Keep a roll of masking tape with you. When you pull multiple things off, number them in order of removal. If you disconnect several things, number the connections the same, so you know what goes into what.

Hi Krissy ! A small electric air compressor would be a good idea for blowing out the air filter and any dust anywhere else in camp, like the inside of your trailer or truck, even you if you're covered in dust at the end of the day! Take care!!

Try your hairdryer. That's. What I use. Works great particularly on yhat size of filter.
@lucatorresan5412

Hey Krissy, a small bit of advice, You should blow the air filter from inside out. If you blow from outside in, you will block the air filter. Keep up the great work!👍
@glentomkins8044
@glentomkins8044 2 года назад
Also you need to blow air from the inside out, not the other way. When it's running, the air is being sucked into the middle of the filter, and the dust accumulates on the outside. You need to blow air from the inside to remove the dust.

A couple tips Krissy- To get the battery terminals all the way down properly you need to use a screwdriver to spread open the wraparound ends a bit, then slide it all the way down and then re tighten the bolt. And, it is actually okay to gently tap one side then the other back and forth to get them down snuggly if necessary, you will not hurt anything by doing that. To clean your air filter better you should actually blow it out from the inside out- opposite of the way the air gets sucked into it. I admire your determination to do things yourself!

Oh how exciting! I hope you will let us know when you find out! I am so happy you found a great little spot! I grew up in the desert, and my dad was a mechanic who always kept a spare air and fuel filter, fan belt, spark plugs, oil and a few other things in the tool box in the bed of his pickup in case he broke down outland. He also had a pair of coated gloves so he wouldn't get shocked. I was so afraid when you dropped the camera that you had gotten a shock! I have zero mechanical ability, so I am just in awe of you fixing that yourself! Awesome job hun! Do take care out there! Joanie and Ger Bear

Awesome Krissy. You're going to be a super star in Germany soon. With the off road driving you do, you should change your Oil, oil filter, fuel filter and air filter every 5000 kms. That old motor will always keep going then. Also, with your battery clamps, disconnect them and take out the tightening bolt and carefully push a screw driver into the gap and twist it a bit to expand the joint. That will let you push them all the way home. Keep finding the colour Krissy.

You did the right thing by disconnecting the negative terminal first. To make it safe you can use anything even plastic bags or whatever just to keep the terminals insulated from things so they don't knock against the body of the truck while you are changing the battery. You are mighty. Changing a battery takes strength and commitment.

Gr8 opener of the "Gearing Up" routine and am glad 2C you've got an Aux Battery on the Land Rover. (is there a spare on the trailer?) Removing the Ground First & connecting it Last is the proper & safest method of swapping Car Batteries. Sometimes washers are used between terminals to keep them from bending other terminals when tightened, but just one under the nut is good. Ya might want to "re-terminate" the one that's down to a few wires. My Boat had two Batteries w/ an "isolation switch" allowing power & charging from/for either or both Batt's. Be Kewl, Stay Safe & Hav Fun ! !

I am A Mechanic, An You did Amazing Job. Negative First always. Once the negative is off, It wont shock you. Then Negative last just like you did it. I usually run a string or zip tie through multiple wires to hold them back. That small red positive wire that was kind of floppy should be fixed . But will hold for while. / Also great choice on battery's. Sealed battery is always better in my mind. / They seem to last longer I think. / Air filter if you can see light going though it. This mean it is ok. Look from the inside out. If not I usually tap it with my hand to clean then re check. / I would replace it if you CAN NOT see light. / Love the metal Detecting. I hope you find a Potato size Gold Nugget again. :)))

All that wire: If it was me, I would have been looking for a ball of twine or a roll of tape to tie the wires back and create an opening for the battery to be eased down into. Yes, put together and electrical kit that includes a crimping tool, terminals, fuses and a few spools of wire in various sizes.

Great hunt Krissy! And excellent auto work. I have twin daughters, one paid attention to dad and learned how to change her own oil, check her fluids and tires, etc. the simple things to keep you going. The other one doesn't know where her dipstick is at. Go figure. Anyway i don't know if it'll work there and it doesn't here all the time but i call it my "fly relief." It's simple and most of the time it works. Most. I take a pie dish, fill it about halfway with water, add a little salt and float a sponge on it or in it. The flies are drawn to the moisture and the salt. Pretty soon they decide to take a swim. It'll usually work up to 50 - 100 feet away from you. Also i bet your happy for a bed:-) Months i slept in the cab of my truck till i finally got a topper and built a bed. Something to stretch out on. Was great! Peace.

Krissy, I want to comment on you being told not to hammer the battery connector. It's partially true. If you have the bolt and screw loose on the connector and the connector will not fully seat down you can lightly tap on the connector until it fully seats. Just don't hammer down too hard because you can damage the battery connector.

G'day Krissy it's always nice to find a bit of gold after long hours of trash. I find that dug ground very interesting as you described it. A shear zone showing ( possibly) sulphides (yellow), & also ironstone staining (red) from water leaching around the contact zone and the bonus of country sedimentary rock (? the black with intrusions in it) are usually a pretty good indicator of an enrichment zone. The crew could be onto something pretty good there. Particularly as chunky bits, with good sized nuggets like you found recently, are known to be in that area. If a large main reef has never been worked in that area before then who knows! A little tip for that "spaghetti of wiring you were wrestling with. Carry an old bicycle & also a motorbike inner tube & if you need to pull those or any other wiring off again simply slip a length of the appropriate sized tube over each little bundle of wires to insulate them from shorting & "Gaffa" tape the end. A short "ocky" strap hooked on to them will keep them out of the way. And remember the best bushies tools are "fencing wire & Gaffa tape" 😏!

Rule of thumb. Always disconnect the negative lead on a battery first in a car. Reason being if you accidentaly touch the spanner on the body or other bit of metal it will not short. Least you guessed right. You can do positive, but just have to be cautious.

As long as you disconnect the negative cable first your good, nothing will short out and spark. It’s interesting the vehicle has a separate battery for the starter. Yes change the filter. Do yourself a favor and get a battery operated air compressor so you can blow out the air cleaner. They make them for filling tires also.

hi krissy love watching you enduring the weather for the gold search , but also should get workbook for the 4wd and fix the wiring harness, nothing worse than being stuck in the outback

Cloth tape mate - it is an awesome spare hand. I always use it to bundle wires and hold them out of the way. Good that you do not quit though. And use your brain.... That wiring is a bit messy mate - yet again you can use cable ties to permanently tidy cables - cheap and easy. Get a small 12v compressor .....and the electrical connector kit ! 12 volts is VERY gentle - the so called zap is tiny - your skin resistance protects you. Arcing is more of a hazard for the vehicle BUT not for you. Use a bit of wood to tap things down.

For a minute there I wished I was there and teach you while doing it. The car battery will never "zap" you.

Well I had several suggestions, but I read through the comments and they pretty much covered them all, and it seems the fly's have an interest in your gold too, they never fail to check them out when sitting in your palm, perhaps there considering a heist! keep an eye on them and make a note of distinguishing features! just in case! Anyway im glad to see that your still finding gold, Cheers Krissy!
