I love the idea that this sheriff lady is so dense that when she is faced with a supernatural hell town, all she can think about is arresting Murphy. You'd think anyone with a functioning brain would be pairing up with the only other non-hostile person in town, even if they were a convict.
Wow. The devs missed the perfect opportunity to let you go into the bathroom in that apartment and have, written on the wall, "There was a hole here. It's gone, now."
You know what's fucked up? When Pat pointed out the increase in arson due to Alessa, I thought to myself "Alessa? From Silent Hill?" And then I was immediately sucker-punched when I remembered that this _is_ a Silent Hill game. See, it's not that a sequel can't be different in tone from its predecessors, but when the game suffers an extreme tonal shift of this nature _unintentionally_, that's a bit of a problem.
25:38 Actually there was a prequel comic that showed that Cunningham lived in a apartment that bared resemblance to apartment 302. Implying she was a former resident of the place. It’sprobably a part of her Otherworld.
@@SuperWHIIITE Pretty sure s/he meant Silent HIll 4: The Room... Pat was talking about how Ashfield is the town in SH4 at 4:37 onward. Well that or the The Room being an easter egg at 24:48...
It's to differentiate it from other types of rape, such as statutory rape or the act of taking advantage of somebody while they're passed out or drugged.
I like Silent Hill 4, and while I hear many people say it's not their favourite Silent Hill game (though I have heard some people say that it WAS), I've never heard anyone say they hate it.
Medical spray is a real thing. They have spray forms of neosporin, which is a spray meant for medicinal purposes. It may not be an insta-heal item, but medical sprays are a thing.
Did you not read? Your argument is irrelevant. There's no criteria to quantify what counts as medical spray. Furthermore, that doesn't discount the fact that spray neosporin is still a real spray that is used for medicinal purposes. MEDICAL SPRAY.
bluesplus1 I think he is talking about how in almost every game to have medical spray in a survival setting, it heals the player completely. Other than that though, I dunno if he has an argument. Medical spray is still fucking medical spray.
Yeah Downpour has some a few major shortcomings (like the monsters and combat) but if I had to choose between this and Homecoming I would throw Homecoming down a chasm and then throw an ax at it as its falling down.
Is it better than Origins? I never played Origins, but I know that it connected to the original Silent Hill story, and I thought it would get kudos for that.
Downpour is fine, people just try comparing it to the older games too much and it loses a lot of its appeal. It’s a decent game, but a bad Silent Hill game.
I find it pretty interesting how Murphy seems to be haunted by imagery of wheelchairs or paralyzed people. It's obvious at the end that it's all because that officer friend of his was paralyzed by the shiv in the bathroom, but Murphy wasn't the one who did that (at least in this playthrough). Why is Murphy being haunted by stuff he didn't do? Wouldn't he be haunted by huge fat men, because THAT was the man he killed? Short answer: Because they couldn't be bothered to think of an interesting reason for it, and just figured that the Murphy was guilty until you got to the end and possibly get the good ending.
Murphy's story is the most convoluted bullshit that for some reason doesn't focus on his actual trauma (his son's murder) and instead leans in hard on half assed prison drama noir.
He feels guilty because he is the guy who was supposed to kill his cop friend. He didn't know that was the man he was to kill until he showed up, but he still felt guilt for agreeing to murder someone and getting his friend in that shower room. He feels responsible for what happened to that man. Also, he was being sent to a max. security facility for the crime and prison life itself is said to be traumatizing. Hence why much of the focus was also on his experiences inside prison. There was obvious trauma and such from what happened to his son as well, as it is the reason he got himself locked up (so he could kill the guy who killed his son). And Silent Hill used that on him in the monastery. The town has formed for the female cop and not as much Murphy (I theorize this is why Murphy is left to explore more and see other stories-sidequests). If that isn't true, then the town still works to make him accept his issues, like with DJ Ricks too (only that guy hides instead of doing anything). But the sex dolls, the mourning badge, and so on are born from the female cops issues. Revenge is the overarching theme, and the consequences of it. Enemy design is on the lame side, but eh, I love this story. It's terribly sad and makes me sympathize for Murphy, his son, and the female cop. His son's murder happened some years ago too, which is maybe why the assault on Coleridge (cop friend) and his time in prison, that happened more recently, is at the forefront.
The "stick with a hook on it" is a Harpoon, a common tool used during fishing and whaling. It is not meant to strike people, but to be thrown, so that the piercing end may enter the foe, and the hook can keep it from easily being removed from the victims body, making it useful for keeping an animal from running (or swimming/flying) away.
say what you will about Downpour, but at least actual effort was put into the game to make it somewhat Silent Hill-like. It's just that it never really came together unfortunately. That makes it 1000000 times better than Homecoming.
"Why aren't we as a society getting closer to medical spray?" "Because it's not a real thing" "But why aren't we making *strides*?" "Because it's not a real thing" Great conversation Pat, not like it was your job to talk or anything.
FINALLY! I've been watching 2 channels doing this game and comparing it to past silent hill games, and FINALLY someone mentioned the room! Thank you Mat and Pat!
CorrosiveBullet WAT,SH Downpour was awesome,it's my favorite SH after SH4,the only thing they messed up is the monsters, they could done better, but the story, otherworld and side quests are damn good. Sorry for bad eng.
Kami kaz I wouldn't say it's that good, but I do think it's the next best after the original four SH games. SH2 and SH3 were absolutely amazing games. Much better than this.
I just came from watching the homecoming abomination and this game definitely seems much better. I haven't played any silent hills since team silent stopped making them, but I might play this if I see it very cheap, which I should by now. Still can't think of them as "silent hill" games though.
Something I really miss in this silent hill game from, say, the first silent hill game is that the monsters were NEVER idle. If you saw a monster, it was always flying/running at you from the fog.
Medical spray isn't a thing but recently we invented an injection of gauze that works very much like the hightech wound closing shit they use in the Halo books.
The police report also mentions that Murphy's arrest took place in Ashfield. Ashfield, PA is an hour's drive from Centralia, PA, the town that Silent Hill is based on.
I like yahtzee just fine. I don't really agree with him very often, though. I think he didn't try to understand the character at all. And why on earth would such effects be isolated to a single town? It makes perfect sense.
😂😂😂 the silent hill popo crack me up! Even more than the post man! I love the idea that all the monsters in silent hill got together and decided they needed cops.
They were being sarcastic. Anyway those are two different games made by two entirely different companies. How would you expect everyone to have the same tech as each other?
Is it just me but when these two do the "child voice" i cant get it out of my head (when pat says "if you gonna be ah big boy" or matts famous "dis is dah worse birfday eva!"
They dun goofed. Also, why was the HD Collection only 2 and 3? Maybe they didn't feel confident in the first game as it was a PS 1 title and not "modern" enough, but what about 4? There wasn't even really fog to fuck up!
