Hey you guys! Our dad decided that we should start our second year with a Bang! And wow! He did not disappoint ! Rush' 2112 is an amazing song that tells a story! It elevates you, it takes you to a place where there is turbulence and peace! It is a roller coaster of emotions, feelings and thought provoking details! It is simply amazing how three musicians (virtuosos) can dish out so many sounds and complexity in their playing, that would put most people in awe! Beautiful , lovely, stunning! Standing ovation!

Hey DAD, I love how you’re teaching your girls about our generation’s music. If you haven’t done Stevie Ray Vaughan then I would love for you to expose Dana’s Faith to some different genre and no better artist to react to than one of the best blues guitarist SRV!! I’m a fan of yours and it would bring me great joy to have this on your channel. Continued success.

There is an Easter egg in this song. At the end, they say "Attention all planets of the Solar Federation" 7 words, and it is repeated 3 times. 21 words. Then "we have assumed control" 4 words, repeated 3 times. 12 words. 2112.

Yes girls, 2112 is a Masterpiece. There is however another that takes up a full side from 2 albums. Take a listen to "Cygnus X-1" and the follow up "Hemispheres". They are labeled as Book 1 and Book 2 so it seems that both should be listened to at the same time to get the full story of the song. Be prepared though, Both are rather long but well worth the time spent. ENJOY!!!!!

@@lidlett9883 yeah but the record company wanted this album to have radio playable hits on it because the previous album (Caress of Steel) bombed. Rush decided if they were going to out it was going to be on their terms. The company was horrified and the band figured that was it. But the album WAS a hit and the record company left them alone after that.

A little background on this album. The previous albums had not enjoyed much commercial success and the band was under pressure from the record label and their own management to make a record that was “radio friendly” and would make more money. But as Alex said, the album “came from a different place, more from a place of defiance and anger that things were sort of going the way they were around us. So we were fighting back”. „There was a lot of passion and anger on that record. It was about one person standing up against everybody else.” Alex also said, if we’re going down, we’re going to go down in flames. The band often referred to the tour after the release of 2112 as the “going down the tubes tour”. If Rush had not made this album this way, they probably would have never recorded anything else again.

A masterpiece. A true rock opera. The tension & anger in the music you hear also comes from the fact the band were being pressured by the record company to deliver shorter radio friendly songs or be dropped from the label. THIS full side song was their answer. They would go down fighting - their way. The album was a success & the rest as they say, is history. Great reaction girls x

You looked at the the tempo changes, the changes in sound (angry to pleasant to frustration, etc) and Geddy's voice. Look at the story. The Temple demanded everyone was equal. The Temple demanded conformity. The guitar represented individualism. The Temple had to destroy that to maintain equality and conformity. Apply that to what is happening today in the country......... Great job. Congrats on anniversary

I feel like Juliet was legitimately moved by this one. Don't recall ever seeing her so rivetted as she is during Soliloquy, or as lost for words as is she is around 25:40 while Mia is speaking. A lot of social and philosophical undertones in this one, and I'm curious if she was ruminating over some of the story details? It's based on quite a philosophical book.

So you did Tom Sawyer, YYZ, The Spirit of Radio, Xanadu, the drum solo and now 2112. I would then suggest something like La Villa Strangiato, the full side A of Hemispheres, Freewill, Natural Science or some older stuff like By-tor & the Snowdog or an often overlooked gem like In The End. 2112, just another 91 years to go, I already booked my tickets. Will be a great concert. Keep it rocking ladies...

If you do the math on the final lines of the song “Attention All Planets of the Solar Federation.” 7 words spoken 3 times, 7 X 3 = 21. “We Have Assumed Control.” 4 words spoken 3 times, 4 X 3 = 12. Put the two solutions together you get 2112.

