Hey, who are you calling old? 🤨😅 All kidding aside, I discovered U2 20 years ago, when I was in my teens going through a rough patch, and needed music the most. I'm 33 now. ♥️
37 years ago this video and song set the world on fire. MTV was in it's infancy and this was when all MTV showed was music videos. I was in the Marines and the world seemed to be filled with promise. U2, Pat Benatar, and Jefferson Starship were among the groups that were part of the soundtrack of my life at the time. Thank you Mia and Juliet for taking me there.
Was not expecting U2. They. have so many great songs. Dig deeper! You won't be disappointed. The love you two have for all kinds of music is amazing. Big thumbs up.
@@mr.e8432 the beginning of the end??? really??? hmmm - they reinvent themselves for the 90s with an astounding record "Actung Baby" which was not only super commercially successful but also acclaimed by critics and fans alike! Zooropa + Pop - again changed up their sound and experiments with electronic themes of the 90s house+dance era - then again reinvented themseves for the 2000s with another no 1 album in "All That you cant leave behind" - then in 2004 - "How to dismantle an Atomic Bomb" another acclaimed album giving them a "clean sweep" of 5 Grammys beating out Mariah Carey, Gwen Stefani + Kanye West (bear in mind this was 2005).....same year they were inducted into the "Rock+Roll Hall of Fame" on their FIRST year of eligibility....... then in 2011 they became the WORLD RECORD holders for the most successful "Live World Tour" of ALL TIME ..............(rattle + hum beginning of the end ) :) how amusing
@@gerbear3227 Achtung Baby was alright, Zooropa blows and Pop was even worse. I'm not interested in what critics think or how well the album sells. You're right though, they did change. You think for the better, I don't. That's all.
I never understood the hate for U2. Glad to see there's none here. They became the biggest band in the world after this show and then Live Aid. One of those bands where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. So many great songs - try Sunday Bloody Sunday from the same show. Bad from Live Aid, and When Love Comes to Town live with BB King. Followed by Mysterious Ways or One from the Zooropa tour which was a complete re-invention of the band's sound and image, and kept them at the top for another few years. They always knew how to put on a good concert.
You need to understand why U2 are so passionate - they are singing based on the Northern Ireland Conflict between Catholics and Protestants which was basically a war and in their lifetime
I am totally blown away that two young girls and singing the praises of a gig that was over 35 years ago! It is worth checking out the whole concert which is easily accessible on youtube or on DVD. It is amazing and a concert I love to this day. Well done girls!
Bono made a minor lyric change for this performance. He sang "under a thundercloud and rain" instead of "Under a blood-red sky" as they are playing in a rain storm.
I was 15 years old when I went to this show with my friends. On June 5th 2023 it will be the 40th anniversary of this historical, iconic concert. It had rained, a lot of rain. torrential downpour. None of us there thought the band would play the show. We waited, the band waited, the film crew waited and we waited. The rain stopped and banks of clouds came rolling down through the ampitheater, low thick clouds. The atmosphere was perfect. " The under a thunder crowd rain " line was added for us who attended that night. When they finally took the stage there was about 6,000 ( out of 10,000 seat ampitheater ) of us left as many departed because of the rain thinking there was no way they would play the show. Those who left that night probably still regret it. What followed was the most amazing magical concert I had or have seen. I am so glad you young ladies have discovered the greatest band ever and I hope you dig deep into U2's library. There are so many great songs to be discovered.
I watched this when it aired.. This was recorded and shown on MTV when it actually meant music television, and this performance really gave them their audience in America. This is what made U2 special back in 1983.. Nice to see you young ladies enjoying this..
You girls are reacting to U2 the very same way I did all those years ago. U2 was the band that first made me aware there is so much more to music than I was getting on the three or four local stations in the Midwest. I am forever grateful for the musical journey they started me on and I hope your journey is as wonderful as mine! A bad with a female lead you should get to know are the Pretenders. I love everything by them but one of the best live songs of all time is “I’ll Stand by You”. Just one of a million suggestions for you!
Now watch "Rattle and Hum" from the Joshua Tree tour footage, '87. It literally contains several of the greatest moments in rocknroll "live performance" history. no exageration.
Aww I love that you girls are enjoying U2! You picked an absolute Head BANGER to start with! Give Bloody Sunday a listen as well sometime if you can, one of their best songs as well!
