After cruising the divide cut, we anchored just outside the first lock on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway in Mississippi on Bay Springs Lake. We are cruising with two buddy boats today, a Kadey-Krogen and a Nordic Tug. I don't think anyone expected this on our first cruise together!
Thanks for watching!
Cheers from the Loop,
Jennifer and Elliot

ABOUT US
Hi! We are high school sweethearts from Atlanta, Georgia who decided to take a year off to travel around the world. Together we decided to create vlogs for our journey as a fun way to remember it. On September 15, 2019, we left Atlanta with 3 bags, 2 one-way tickets, and 1 goal of traveling for a whole year. Little did we know, 6 months later we would find ourselves in a nationwide lockdown in India. After spending 5 months in India, we came back to the United States and decided to purchase a 34’ Trawler, dive headfirst into boat life, and kick-off America’s Great Loop.
The good, the bad, the ugly - and most importantly, the real and real funny. We’re not here to tell you “how it’s done.”, just how we’ve done it. And that whatever it is that’s calling you - the way you’ll do it is much more attainable than it may seem.
Thank you for following us along our journey!

What happens too is a tow will run over a buoy and drag it from the correct location.
@karlstreed3698
@karlstreed3698 9 месяцев назад
If you find a buoy is in the wrong spot let the Coast Guard know and they will include it in the next Notice to Mariners and eventually move the buoy.

I've had deer cross the river in front of my kayak. In a way, it is cooler than dolphins showing up. Safe travels!

Don't know what type line you were using to rescue grounded vessel but you should be aware that the line may behave like a big rubber band with unhappy results if you are exposed. Stranded nylon has most stretch that's why I use it for anchoring, less shock. Also used it for rock climbing for that reason. Braided Dacron has much less stretch but can still give you a bad case of whiplash. Smooth sailing.

True, that’s the big thing we were thinking about while putting it under tension… one of our tenets is to try not to make a bad situation worse! That would have been much worse 😁

We just learned today about reindeer swimming and was curious what that would look like. So how coincidental to see deer swimming in the video! SO COOL!

Oh I bet seeing Reindeer would be spectacular as well!

15:45 The deer were like “Hey we’re swimming here!” (In a New York accent, lol) That’s a cool first.

I love your videos. But, I have to warn you about battery charge. I assume you have lead-acid. The lowest charge should be 50% or 12.2 volts. 0% is 10.5 volts. I was surprised to learn this. The problem with going too low is that you can’t recharge to full and you - as many say - destroy your batteries. This is said probably long after you are done but, nonetheless, it’s good to know.

This was 2022 and pretty they ran lithium

We have a lithium house bank so we typically run them almost dry. No issues 😁 one of the reasons we upgraded!

I’m enjoying this video Wednesday afternoon about 6 hours after it was posted, it’s like a late present because it’s really 🥶 Cold in North Georgia today and I think I’m getting Cabin Fever too. I think working in cold weather makes you so much more “exhausted”, than doing the same thing in warmer weather…..which is probably why someone invented Mac & Cheese!! Try “Amy’s” Mac & cheese, you’ll like it too!! I think all of hers are without any kind of meat in any of the meals, and there’s a great back story about her doing it for her children that makes you feel so “healthy” while you’re eating them!! They’re really good too…

What temperature do y'all move inside instead of being on the fly bridge?
@SchoandJo
@SchoandJo 9 месяцев назад
Probably when it feels like 30 or 40 degrees, we'd move inside! Hard to say exactly, a lot of it depended on the wind chill.

I'm looking to do the Great Loop in a 40 to 50 foot High performance boat?. And I will not run aground like I've seen others
@SchoandJo
@SchoandJo 8 месяцев назад
Good luck! I'm not sure what boat you are looking into, but we just wrote an article about great loop boats; maybe that can help your decision. Although, I'd say any boat can run aground if we're dedicated enough 😁 schoandjo.com/great-loop-boats/

I loved getting underway at first light when I was still running the Ohio. I used to see deer crossing the Ohio. I even saw a black bear doing that. Hopefully by the time you got back to the Gulf, you got back into sunnier, warmer weather. This year thanks to an El Nino, we are having a cooler, wetter, grayer winter thus far.