[Written to you: March 28th. Not "published" until now.....] The composition of the piece is designed after a standard for, so-called, "classical" music. This mimics a symphony. An overture is commonly used to introduce all of the separate themes of each movement (that is what the sub-sections are called). Overtures are introductory overviews. That said: generally, in a symphony (or many types of longer pieces), the entire work is meant to be heard/understood as a whole; therefore there are similar or repeated themes (sounds, melodies, rhythms, what-have-you) in most-if-not-all of the movements. However, each of the movements or "sub0sextions, can and does "function" "on its own." It is "absorbable" as a single piece, bu, in doing so, lacks the impact and satisfaction of listening to them all together. (You see what I mean?). This is true i. "2112" as well. There is a HUGE history to this album (WHY it is as it is and what it meant, etc.), too much (essentially) to "fully go into," here, however: A few things one should understand/know regarding this album: It was influenced (not directly derived from, but influenced by) Neil Peart's reading of: Anthem (a book -novella, as I recall- by Ayn Rand. -Now, I realize that: even mentioning her name has, now, become a, goddamned, "political" somethingorother 😠🤬😬🙄🙄🙄Anyone who is about to launch into a diatribe or "statement of support" (OR anything else!) needs to SHUT IT DOWN, IMMEDIATELY! - whatever Rand has come to "represent," now, has nothing, whatsoever, to do with: Anthem, Neil's reading of it OR me. Leave it all alone.). The book made a special connection with Neil and with a number of other artists (one assumes: Lifeson and Lee, as well). It describes (a very basic overview, here): an artist (someone who becomes one, at least) fighting against a massive, long-operational. oppressive system and inspiring revolution against said system and its totalitarianism. ...Something which I think a LOT of artists are drawn to and can understand, inherently. -Beside the influence from reading: Anthem; one, also, needs to understand that: RUSH, as an entity, …their career was, almost, "done" at this point, Their record label was unhappy with sales figures and told them, directly, to, "make a commercial album" and that if their following album was NOT as successful as desired, they would be dropped and would be out of a job, essentially. Despite the label's demands, RUSH recorded the album that THEY wanted to and that they felt their fans would appreciate & expect. They were EXPECTING to "go down in flames" and ACCEPTED that and wanted to do it on their OWN Terms! The result was 2112. Instead of failing, the album ended-up becoming their first major-selling album and went Gold [it has, by now, become a multi-Platinum-selling album] and led to a prolific and storied career; including a segment of financial success & commercial acceptance, in the 1980s, which they never surpassed, afterwards. This was the most commercially viable segment of their career and is, still, the most well-recognized and is beloved by many (both hard-core fans and "average radio listeners," as well)! Due to elements I've, just, described, the "story"/characters of the SONG/mini-symphony of "2112" can be/should be seen NOT ONLY in the context of/from the viewpoint of reflecting ideas from: Anthem but, can also be seen (and SHOULD be seen as): the band, RUSH, speaking to their label and to their negative critics. i.e.: the "discoverer" and protagonist on the tale, represents the band and its fans, while the "Syrinxists" …the priests and controllers of the, so-called, "Solar Federation" are representative of the record label, executives and/or musical critics & analysts (who did not understand or agree with the band's musical direction and sound.). ...When understood this way, it adds, yet, another layer; a further dimension; to the story and the emotions present. .…B.T.W.": the REST of the album is killer, too! This is one of the few albums where Neil Peart does not write all of the lyrics (he was the band's primary lyricist for his duration of time in the band). the music is, almost always, composed by all 3 of the band members, but on this album, both Lifeson and Lee have lyrical turns (a rarity for them). Lifeson, in fact, is the sole composer of "Lessons" (he wrote all of the music, as well) and Ged wrote the lyrics to "Tears". Neil would co-wrote with one individual, a few times; the amazing Pye Dubois [dedicated lyricist for Max Webster [another, fantastic, Canadian band (NOT a person!!!!), with whom they were label-mates and , often, touring partners.] and writing partner for: Kim Mitchell (that band's guitarist and a lead vocalist on the largest percentage of their songs, as well.)]. Pye co-wrote "Tom Sawyer" as well as writing "Between The Sun And Moon". ...as I, already, expresed: MUCH more to say about: this album [2112] and about RUSH, itself …but I will leave it as it is, for the moment! Glad to witness you enjoying this. 💜💜 🤘🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥😁

Great reaction girls so glad you made it to this song at last masterpiece doesnt even scratch the surface. Its perfection as usual Rush take you on a journet every time there will never be a band like Rush again so drink it all in.There are so nany more songs of theirs to enjoy. You should definitely try By Tor and the Snow Dog The Necrmancer what a dark foreboding track that is and The Fountain of Lamneth the whole second side of the Caress of Steel album

This is the definition of a rock classic. Definitely made an impact upon me to become a musician. I loved Rush because they didn't sing about darkness and demons but, created challenging music and thought provoking lyrics. Check out the tracks like "Freewill", "Vital Signs" or "Ghost Of A Chance" which is a love song but, not in a cliche way. It also about being a good person but without a religious indoctrination. A true thinking persons band.

I will always love the fact that at the beginning of this song people can’t believe how long it is. At the end, you’re sorry it’s over. Keep up the the good work and the intelligent conversation on the lyrics.

Well, I HAD a nice long comment all typed out and ready to go...forgot I was watching this from my "watch later" list and when it was over I was going to finish my comment but the next video on my list popped up and I lost everything. NOT happy right now, but glad you both enjoyed this and remember... without music life would be a mistake.

Well done ladies! You definitely felt the impact of this masterpiece. I still do after all these years. This song/album was Rush’s defiant response to the record company who wanted them to write more radio friendly songs after their previous album (Caress of Steel) and tour (They jokingly called it the Down the Tubes Tour) were commercial and critical failures. Rush absolutely “assumed control”artistically from here on out. Life changing!

Wow, it really makes me happy to see this younger generation get into the stuff I still love so much, I was in High school when that album came out want to got see Rush so bad but couldn't find any other fans. The tickets were like 12 to 15 bucks and the shirts were 8 to 10 bucks in those days. Ah yes, the good ole days when good music was everywhere. #dadpleasebuythegirlstheirrushtshirts

Almost everybody who listens to this song for the first time is impressed, like you kids, unless they just can't stand loud guitars. Your dad is cool. I noticed the Rush shirts since then. Maybe try listening to Cygnus - X1.

My favorite of all favorite bands and my favorite of all albums they ever produced. It's really cool that you watched the video that had the story along with the lyrics because that really gives you the full impact of 2112. Watching your reactions to this is absolutely priceless! Now people are going to jump into the comments and tell you to check out Operation Mindcrime. As I did before when they did that I forbid it. It involves drugs and murder. Wait a few more ice cream seasons before you listen to it. Check out Lazy by Deep Purple or Led Zeppelin's The Ocean instead please. Trust me....I was right about 2112, wasn't I?
