Michael Jackson and Prince were not even in the same lane. MJ was pop. He really was never all that edgy nor could he really play any instruments. Prince was something above and beyond. He did what he wanted to do and refused to settle. He played all the instruments on his first album at age 18. The man was unmatched; writer, dancer, performer and sexy as hell. He was constantly pushing himself to do new and different things.
Strange that you would assert that. Mj played a shit ton of instruments. I'm not sure why you think he didn't.He played most of the music on his albums.
@@heatherstites1030 Michael Jackson could neither read or write music. His playing of instruments was rudimentary at best. He was not very proficient at it even though he is credited. he would sing each note to a musician who would then write it out properly. Prince on the other hand was a musical genius and no one can dispute it. you are comparing an entertainer with a other worldly musical prodigy.
@@heatherstites1030 First time ever I heard MJ played most of music on his albums, I just checked my copy of Off The Wall, he was just credited for percussion on few tracks..
I'm going through the comments and for the life of me cannot figure out why this comparison is being made. These are both legends in their own rights! Prince was Prince and Michael was Michael. Both were exceptionally talented and left an impact on the music industry like none other. Please stop comparing the two.
Much love Rosie Gaines. What an incredible Vocalist she is! Honestly of all the women that Prince has ever sung with I always felt Rosie and Sheila were the most compatible to Princes voice. thought I read somewhere that Rosie is a multi instrumentalist in her own right.
The sad part is Rosie's health is failing and she apparently didn't walk away from her music career with much money, so she's struggling...at least the last I heard that was the case.
True. However this rendition is definitely NOT Rosie's best rendition. I would also have to say that I believe the BEST rendition of this song by ANYONE is that of SINEAD O'CONNOR.
If you are starting to like Prince, then you must watch the music video for “When Doves Cry”, and not the edited version, the full extended version. That song is amazing!! 💜
You’re young, so I forgive the Micheal Jackson comparison. BUT, Prince was so far beyond anything and anyone else that the comparison is wrong. Definitely check out Sinead O’Connor doing this song. Amazing, hauntingly beautiful.
MJ was fine in his own right but he is no Prince! Prince was a master at his craft, Prince was once in a lifetime, Prince stands alone because no one else compares to him. I never understood why people compared MJ and Prince - it’s like comparing a perfectly cooked steak to scrambled eggs; they’re both food, yes, but they are totally not the same! 💜
That’s like comparing apples to oranges. They’re both great in their own right. I had MJ in my childhood and Prince in my teens. The best of both worlds.
So true, im 20 so im new to Prince, i got into him because i heard get off on the radio one day, blew my mind been a fan of his for 2 years now and im so mad i never got see him live, personally i respect mj but mj was too pop for me.
Or comparing the Stones to the Beatles! Both icons, both some of best music ever recorded! I myself I’m a stones girl! But I can still appreciate a great Beatles tune! That is why I LOVE music there is something for everyone !!😊❤️
Purple Rain performed at the Super Bowl. They called Prince up worried about all of the electronics outside, Prince said “Can you make it rain harder”? Worth a watch in the actual rain! You’ll like Purple Rain more.
Speaking of Batman, did you know Prince did the soundtrack to the first modern Batman movie with Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson? It's an amazing soundtrack too!
You brothers need to check out Prince and Lenny Kravitz from this same concert "American Women", it'll rock your socks off and Prince kills it on the guitar FOR REAL.
You should check out Erotic City by Prince. His catalog is killer and he never gave a bad performance and he never wrote a song that you didn't like. By the way MJ started trying to look like Prince not the other way around. Prince's sound has been unique since day one. I love me some Prince, I could give you lots of fun facts about Prince.
That is true MJ did try so hard to look like Prince and he named his own son Prince ( a little weird ) but why should MJ not be like the rest of us mere humans and not fall under the spell of the enchanting one, the mesmerizing one.... PRINCE 💜💜💜
I've had the privilege to see this man perform live. Cathy is a BEAST on the sax! Prince.....Prince Prince Prince...that was the best concert I've been to...ever! I lost my voice that entire weekend! Legendary!
