Two Second World War Curtiss P40 fighters show off their stuff during their display at the Warbirds Over Wanaka 2012 airshow held at Wanaka Airport, Wanaka, New Zealand.
The Old Stick and Rudder Co's aircraft (the one with the Sharks mouth) is one of only two surviving airworthy RNZAF P-40s in the world.

sweet! research showed that the p40 did darn well throughout the war, esp 15,000feet and below.

The Mustang is better at HIGH altitude, for sure (thanks essentially to its compressor, which the P-40 did not have), but at mid and low altitude the P-40 outperforms the Mustang, as I am aware that a fair number of pilots (not necessarily P-40 lovers) stated. Besides, I´m afraid that the P-51 did not stand for as much damage in combat as the P-40 did, which had a more rugged and robust construction.
