Astartes, to the rank and file citizens of the imperium are thought of as the emperors angels. Its very rare for them to be seen by ordinary citizens. Theyre mostly legends to these people.
@@doublemreacts there are thousands of Space Marine Chapters, a Space Marine Chapter consists of usually 1000 space Marines (sometimes more.) so there are roughly a few million Space Marines. The Imperium of Mankind roughly holds more or less millions of worlds around the galaxy as well, each with billions (possibly trillions of citizens at worst) so if there are millions of Planets with Billions of Worlds but only millions of Space Marines, there's probably 1 space marine for every billion people. (don't quote me on that, this is a very rough estimate) and Space Marines only deploy where they are truly needed, they aren't the main army, they're special forces. the main army is the Astra Militarum (The Imperial Guard) which is trillions of normal humans working as planetary defense forces. Space Marines are sent to the Battlefronts where they would matter. so not only are Space Marines so Few compared to the population of the Imperium, they only go to battlefields. they don't scatter out by themselves they fight in Battlegroups.
I love the Salamanders, they are easily my favorite Space Marine chapter/Legion, I have been having a lot of fun painting up an army of them on my channel. And they have a genetic defect that gives them literal black skin and red eyes, an appearance that has ended many a battle before they had even begun.
You should definitely check out some more of the 40k universe, animations and lore videos. Salamander Space marine's have the unusual privilege of staying in regular contact with their families after becoming space marines. (Probably one of the reasons why they are often much friendlier to non-astartes, as they maintain a piece of their original lives.)
