Vehicular Combat games need more attention. It's sad how few games are in this genre.

More exposure to it would be the solution. Fort Nite is hot right now I think shooting games needs a break from the spotlight. Vehicular Combat should become the spotlight.

For me, Twisted Metal Small Brawl was actually the game that started my TM fanboyism. Why did I chose that game? because I loved RC cars as a kid so my parents bought me that for my birthday. I know people say it's the worst but it's still nostalgic to me.
@jennesis

What a great story and I can see how that game would've appealed to you. TM purists shitting on Small Brawl, 3 or 4 are cringe af, but it's refreshing to see that the opinion of the mass majority is more positive for those games. I feel TM2-worshippers only crap on everything else because Jaffe and the developers expressed such ire for it, so they wanna be part of the "cool boys" club vs admitting that those games were actually pretty fun and ones that they played more than once.

I actually had a simliar thing happen in my childhood. First TM game I played Was 4, only it was a demo from a PlayStation underground disc I got. Rented the game too and I enjoyed it. Iirc, in an interview, David Jaffe stated that the reason the FMV endings were cut was because of the ladies in the scenes. Apparently, some people on the team had moral issues with them, so if they wanted the team to continue working on the game, they had to cut the videos. Well, they could re-film them, but as the graphics would imply, Twisted Metal did not really have that much of a budget, so I'm guessing doing re-shoots would have been pretty much out of the question.

@@wallaceshawn-zk8iw Yeah, I was aware of them being based in Utah, and the kind of religious people that tend to live there. I don't think Jaffe called out Mormonism by name, but it seemed pretty clear that the objections were based in religious beliefs of some kind. I'd say that's a pretty distinct possibility, if it wasn't outright stated to be the reason. It's just been a little while since I watched the interview, so I'd need a refresher on some of the finer details.

I miss Twisted Metal so much. It was special for Sony. TM 1 never played, TM 2 first and godsend of the series so many memories. TM 3 & 4 I struggled to love but still played. Loved the maps more from those titles than the cars. TM Black thanks to the ESRB I missed out on playing it until Ps3. I see why people love it, but I didn't spend much time on it. I regret this, and glad its on Ps4 for $10. TM Head on YES PLEASE, it felt like a remake of TM2 but again so much fun I had both Ps2 and Psp ports. So many hours. Moscow was my map. TM PS3...What happen? Single player was sad .to the others. Online tho, when it worked, was amazing I remember the E3 reveal of Nuke and boy that was crazy but new to the series. Still, want ps3 remade or another new game in the series. Ty gaming pastime for the review of the series. I'm about to start my own on the series. I'll give your channel a shout out when I start.

If they make twisted metal they should talk about the Kane bloodline. The cab driver in TM1 is somehow related to Needles Kane aka Sweet tooth. But later on in TM Black, you learned that the cab drivers son is also related to Needles Kane aka Sweet Tooth. Roadkill, aka Marcus Kane, is known to be the real personality of sweet tooth. However, in TM Black, he’s taken under a different name. But, there is a reference when he said he had a family before being killed by Calypso. It’s a coincidence when they bring it up in 2012 Twisted Metal. Minion was 50/50 when it came to the relevance of his existence. In the original, minion was really a demon from hell according to TM2. In TM black, the biggest psychological twist is when you decode his messages as you continue to play as him. Although there is no ending of minion after TM2 (forget TM3), all we are left with is the fact this could be either an apocalyptic tournament or it’s all in someone’s head.

Twisted Metal was also on the PC with better framerate and graphics, also Singletrac also did Jet Moto and Jet Moto 2. And Jet Moto was on the PC too. But I don't know if Jet Moto 2 was released on the PC, info about Jet Moto 2: Tournament Edition Sony wanted the original game for the Greatest Hits re-release but the problem was they did not have the original master of the game so the creator put the original on the backup disk , but there is another version which of course it was the TE one that was sent to them but they did not want that they wanted the original copy of Jet Moto 2 but instead of the original they put the TE one on the Greatest Hits version.

Gaming Pastime I have a good question. Would you say the Twisted Metal series holds up with my reasoning? Usually a full game of Story mode in Twisted Metal will always talk around an hour minimum and and hour and a half max. Given that there are a wide variety of characters who all play differently and have their own strategies make these games hold up in terms of gameplay? There are a lot of games in this era that can be pretty much speedrunned in no time flat due to archaic and dated design, however these Twisted Metal games are still as fun and challenging as they were back in the day. So in my opinion while the visuals may be dated I think in terms of gameplay, difficulty and skill they hold up very well. What do you think of my take in this Twisted Metal competition?

The gameplay in 3 is still fun. But I loved that Small Brawl gave us another unique interpretation with creative design. But I don't say any game in this series is "Bad" I'd say at least, Every game has its moments of appeal and every game has its share of pain in the ass moments.

