I was on my way to photograph the remains of the old Port Huron & Detroit Railroad roundhouse as it was torn down back in May after decades of deterioration due to the railroad's historical society unable to strike a deal to buy the collapsing structure from CSX. This later was followed up more recently by the on-going dissolution of the Port Huron & Detroit Railroad Historical Society due to some internal society issues. With the property likely going back into CSX hands soon, I decided to make it out to the PH&D's former headquarters at the wye on 32nd Street in Port Huron, Michigan to get some pictures. Unfortunately, I was rather unprepared on the video front because I didn't bring my camcorder or tripod as I wasn't anticipating a train, let alone two. I only had my DSLR for photos and my iPhone (which was running low on storage space, which explains the random fades because I needed to quickly delete some old videos as the coal train went by. I also had to film the last clip of the local leaving with my DSLR.) for video. I noticed a northbound headlight and was rather surprised for it to be the as-needed E660 train coming back to CSX's side of CN's Tunnel Yard from the Belle River Power Plant in East China. From there it'll make its way back out to Montana for a new load of coal back to Michigan. This train will soon fade into the history books as a new natural gas power plant will be replacing the coal fired ones in East China so I was glad to properly film and photograph it. A little while later, CSX's usual PH&D yard job drags a small cut of 2 boxcars and 4 tankers. Not sure if it was a slow day because usually the train heading back to Marysville and St. Clair is much longer, could've been the loads from D710, or it could've been some extra cars needing to be moved. CSX's side of the yard in Port Huron was pretty empty from what I could see. Regardless, its not very common to see more than the yard job on the former PH&D as only the as-needed coal train and Monday-Friday yard job run the line.
