They do some amazing things. But compared to some other speakers, even at similar price, they don’t have the details and microdynamics of others. Sounds like the Heritage do this better (which they should considering their price). I suspect better crossover parts in the Heritage also improve the transparency, in addition to the better drivers.

@@Eugene737 of what I have owned, the ATC SCM19, the Totem Fire V1, the Graham Audio Chartwell LS6 have better micros. Even the Burchardt Audio S400 which are a fair bit cheaper in my opinion have a bit more detail and microdynamics than the Special Fortys did. But the Special Fortys have a musicality, midrange beauty, sweet highs and a bass punch that most of those can’t match, so you gain in other ways.

@@rog86 hey there, my preference is for the Buchardts. I had all 3 at the same time and sold the others, so there you go. :). I just find them a more balanced sounding speaker with deeper low end and, full, detailed mids and smooth treble. Less analytical and forward than the ATC and less of an over emphasized mid bass bump than with the Special Forty.

Which one would you prefer - the focal sopra 1 or heritge. Trying to decide, but cant hear the heritage at home.

The focal edges it out for bass but it does cost considerably more. It’s also a way better built speaker. But if you want to save a few grand the heritage isn’t that far behind for sound.

I would like to see a floorstander in the same league from dynaudio as I am not impressed by the sound of their current line of floorstander namely ( contour, evoke)

I tested both and like the S40 better. The HS has bass problem. The S40 is more dynamic with panch and bass that the HS lack

Everything is ok but the price of Heritage is a "porn". I`m a owner of Dynaudio Crafft (+/- 1500 euro). This speaker after a few modification of crossover (not expensive) are Heritage killer. Dynaudio always had a problem, they used a poor quality crossover and now that they have given a Mudorf Supreme (for 200 dollars) they want $ 6,000 for bookshelf speakers.
