Jennifer was such a character. And in this my beloved Great Uncle Anthony appears too. When he died, we were all standing around his grave, Bartletts love a good funeral for some reason, clutching handfuls of earth to toss onto the coffin beneath us to send him off. As we did this, Jennifer, clutching earth in one hand and evidently a small bottle of whisky in another, mistakenly threw the bottle down on top of his coffin. We all roared with laughter which drew some curious looks from another funeral that was taking place about 50 meters away. What they must have thought of us....
I miss both these ladies. Really adored them. Real "one-offs". They behaved together like two naughty overgrown (very) schoolgirls! Do wish they were still about!
I know, I miss them to, these 2 were such a hoot, not only did they give us a cooking lesson of Traditional England Cooking, but, they took you on field trip to a England Farm and, what ever was the main course for that meal or a particular food item and, the care that went into that item to make edible. On top of there sense of humor, there will never be another food show like it, I truly loved the sense of humor these 2 had.
There will never be one half as good to watch. So sorry Jennifer died so young but I do believed she packed more in her 71 years than most people would do in 200. Such fun.
I love them. Cultivated, and having fun with rich cooking; delicate seasonings, but loads of fat, glorious humour and just what we lost these days...the simple joy of LIFE.
What a Amazing life she lead .... Such old customs and beliefs .... The mould was broken when they made her ..... I can’t believe it’s 21 years since she passed ... Sadly missed ..... She always made your day after you watched her so comical and Accentric
I love these two ladies, I watch and rewatch all their episodes, and they never get old- always entertaining! It was a sad day when Jennifer passed from cancer. I wish that both ladies could have made more episodes! Rest In Peace, Jennifer and Clarissa, you birds are sorely missed!😊❤️💕🥂
'Two Fat Ladies' is a wonderfully entertaining series; I adore both of these unique and amazing women. The cooking sometimes takes second place to their often sharp and hilarious quips and anecdotes. Having read Jennifer's biography and Clarissa's series of autobiographical books, these women were truly one-offs who lived life to the full - and their recipes actually worked! RIP Two Wonderful Women. 🌹🌹🌹
I watched these ladies from the very beginning with my mom and my sister who have now both passed away but watching them again by myself brings back wonderful memories and I can imagine them still here watching with me.
I was a teen when I discovered, Two Fat Ladies. It was a real eye-opener for a young American who’d never been abroad. I’ve been enamored with Brits and British culture ever since. I did finally have the good fortune to spend quite a lot of time in England. Every American needs to watch all four series of their amazing show. It’s an especially wonderful escape during lockdown.

I feel the same way that Jennifer did about "having a bit of fun" outside of marriage. I too would have had the same reaction when asked to deliver breakfast to someone having a tryst. I don't care how high of a personage he was. I would have bluntly refused and left. Eternal rest grant unto Jennifer oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her, and may her soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen
She's from that era of British toffs who never seemed to have any real financial means of support but who nonetheless seemed to survive on their wit and social graces and small inheritances.
Such brilliant, inspiring, and fascinating ladies! Very very few people are like that now days. Absolutely no one from Hollywood. You could see the goodness and life force radiate from them. God, I miss them.

Pure magic in the kitchen, food, a delight to watch being made giggles, songs, remembered instances in life, the repartee between them was hilarious, never missed an episode & still watch the repeats when I can find them, a great duo of mature schoolgirl jesters, miss them both....tried a couple of the very easy recipes & they were delicious
What a character, so bitter-sweet to watch as it came to an end all too soon. All though appearing strong and self sufficient, she must have felt very lonely deep down, but must have found comfort in her faith.
My friend and I adore those 2 one of a kind "Dames" they are so interesting and with all of their banterings and stories there is always something interesting to listen to and their knowledge is never boring. Cooking programs are not that interesting but Jennifer and Clarissa make it a fun day in the kitchen. Miss them very much. Jennifer's greatest asset was her good memory and man that can get you so far in life, she was quick witted because she could remember so many little tidbits of information many people struggle just to remember what day it is let alone small talk and all of the small parts of all those old songs and poetry and such. she could have breezed through a script and I am wondering why she did not try harder to become an actress. Never the less we were so lucky to have known her.
Truly a person I would dearly have loved to meet, but probably wasn't much different from her on screen personality. Therefore I have met her and will cherish every moment of herself she gave.

I always loved watching Two Fat ladies late at night, well it was like 2 or 3am in the morning, they both had great sense of off the wall humor, they would just come out and say it. Not only that and being taught to prepare and cook Traditional England Food, then, they took us on a field trip to these different farms to a particular item they needed for that meal, there will never be another food show like it. I didn’t like it when, I missed there show for sure, then, when, Jennifer died,I was very saddened when, I could no longer watch their show. Here’s to the much happiness they brought into our lives, may they both rest in heavenly peace always, God bless!
I absolutely loved these ladies. Both of them. I would also love to learn something about the life of dear Clarissa, while she is still with us. Amazing characters both.
Loved both of them, I was and still an envious of how they lived life being unaware of there pasts. You just could feel it coming through as you watched the cooking show. I still watch the old shows . Always seemed to live life well ,very well. Amazing woman. I feel im better just having gotten to watch them on tv. They must have had a great affect on people in person,and a positive one I would think. Well done ladys,well lived.

I just Love Jennifer Paterson. I don't know why, her outgoing personality, her beautiful smile, her wit. I just love her. I as always attracted to her. She was 60 and was 25. I fell in love with her.
Great team . Jennifer and Clarissa. I loved them . I used many of the recipes . Yum. And I as a proud Omnivore used to love the jokes about vegetarianism. I am sure they were often drunk.
everybody has become so Elitist, so PC, these two were intelligent, talented and loads of fun… can't think of anyone remotely close to these two personalities… always loved the show. RIP ladies!
Exactly right! I can't watch anymore cooking shows here in America because everyone is so damned self-important to the point of boredom. If I'm going to watch a person stand over a stove for a half hour they had better have something witty and funny to say other than the obligatory "now let me show you the proper way". I miss these two girls and Graham Kerr too.
I define elitism as not being seen with anyone who you would not characterise as 'elite'. Pronounciation is something you acquire in youth and is difficult to change but being elitist is something you can decide to foster or not.
you are incorrect. advanced received pronunciation is taught at finishing school to try and reform their language to match those of the upper epsilons.
I got the biggest kick out of the fact that even though they were chubby and a bit schlumpy looking, they had these uber-posh accents, which seemed like such a dichotomy! Loved them! (and miss them too, they were a joy!)
I thought the most heartfelt comments were those of the lady who spoke near the end saying how Jennifer said The Two Fat Ladies were the happiest days of her life.
Being an accent challenge American boy I never understood a word and still pass out on the floor from laughing!! My mother came in and revived me, she said, "What's so funny?" I said, " I don't know, but quick, turn off the TV, I can't take no more!! "
