In his weekly clinical update, Dr. Griffin dives into West Nile virus in New Jersey, poliovirus vaccination campaign in Gaza and Afghanistan, California dengue virus infections, children dying from flu, mpox vaccination procurement and antiviral usage, flu circulation in US, before reviewing the recent statistics on SARS-CoV-2 infection, finding a new wasterwater dashboard, if the monovalent XBB.1.5 COVID-19 vaccine is effective against circulating SARS-CoV-2 isolates, the need for nasal mucosal IgA in response to SARS-CoV-2 infection, where to find PEMGARDA, does administration of molnupiravir reduce symptoms in the vaccinated, when to use convalescent plasma, how molnupiravir treatment leads to better outcomes 3 and 6 months after treatment, a reminder of how and when to use steroids to treat COVID-19, what do when healthcare workers succumb to SARS-CoV-2 infection, if vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 does protect against long COVID, and if those taking the anti-diabetic drug metformin have higher or lower incidences of long COVID.

I'm not that personally worried about covid at this point, but I just want to give love & respect to the lady who wants to know how to protect herself from covid while she serves as a poll worker. That actually brought a tear to my eye. If you're reading this, Linda, thank you for your service! 💙

FYI I'm 83 now. I have had flu vaccines every year in late September or early October every single year as long as it has been offered by my HMO. I have diabetes and asthma, high blood pressure and my age is a factor. This is a sample of one, but I do not get influenza. I go shopping every week at a busy grocery store and go to my local farmer's market that is quite busy Spring through Autumn. My family visits and my caregiver moves from home to home six days a week and has exposed me to covid which I did not get because I am throughly vaccinated for that too. I live in a huge complex of apartments and density for over a mile all around is very high so opportunities for infection are high too. When influenza has raged through our apartment complex I have not been infected. I am an advocate for vaccinations, not only because it works for me, but also because it will work for you. These days I mask at the grocery, but not at the outdoor farmer's market. I wash hands fairly often but not incessantly. I also keep current with all other vaccines. Why can't others be as diligent?

Asymptomatic
@helengarrett6378
@helengarrett6378 21 час назад
No, healthy. Probably not asymptomatic. Cautious and properly protected. My set and only case of Delta (probably) covid almost did me in. My blood oxygen dropped into the upper 80's, especially when I had to use the bathroom or eat. It lasted more than 2 weeks. It was 3cw3eks until I could change my sheets. I think I would know if I was a little "off." That covid infection scared me so badly that I'm very cautious now. I plan boosters for the holidays so I can see my family for special occasions. My kids have had it two or three times each because they socialize much more and will not mask now. But they keep current on boosters and vaccines too. The covid boosterscdon xt keep my kids from getting infections but they keep them out of the hospital in middle age, one having diabetes and the other asthma. They have had paxlovid for the nire recent infections and did well with on need for a second round of it. Use common sense and keep informed from reputable sources like the AMA and TWIV on YT.

I don’t know if I have this just right, but it’s close: Perturbations in motion of Uranus (FACT) didn’t fit the theories developed at the time (Newton and, I think, Kepler). The laws (THEORIES) certainly weren’t thrown away. The fact was shelved until an explanation for it could be found. Eventually, the fact was integrated into the theories with the discovery of Neptune. So, let’s not be too simplistic. Naturalistic inquiry advances with good logic, open minds, and willingness to be puzzled by the apparently simple or obvious. 😍

Dr Racaniello is poorly informed about epidemiological topics so it is disappointing to see Dr Griffin yielding every time to Dr R's opinions. Like the one about T-cells even though all available research shows that vax protection wanes after 4-6 months. It is strange to see a presumed scientist so dogmatic in his thinking. If you want to get better insights on epidemiology of COVID etc you would be better served listening Dr Osterholm's podcast.

@bubbsy2002 День назад
Why are you here then? Stop trolling, if you have another expert with another opinion why not talk directly to the host, that would be proper IMO!
@Logotic
@Logotic День назад
Michael Osterholm is (very) poorly informed about virological topics and does not appear to know the difference between antibodies, which fade quickly, and cellular immunity, which doesn't. The influence he had in the early days of the pandemic was unfortunate.
@christopherrobinson7541
@christopherrobinson7541 День назад
_"Like the one about T-cells even though all available research shows that vax protection wanes after 4-6 months."_ The protection afforded by antibodies falls as the immune response contracts. These antibodies target specific regions on the spike protein (epitopes) that move as the virus mutates. This allows the virus to avoid immunity acquired from from the vaccines and previous infection. The cellular immunity (T cells) target different epitopes on the spike protein, that do not change much between variant subtypes, so it remain effective. The upshot is that as the antibodies fall the ability of the vaccine to protect against mild disease fall, but the protection against serious disease and death, is maintained at a high level.

Good advise to look for other opinions. I asked several times to invite a scientist with another opinion. Dogmatic thinking doesn't allow for that. These scientists know so much and read so much but are confined to their thinking. And draw the wrong conclusions from wrong data. It's highly likely that they have a share in selling mRNA vaccines regardless of the consequences.