@Any One Michael might’ve had a better career, but Prince was definitely the most talented. Mastered the guitar, amazing bassist, great drummer and keyboardist, and one of the most amazing and versatile voices in the business. He also made his first album completely by himself playing all instruments and vocals.
sigh, wish people would recommend other prince songs/music videos instead of the same songs/music videos, purple rain and when dove cry😑.............................sometimes i wonder if people suggesting and thumbs upping the same songs/music are even prince fans and just have listened to two or three songs of his. so much more to prince then purple rain and when doves cry............................
Please find the whole "Purple Rain" soundtrack and listen to it immediately. "The Beautiful Ones" is just -- you have to hear it. And be sure to sing those falsetto wails with him at the end. : )
Beautiful Ones - orgasmic. Listening to song at the Apollo Theater impromptu Prince memorial gathering, on 21 April, 2016, was almost like hearing it for the first time. My eyes almost rolled back in my head; as I looked around, people younger and older were jaw- dropped lol.
Prince was his own person. He fought to keep his own music. I can’t recall the whole story. He helped other artists and wrote songs for them. He was an excellent guitar player. He does Minnesota proud, and that’s my state.
Check out Prince playing guitar at George Harrison's induction, playing the last solo for While My Guitar Gently Weeps. He stole the entire show while onstage with literal rock legends that were honoring one of the biggest legends, a former Beatle.
Yes! That is one of the very best performances from Prince! And he didn't even rehearse with them! He just came on, did his thing, and got off the stage!
Y'all keep comparing him to MJ... however... Prince, played EVERY instrument that went into his music. He did it all... Sang, played and danced.... No need to do a reaction but watch his super bowl performance. Prince was the best!
Prince doesn't sound like MJ. He can sing circles around MJ. His vocal range was beyond. They were both famous at the same time but, no, not that similar. Prince was a prodigy.
Yes people often mistake popularity and success with talent. Michael needed a whole team of people around him to do his thing, Prince could do it all he just needed a sound engineer when he was recording.
I’m a die hard Prince fan. I do think that Prince in a class all of his own, though I would have to say that I think in terms of singing he and Michael Jackson were about equal in their Formidable talent and vocal range
How I miss this man. It was one of those moments where you remember exactly where you were when that horrible news came across the radio of his passing. Nothing compares 2 you Prince, nor ever will.
Can't really say who's better. They both are so good in their own way. MJ had a bigger impact on music, but in a narrower scope. He was the undisputed King of Pop. Prince wasn't a king, but he was Prince of Everything. Pop, rock, soul, R&B, funk, dude could do it all. I prefer Prince myself, but I can't deny the musical genius of MJ either.
Prince is a legend. I was lucky to get to see him twice in London. If I'm after some sexy time with the wife I put on Scandalous by Prince. Quite a seductive song.
Still hard to believe that he's gone. Thank God for giving us such a talented soul. I've seen him twice in concert and he always gave his all and sound better in concert.
@@kmoo3830 it is a cover, he didn't give it to her. He gave it to The Family, one of the Groups he formed. They had the first commercial release. Sinead's version is excellent though.
So happy to see two young brothas discovering Prince--and a live performance at that! It's December so, if you do another Prince reaction this month, I might suggest you look up his 1984 B-side classic, "Another Lonely Christmas." It's not well known outside of the fan community but is unlike any other Christmas song you will hear. No video to it though. Remember that the vast majority of songs he recorded he also wrote the music and lyrics for. The lyrics are often (always, in my opinion) worth the read.
