At the Delhi launch of her new book #PyjamasAreForgiving author and columnist Twinkle Khanna speaks to Barkha Dutt in a wide ranging conversation on Feminism, Politics, Books And Botox in a special edition of Townhall.
Just switched on to this interview minutes after watching Rajesh Khanna ji's "Aap Ki Kasam". My eyes were wet after having seen Rajesh ji saving his reel life daughter from a pandal fire . Flash forward to now......How happy Rajesh ji would have been to see the huge success of his real life daughter, the stunningly beautiful Twinkle, achieving such popularity in a literary field. I was a huge fan of this very handsome and gifted Superstar, and now I'm a fan of Twinkle's columns written so intelligently with a nice vein of humour throughout. And she's done it on her own, with not a ghost of nepotism here ! My heartfelt wishes to Twinkle, a member of the best looking family in India after Indira Gandhi's !
Common haters! She is an individual who is intelligent and witty! Regardless of her famous husband and parents. I like how unapologetically she talks about issues. You don’t have to condemn people who come from privileged background. She chose to be a working women over getting overshadowed by her family’s stardom. And how come you can’t see that she is witty! And it is manifesting in her writing. **people- they complain when sb does sth or does nothing**

Her sense of humour is Awesome..she is pretty as well and the best thing is that she accepts that she was a joker more then a good actress she couldn't act she has no filter and today she has become this writer with her own talent so we should appreciate that whatever Akshay kumar does shouldn't go on this women!

Madam the analogy that a 'doctor want their kid to be doctor ' and it's often used to draw parallel in the narrative of justification of nepotism....I find it so strange because ....1) I am the only doctor in my family and I became that cause I was a topper all along and I cracked PMT entrance with flying colours and not because my parent were doctor...2) I don't want my kid to be a doctor or anything....because they have the freedom of choice for their life.

eclecticme7 Coz she is honest!! And doing some good work by revealing the truth that no other heroines have guts to do!! And shilpa and raveena also achieved a lot but on a different platform! They have also suffered a lot but dint have guts to reveal anything!

@ranchordas1 Akshay told Raveena to choose between him and her career. She rightly chose her career after he had cheated on her constantly. He then went after Shilpa and then settled for Twinkle because she was a flop actress. They married based on a bet that if her movie (Mela) fails, then they will get married. So, actually, the foundation of their marriage is based on Twinkle's failure! She started interior designing and writing funny books because she had to justify her existence somehow beyond marrying a wealthy playboy! If she was so interested in interior designing, why didn't she pursue that before marriage and stand on her own two feet? She did nothing on her own steam. Now, this couple talks about women empowerment. Height of hypocrisy! Twinkle shouldn't have married him after the way he treated her peers, but I guess she needed to secure her future after being the biggest flop actress of 90s!
@ranchordas1 she got film offers because of nepotism, and she herself admits that she had no interest in acting. So, she did take opportunities away from more deserving actresses. Producers took her in their films because of her lineage, that's all. The playboy only married her for his own selfish motives (father's name, status, wealth, bollywood connections). They both used each other, both are money minded gold diggers. Why be kind to a person who hurt and betrayed many women (Aksahy). Twinkle shouldn't have married him either, but like I said, she had her own selfish motives.
Stop making rich more rich..first movies now books..lets not make someone who got everything on platter more rich when she is trying to tell us how intelligent she is when she is not...i an tell better books that will benefit you, the country and person who wrote it ad deserves too...these rich people will take your money and wont do anything in return for you...

the woman is well spoken but her constant need to use flowery language, which is lovely at times but starts taking away from the story . people who want to improve their language skills are the only ones apart from the page 3 friends who she shies away from , since she is "bored of her mithai shop" - are the only ones who would really read her books.

none of what she says makes sense. All these females coming for interviews and talking in high english to an Indian audience. These shows get aired in villages. How can people understand? I can't understand the Indian Govt. changing all English city names to Indian names -wasting money and time on unnecessary stuff. But everyone whether they can speak english or not want to talk in English.
Lo Shama Well, there is nothing wrong to have an interview in English for a book which you would think have a majority of readers who understand this English and also I guess to target the audience outside India...but on other hand what you said is right...it is imperative that people are taught English...it will broaden their scope of learning, give them huge exposure...even simply by watching shows from BBC ABC etc...it is essential...changing the name of cities wont help with emancipation of humanity...not at all...so the policy makers need to review the whole thing, provided they have those insights as you and I as commoners possess!
Because it's the need if the hour we are not as successful and developed as china Japan or Russia to survive on Hindi ..we have to speak English to top it English is no more a foreign language to us ..it's one of our officially recognized languages
