The tuning Pete La Roca uses on the song "Basra" from the same title album is one of the absolute best I've heard in terms of how it fits in with the atmosphere of the other instruments. It's basically medium high and the rack tom is not too high.
Do you use both heel down and heel up? I have a bop kick tuned just like yours and I’ve had to completely change my position on my throne and on my pedals in order to manage the rebound. It’s exceptionally harder to play a nonported bop kick like this to me. I’m attempt to adapt though because I believe my prior approach was only suitable to rock whereas an updated style may apply broadly
