Using a twin needle to hem knits can be a good, budget-friendly alternative to a coverstitch machine, but how do you use it? Demonstrating the installation, threading, and sewing with a twin needle as well as discussing the different types. We'll also be hemming on knit fabric, with one sample using wash away Wonder Tape on one sample. Does it help stabilize the fabric?

I've been watching everything I can about twin needles, and it's getting to sound a lot simpler than I thought. You gave a lot of great hints. Thanks for posting.

Thank you. Twin needles have scared me forever. This video helped me shorten my first dress. Now I’m on to many more! Sew simple! Also, I used heavy starch to help mark the cut line when shortening a maxi dress to a knee length dress. You can just spray the starch on and let it dry, no need to iron, just get it stiff to make marking and cutting easier. That was the hardest part on my first dress hemming experience.

Hi, I really liked your video!!! You explain perfectly well, how to use the twin needles. I just bought mine at Hobby Lobby and they are pretty expensive, but as long as they work, I will keep on using them. Thank you very much for your instruction video. God Bless You all. 🙏☺️

I recently started using a twin needle. I have used my regular presser foot so far. So far no problems.

Hi, the skipped stitch could only happen either because the twin needle was too wide for your machine, or, if you use your machine a lot and it's not new, you may need to rephase it or sharpen the crochet hook. A tip to avoid the tunneling without a stabilizer, and also to give a nicer look to the zigzag at the back, is to significantly reduce the lower tension

I am short-waisted, live in a small town, and the local store stopped carrying petite clothes. All of my t-shirts look ridiculously long on me! I have a very old Bernette 200. I'm going to be checking the owner's book to see what it says about double needles. Thank you for this video!

I appreciated this video very much- - today was the first day I ever Used a twin needle because a friend of mine asked me to do a couple of her knit dresses I saw the video of how the hem looks and I was really pleased at what I saw. I went out and bought one and the video I watched said to try it with different stitches but I did forget to change the foot so I broke it within an hour-/ so I have to go to Joannes and get another one but I watched your video and with that tape that you used at least I was able to see the difference and now I have to get the tape to so thank you very much for your very informative video-/

Oh Jen, here we go again! You always seem to be in tune with what I'm working on,gosh,how do you do that? lol I am working on some slip covers for a rocking chair, they have ties on the sides of the cushions to keep them from slipping, I just completed the top cushion and naturally when I sewed my ties I went down the folded side and then up the other side. I didn't even think about My twin needle,but as I took a break, I saw that You were there and Gee Whiz, You know I'm going to make the bottom cushion ties with the twin needle, SNAP!! Thanks 😊 again for always being there for Me ❤️ You're a Doll! Have a great weekend and I'll be looking forward to another great tip from You 😊! XX Marie-Wisconsin

I have been watching as many videos as I can on twin needles for a coverstitch look. Maybe someday I can buy a Coverstitch machine, they are just too expensive right now. Thank you so much! I did buy something like wonder tape online already. I have one size 2 twin needle that came with my sewing machine. But I ordered a 4.

Also may be worth trying Mettler Seraflex thread. They sent me some and I really like it! It's still not exactly the same as a coverstitch machine but the thread stretches, but still behaves more like standard thread.
@davidpowell9965
@davidpowell9965 Год назад
I tried using a twin needle with some thicker topstitching thread on some jeans, and the machine found it a bit of a struggle, but recently I tried instead to use standard thread with the triple/stretch stitch (the one that stitches forward, back, and forward). It sewed much more smoothly, and produced the same bold stitches as you'd get with thicker thread. Leaves a pretty unusual reverse side.

Thanks for publishing this. I’m having trouble with the fabric between the twin stitches on the outside of the garment puckering up. It’s like my bobbin thread is too tight and it’s pulling it in the back. I can’t figure out how to remedy that. Any suggestions?
@nataliewarner3624
@nataliewarner3624 4 года назад
So I had similar issues when using my twin needle. The bobbin thread pulled so much, that it was no longer zigzagged on the back and didn't actuall stretch. I played around a little and ended changing the tension on my upper thread to 7ish which helped a little. I still got a bit of a pucker between the two rows of stitches on the top of my fabric, but I did get the stretchy zigzag stitch on the back. Yay! I'm going to buy some wonder tape and see if that takes care of the puckering issue better. That should, I think, help with the bobbin thread pulling also. I hope. lol

Thanks for a great video -very helpful I have tried it and my issue is increased tunneling. How do I avoid that or correct it? I was not using a stretch- twin needle. This was on a heavy knit T-shirt. I haven’t used wonder tape yet. I would greatly appreciate your input. Thanks again

Hi Jen, Thanks for the very informative video. For some reason, my thread gets twisted in the right needle and then caught in the bobbin. It makes me think the needle eye is not large enough. But they seem to all be the same eye size on the Schmetz twin needles. Any thoughts on why this may be happening?

You can not use a twin needle unless you have a stitch plate with the wider decorative stitch hole. You may be able to purchase a separate plate for your specific machine, fingers crossed for you, it does look incredible.
