The background dancers didn’t give a shit, Eliza, bless her heart, had too low of a voice for the roll, Washington’s voice gave up halfway during the the intermission, also too high for the actor. also they went out of their way to add a line about him not having faith earlier in the show (“i don’t need god right now”), so why would they cut a line that just further highlights that lack of faith? especially when they’re clearly trying to portray it as a central character flaw that he “overcomes” as part of the plot resolution edit: just realized they also kept the verse in its quiet uptown where hamilton talks about reconnecting with god, which ALSO references a previous lack of faith (“and i pray/that never used to happen before”). so the “no doubting god” rule apparently literally only applies to hurricane

Hamilton Hamburg Mention Hamilton Hamburg Mention HAMILTON HAMBURG MENTION Anyway some of my favorite parts of the translation are: "Uns vier fantastische Jungs" because GOD they sound like cringe 12-year-olds and it makes it so much better "Na gut" instead of "be true" PHILLIP SCHUYLER THAT'S YOUR DAUGHTER'S HAND IN MARRIAGE NOT YOUR WIFE ASKING YOU TO EMPTY THE DISHWASHER. "MACHT EINEN SPAZIERGANG" for take a walk which is accurate but the vibes are just so different. Also the 2 pott references within the first 15 minutes. Also just as an acting choice, in the "can we get back to politics" "please" scene Madison is trying not to cry instead of being annoyed after it's quiet uptown. What about you?

A translation that I really like a lot is “Ähm, Jein” instead of “Uhm, yes”, because it brings across the same thing but just a little more obvious. Yes means yes and you really have to emphasize it a certain way to make sure everyone knows that you do not necessarily mean what you’re saying. When you say Jein you just know that the person means “yes… but actually probably not”, you know? I actually love it so much when any Madison tries not to cry in the election of 1800 instead of just being annoyed by the whole drama made around Philip’s death. Also thy made John Laurens so much more of a feminist then they already is in the American Version (which I love but it’s also completely inaccurate) A translation that literally kills me every time is “Chaos und Todschlag sind nie eine Lösung, lasst nicht ab vom rechten Weg” because the line before that ends with “hart”. You could’ve easily rhymed those two by just saying “Pfad” instead of “Weg” and yet they chose not to. Also it’s kind of funny how they made them say “Everyone give it up for America’s favourite fighting Franceman” instead of translating the line or just leaving it the way it was. (Or maybe only Gino does that, I’m not sure) Also I’m still not sure what to think about “Wir haben auf dem Feld nen ziemlichen Run” “Einwand’rer, we get the Job done”. I think if you want to keep the Run and Done rhyme just not translate that one word in between the two either. And if you want to translate the word, translate it all. I tried to find a completely German translation and thought maybe they could’ve gone with “Wir haben auf dem Feld nen ziemlichen Lauf” “Einwand’rer, wir haben’s echt drauf”. It said the same thing and you don’t have to skip between two languages every two words. But seriously, I’m really happy with the translation and in a lot of places they did excellent jobs. Like for example with “Täglich schreibt der Tod zwischen den Zeilen in mein Tagebuch” and “Vögel die viel zwitschern stopft man aus” BTW, it really deserved a longer run than what it got. I really hope it one’s back one day.