Purple Rain wasn't about his dad dying that was part of the movie his real dad didn't die til 2001. Prince hands down way more talented. Do Ballad Of Dorothy Parker from Jay Leno. Prince put out 39 studio albums to MJs 6
Michael Jackson was an OUTSTANDING Song Writer and performer. But Prince WAS ALL OF IT. OUTSTANDING Performer Song Writer Musician And MORE... PRINCE WAS ALL WRAPPED UP IN ONE BRO!
Love y’all sharing. I almost forgot that he made this song. Keep them coming. It’s just nice seeing younger generation giving props to those who paved the way.
Prince was so gifted ❤️🎵🎶 ~ check out how many instruments he could play , and it was all by ear . I worked with Woman that went to High School with Prince
Thanx for reacting to prince.. I got a few Prince videos that I would like to suggest, and get your reaction to. I have on a few occasions, watched each of these on repeat. Prince .. DMSR.. Live in Detroit, 2004, Musicology Tour, and/Or Prince ... 1+1+1=3.. Live at the Aladdin, Las Vegas, 12/15/2002 and/or Prince... Motherless Child (I’m dying to hear a reaction of Prince performing Live, that’s not the Super Bowl) Thanx
Recently the video from Prince's ahead-of-its-time international simulcast concert from 1985 was released by his estate to stream, temporarily. It seems to be gone now. But if you can find it you will LOVE it. Seeing Prince dance, sing, and kill it in guitar for hours (in heels and coats) is unlike any other concert experience you could ever have. See if there is still a copy of it floating around somewhere. You won't be disappointed. The things that man could do when he was working the stage...DAMN. His band was phenomenal, too.
Prince and Michael Jackson were low key rivals at one time in the mainstream but they were very different musically. Prince was always pushing boundaries. Check out the Prince songs “Kiss,” “Erotic City,” “Cinnamon Girl” and “P****y Control.” Also, Bat Dance from the second original Batman movie is more of a dance mix but a classic! SO many decades of great music!
YESSSSSSS! Those songs get u UP ON YO FEET! Same for 1999 (gonna party like it's!). Purple Rain and Nothing compares 2 u are ok, but listen to these 3 and his earlier albums. PRINCE = PURE GENIUS 😆😆😆
You know, I have been sitting here thinking MJ or Prince and I am putting way too much energy into this. I don’t think you can compare anyone to MJ. Period. But as a musician..Prince is phenomenal. I think he’s the best guitar player since Hendrix. He plays multiple instruments. Princes style changed the world. I can’t choose.
Prince wrote this song and gave it to Sinead O'Conner. Her version is pretty damn good and was a huge hit for her. If we're voting between Michael Jackson and Prince then Prince gets my vote by a landslide. Musician/Composer/Singer/Songwriter. Sure MJ could dance but what's that got to do with music? "Purple Rain" the album is one of the greatest albums ever produced. This is my opinion. Check the whole thing out and let me know what you think. Not a weak song on it. Peace, brothers.
Prince killed it! Please do “Adore”, “How Come You Don’t Call me Anymore”, “Darling Nikki”, and “Soft and Wet”😉💜 Michael Jackson was good, but he was no Prince😉
The media tried to compare the 2 at the height of their careers (Thriller & Purple Rain). It can't be done. I liked MJ and Off The Wall is a classic. However, my musical soul is a Prince fan. His musical talent appeared limitless. I looked forward to every live performance because you knew you'd hear a beautiful remix of some of his classics. His vocals, the range, amazing! His ability to play more than 27 instruments and write music, unmatched. Please listen to more Prince. You won't love it all, but you will appreciate every note. I still miss him. 💜
Prince has a whole Catalog of Awesome! 😎 Great songwriter, singer, performer, this particular song was written by Prince but was given to Sinead O’ Connor to perform.
I love you two. Prince was a musical genius. He could play every instrument and he was an incredible guitarist. He wrote his own music and many songs for others. Please listen to Chris Cornell's version of Nothing Compares to You.
Sinead O'Connor's version has so much more emotion and feeling, Yes Prince wrote it and put his own spin on it, but Sinead took this and took it so much higher.