Happy New Year girls! Indeed, the perfect song choice for New Year's Day! I remember when this song first came out. U2 is one of many groups I enjoy listening to. I love watching your reactions to bands you have never listened to before. U2 recorded so many great songs and I know you will enjoy their musical collection. My favorite songs are With Or Without You, Where The Streets Have No Name and Pride (In The Name Of Love). I am glad you both liked the song and gave it a standing ovation! Excellent reaction once again! Blessings and love! 💖
The rooftop music video is great, but the footage and performance from "Rattle and Hum" is spine-tingling. The film is black and white until this song, and then the bright red backdrop and this song starts ... (mike drop)
Loved this reaction!! def check out "i will follow", "gloria" and "11 o'clock tick tock" by U2. Have a very happy and healthy 2021 and keep on rockin'!!
i will follow is an EPIC track and universally thought of as their 1st single but its wasnt their 1st - it was the 1st track on their DEBUT album "Boy". their 1st single/EP was "11 O'Clock Tick Tock" another real STOMPER especially LIVE :)
This right here is why I love watching you two foxes. Such wide eyed appreciation and enthusiasm for discovering great artists and their various styles of musicianship. Thank you for reminding me of when I first heard these songs so many years ago. God bless you!
Great reaction ladies. I first saw U2 on the Joshua Tree tour in 1987 and can still remember New Year's Day vividly with the crowd singing along word for word. I would recommend reacting to other U2 tracks such as BAD at Live Aid 1985 and With or Without you from Paris 1987. Keep up the good work in 2021 and Happy New Year
You remind me of myself when I was about your age and I could not wait to see U2. Camped out overnight for tickets. Fortunately I’ve been able to see them many times. Consider viewing another live version of the song from 2017 or 2018. Same four guys, same passion, all these years later. Tremendous live band.
Great choice ladies!!im a huge U2 fan!in my opinion U2 is the best band ever!in fact in the 80s n 90s they were known as the biggest band in the world!ive been lucky to have been to 4 concerts and each one was a real treat and a great time!
1983, Colorado, US. a band formed by 4 talented irish guys played under bad weather at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Fortunately their fantastic performance was recorded on videotape and the rest is music history.
You guys are so cute! I've been listening to U2 since their first album was released and it's so fun to watch you young fans react like I did when I saw U2 videos for the first time. Do yourselves a favor and listen to their entire catalog...it's a musical journey and you won't be disappointed!!!
The correct term is "LISTEN" just like in school those who only hear the teachers don't really learn much, but those who listen do. 😜👍 I definitely heard all the teachers...lol.
delightful young ladies :) jamming to U2 - best video of my day :) great reaction and very clever analysis - you both know your music - good for you :) happy new year + stay safe
Hi Girls', I grew up with these Legends and have been to a couple of there concerts, they are so talented and as you will find out have so many hits over decades, it will take you weeks to listen to them all. Great Reaction young Ladies and happy 2021.
I actually saw them on this same tour when I was just 10. They absolutely blew that crowd away and they were relatively unknown at the time. If you can believe it, they were the opening act for Todd Rundgren.
Simply their best song, very emotionnal, give me goosebump every time !! The Edge (the guitarist) is the master of guitar delay (he used it every time in a amazing way). Please try to react to their other massive hit "with or without you"...
I was at this concert; it was a rainy night--almost snowing, even in June...Red Rocks is a beautiful venue in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains near Morrison, Colorado.
Happy New Year, ladies! Another live U2 clip to check out is "Bad" at Live Aid, 1985. (Bono-the lead singer- danced with a woman from the audience during that song!)
This concert was performed under very rainy and wet conditions at Red Rocks in Colorado 1983. It was fitting for this band and Bono loved it! New Years Day is a war anthem song.
@@Augustbeauty69 I like Boy, I specially love October, War not so much because they went for a "raw" sound that I don't like and don't think they do so well, and Unforgettable Fire is my favorite album of theirs. I don't care much for Joshua Tree.
This is the U2 of the early 80s when I was in high school and fell in love with the band. This era was their post punk/new wave sound. They evolved and changed many times over the course of a LONG career (still active btw). In the late 80s and early 90s they were indisputably the biggest band in the world. Bono on vocals, Edge was the guitar player (and keys in this song). So many amazing songs. I Will Follow, Gloria, Out Of Control, Electric Co, Two Hearts Beat as One. Unforgettable Fire, A Sort of Homecoming, Bad, Pride (in the Name of Love), nearly every song on the Joshua Tree album, Mysterious Ways, One, The Fly, Beautiful Day, Elevation. Way more. Please react to more U2. You won’t be disappointed. Edit: Can’t believe I forgot Sunday Bloody Sunday. The version from that same concert is amazing.