It's funny. The PS4 was the 90s revival era, countless fantastic remasters, remakes and sequels to games from the PS1/2 era. Add on top of that, the 8th gens incredible success with arena hero shooters that focused on characters and arena style action, throw in the relative success of vehicular combat games like Cross Out, and one has to wonder, just what the fuck the people in charge of the Twisted Metal IP were thinking NOT releasing ANYTHING on the PS4 8th generation. They're apparently coming up with a streaming series, and if they STILL don't release some kind of cross promotional material like a 2012 remaster then I just don't know what to say. Games like Medievil, Oddworld, and Destroy All Humans, even god damn Carmageddon, have all recieved quality revisits, far more obscure titles than Twisted Metal ever was. I totally agree with this. TM1 had the perfect blend of campy tone and crunchy graphics; then TM2 and Head On were too cartoony, TM3 and TM4 were WAY too cartoony, and Black and the PS3 ones were too grim and depressing (especially the one on the PS3 as Black at least had *some* happier endings and all). I never played Small Brawl but it most definitely looks to be in the cartoony territory.. As Arguably One of the Best, Long Time, Die Hard Player's in the World, since the very Beginning, i'm going to say this. I Absolutely Love the Vehicular Collision Detection in the First Two Twisted Metals. After that, the Collisions became Weak. They just don't have that Weight behind them when you Ram into an Opponent. I'll also Add that i'm too a Big Fan of Twisted Metal 4. Ironically, although i Favor Dark and Gritty, Twisted Metal Black just doesn't really do it for me. Something about it seems off. I Hate the Collision aspect, and it no longer feels Demolition Derby esque. I like 3 myself, used to hate it, but grew to appreciate and favor it more then black. Never did play head on or small brawl. But i do own TM for the ps3. Which, lets just say isn't exacly my cup of tea. They've seemed to take away the demolition derby collision feel out of twistd metal since 3 hit. Thats one thing i enjoyed about V8. Thats one major thing i keep going back to the original two. Now, as i said, i love 4, but it's a different love. The physics feel more goofy. There's no hit detection when it comes to ramming. It's just off. But i love how abstract and unusual it is for some reason. It keeps it's characteristic's and that i do enjoy. With 3, the vehicles would keep flipping, and ot annoyed the ever living hell out of me. But it's no longer such a huge issue as it once was, compared to black and how that game is. But if i had to choose, i rather tmb vs tmps3. They need to come out with a twisted metal that goes back to having that satisfying feel of colliding with vehicles, as well as a stronger create a vehicle customization selection. Just imagine how that will go. You can build an oversized manslaughter with axels giant wheels, if you really want to be OP. Possibly jump out and hijack an opponent? Optional. Interconnected levels maybe? Create a level. Choose different variants of vehicles. For example, twisted metal 3 sweet tooth versus twisted metal 4? Twisted metal 2 minion versus twisted metal blacks minion? (without the downsizing) Primevel versus Darktooth. And so on an so forth. Not sure how that will play out due to each game having different physics an such. But these are just some idea's. Maybe have characters fight one another. And level only bosses from the past able to be used to their full potential in any level of every twisted metal. Example, darktooth, stays as giant as he was, with all of his unique abilities like jumping, launching his giant head, and shooting huge richochet bombs, as well as his head being somehow playable also, and minion from the first twisted metal, both vehicles used in tm1 cyburbia level. You can even use tm1 limited 2 player levels. Or remix them, create something larger then life and unique or wild. Even tm3's special level weapon pick ups like the spaceship and egypts pyramid, and japans satellite dish weapons. You can choose which, or how many can be put in the level. The list goes on. Twisted Metal can make an enormous comeback. There's just so many idea's. And with the movie coming out soon, i feel a new game will debut too. Remember me, and takes some of these idea's into consideration. I am one of the series biggest fans, and hardcore players. Just waiting for a tournament to arise so i can join. Someday hopefully. I'm tired of seeing super smash brothers, and first person shooters in every event. It's time for a change for once. Bring out the original four twisted metal's. So we can really have some fun out here.

There is a black light at the end of the tunnel. Seeing lots of talk about twisted metal lately makes me think we might actually get one on ps4 or 5.

Twisted Metal was fun, even better playing splitscreen. If you like derby-style games, you should play FlatOut 2. While it doesn't has any weapons, it's a great game on his own.

very good review have always loved the series i frist played 3 & 4 and small brawl as a kid but later on in my teens checked out the frist and second there not too bad i have alot of respect for the series saddly i do agree tho i do hope there will be a new one but definitely TM1 is the definiteive game for the ps1 and was over shadowed but to me as well the game is what the ps1 should be it is what kicked off the ps1 eara so i gotta pay respects to the game with its original counterpart 😎👍

In twisted metal 2 it kind of sucks because sweet tooth and minion were only unlockable characters that dont get an area password and that is not fair

The graphics and gameplay are solid as hell, faster loading times due to simplified enviornments. The live-action Endings were terrible and it was wise to axe them though theyre funny to watch for fans

Twisted metal 3 and black are the best. 2 is ok but the music is just a loop and I prefer being able to knock opponents on their side and unload my ammo or ram the shit out of them and I like the bounciness of it all also. Not to mention the view disnatce and such.

Oy bruv, we need a reservoir dogs and warriors game review.

oh true, reservoir dogs was actually decent... i remember renting that thinking it would suck and that they would insult a great movie with a terrible licensed game... wound up being totally surprised. The warriors was almost an addition to the movie that did amazing amounts of fan service.

LOL I wish those cheesy endings was in the real game. I just hated that its just a wall of text for the endings of each character. I got this game late in 1997 and liked it better then Twisted Metal 2 which everyone loved. The music and the atmosphere looks more realistic and the details on the cars looked nice for a 1995 game.

Don’t listen to those yeah you start with this one because it’s the second best you will only be disappointed but if you look at it from a today’s standard yes you will be a little disappointed but still he is right nostalgia plays a little bit of the factor

I forgot about the cheesy live action video in this game. Haha. It's so great. This game is bare bones by comparison to later entries, but it is a good starting point. This game is a lot of fun, though. I played the crap out of it on the PSone

I was never a fan of the original one. I never play it more than a few levels and I get bored. In all fairness it's very old but the second one is so much more enjoyable.

I agree with you. I can't believe the genre is unpopular. Vehicular combat have to make a comeback. Many gamers are missing out. Twisted Metal coming back, but better than TM Black would be awesome. TM 2012 was disappointing due to lack of drivers. I wonder if you ever reviewed that game?.

Sup man, hey you should really try out this game called critical depth. It's also made by single trac and the first game they made after the departure Twisted Metal. The AI is even worse and that game only because they're all over the place under water
