Symi is a small Greek island and municipality. The island is quite mountainous and includes the harbor town of Symi and its adjacent upper town Ano Symi. Population is about 3000.
Symi is one of the Dodecanese islands, located approximately 25 miles north of Rhodes. Its nearest neighbor is Turkey which lies a few miles - across the sea. The island of Symi itself is 22.4 square miles and is mainly made up of mountainous terrain, with beautiful valley interiors and a rocky coastline. Its main industry is sea sponges and tourism, especially religious tourism.