Red Rocks is one of the best Venues to see a concert. Younger brother was fortunate enough to see this concert there, Myself, alot of band you've done Reactions to, including Metallica, Rush, and many more. Happy New Year to both you Keep Rocking Beautiful Ladies 🤟⚘⚘🤟
I've seen hundreds of react vids, and you two are my faves....ultra cute and beautiful natural reactions....love u girls....and Mia you light up utube with yr smile....it's makes me smile every time.x
I am old, but this was one of the best music venues ever. Murphy’s Law, U2, The English Beat and Bow Wow Wow. If you are ever in Colorado, check out a show at Red Rocks Amphitheater.
I remember first seeing U2 in 1981 for the "October" album tour. I saw them twice in 1983 for this tour the "War" album. I saw them at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheater about 2-months after the Red Rocks show, and again a few weeks later the US Festival.
Happy New Year to my favorite little sisters ! It's nice to see you start 2021 by branching out into different types of music. You're expanding your love of music by keeping your ears open. I'm looking forward to seeing where you go in the coming year; you're always so bright and charming, and your videos are always great. Keep it up, ladies !
Thank you so much for that beautiful comment ThatOneGuyAgain! Thank you for supporting us and for writing nice things. We have no one but our RU-vid family to thank for the direction we take in our journey into music. We hope that you like our future videos! : )
Great reaction girls❣️U2 has a sound the Music World really needed in the '83 tour. I sat in the 3rd row taking pics, when Bono fell back in the crowd, and I passed him over my head! You need to keep U2 at the top, they're in a class of their own.
I saw U2 at Live Aid, 7/13/1985, Philly JFK Stadium!!! They rocked the entire crowd!!! Also there I saw Ozzy, Santana, Tom Petty, and remember Phil Collins "In The Air Tonight" also. Led Zeppelin was the best of course, they played Stairway to Heaven!!!!! But U2 was magical as well, they had their crowd moment, well deserved.
fantastic song + reaction! I went to see U2 around 8 times in the 1980-1990's, every concert was amazing! One of the few bands who are even better live. PS: check out "Where the Streets have No Name", the music video/rooftop performance, amazing!
U2 is such an awesome live band. When reacting to their songs you always have to listen to the live versions. Bullet the Blue Sky would be a great one to react to. 😁 Happy New Year ladies! 🥳
Playing catch up here.😁 I enjoy watching many YT reactors including you 2!! ❤👍🏽 It really has been a year, but y'all reactor's and rediscovering music that I'd cherished in my younger years brought such amazing memories for what has been a trying year!! Thank you for your enthusiasm and pure joy, and for listening to, and appreciating great music!! Youth are a future and you are keeping it going!! 👏🏽🤛🏽❤
This song started out as a love song the singer was writing to his wife but ended up becoming a political song about unity, inspired by the Solidarity Movement in Poland in the 1980s. This was a movement that united people of different political and religious views to peacefully overthrow the communist dictatorship.
I’ve seen U2 78 times in concert. The first time was on this tour. Just like you I was also blown away the first time I heard them. I was in complete awe and still am to this day. Welcome to the fandom.
"New Years Day" was about "Solidarnosh" in Poland. That is; the Polish Labor Union battle against the Soviet Union's domination of Poland. No matter the struggle, no matter the sacrifice, "nothing changed come New Year Day". This was recorded in 1983, when the Cold War was at it's height (I'm a Cold War Veteran). We wanted, more than anything, to invade the USSR and push them out of the countries they had taken after WWII. This song by U2 was actually a screed against the USSR, and plea to the Communists to please let the Poles determine their own future.
You gotta do With or Without You! For the two of you, I recommend the Live in Boston 2001 video. You’ absolutely love the song! That particular live video will enthrall you!
You girls should watch the video of U2 live in Sydney, Australia on their Zoo Station tour. Especially the songs: "Even Better than the Real Thing" & my personal favorite of all time "Mysterious Ways" ! The album is titled: Auchtung Baby. It came out in '91 & you'll love both songs. They're right up there with "New Year's Day" . The Edge plays the piano & guitar at the same time on these as well. Happy listening! ❤️🎶🎵🎸🎹
This is for me my favorite period of U2. They are awesome in every way. Its really cold and raining at that show. The Edge is the master of harmonics and they are always clear.I love the videos from this show. Great choice ladies!
