It's nice to see that a woman will do home plumbing projects and explain each step of the process slowly and clearly. This is exactly what I need to do with my kitchen faucet in Argentina. I watched several videos that didn't address the leak at the joint. Thanks.

Thankyou very much, diane r, for posting this video. That jar cap gripper was a great idea. I didn't have one so I used two wraps of a wide rubber band and it worked equally well.

Thanks a lot for the video Diane. I am having the exact same problem, although my Moen 2-handle kitchen faucet has model # 87423 that I bought in January 2010. I am still waiting for o-rings from Moen, but, when I receive them, I'll do repair based on your video.
@Diane_R
@Diane_R 5 лет назад
You are welcome. Initially, Moen sent me the two O-rings and the bearing washers used in the video. I thought that the cap on the O-ring on the spout cap assembly should be replaced too. The O-ring on the spout cap failed about two years later. I think Moen is a little stingy with the spout cap/O-ring assembly because it is a more expensive repair part. If they did not send you the spout cap/O-ring, I would call them and tell a little fib that it still leaks and you need the spout cap. It likely will fail soon anyway in the near future. BTW, I tried to match up Moen's O-Rings with the standard sizes sold a the hardware store. The Moen O-ring's are not standard sizes. If you don't have it, here's the link to the parts for your faucet: www.moen.com/shared/docs/exploded-parts-views/87428pt.pdf

If the O-ring on the spout cap failed, could we fix it by using a teflon tape / plumber's tape to seal the threads of the spout cap?
@Diane_R
@Diane_R 5 лет назад
When mine started to leak at the cap O-ring, I tried plumbers tape and it still leaked. It slowed it down a bit while I waited for the part to arrive.

The model number for this faucet is 87413 (stamped on the rear of the spout). The current moen part numbers for the parts: the o-rings is 96778. Tthe bearing washer kit:100251. To replace the o-ring on the cap, it comes as a kit, the metal top with the o-ring: 100250. If you are getting free warranty parts, Moen is a little stingy with this kit. Eventually the o-ring will fail and leak. I tried to buy o-rings from a hardware store.(about .50 cents each) I did not have success finding the correct o-rings. I am pretty sure these are odd size o-rings.

I wish I'd found your video b4 I tore my faucet apart. lol I liked your handy tool for the washers. I was desperate and used a fork which ended up being ok. Thanks for your video!! OH, are there any washers that are spose to go inside the pipe? I have to tear mine apart again because I have a leak at the bottom. ugh!!! THANKS again.

The tool is a a 'O" ring pick #134. It's made from spring steel. I got mine from a local family plumbing store that's been around forever. There are many types of picks for 'O' rings, it's nice to have one. They are not expensive. There are only two 'O" rings which stop the water from leaking at the spout. They are spout 0-ring kit 117. Hopefully, the fork didn't mar the channel that the 'O' ring lays in. The two grey bearing washers allow the spout to smoothly swivel. They 100251 washer bearing kit. I hope that helps and thanks for the compliment.

My main water supply is very strong..After replacing the cartridges the pressure is still very slow. I think the problem is in the base of the spout. (clogged hard water Etc) Can I pour some White Vinagar in the base to open it up?

You shouldn't have to turn the water off, as the water flow is controlled with the handles, not the spout. Just remember not to turn the handles on while replacing the spout parts.
@Know-How-Now
@Know-How-Now 5 лет назад
You are correct. It's likely if I don't tell you to turn off the water, someone will argue that you could bump the handle and turn the water on. lol.

My faucet is leaking where you said but also from under the sink in the middle spout area. Do you think this is related to these washers you've replaced or do I have an additional issue with the faucet? Thanks
@Diane_R
@Diane_R 4 года назад
It's possible that the water from the leaking spout area is passing through to the underside of the faucet. I'd fix the spout and see if the leak underneath stops. If not, the is a gasket/sealant between the faucet & the top of the sink, maybe that has failed.

Does the washer in the cap stay about midway in the cap because it looks that way?

Sorry about the bad lighting, it was one of my first videos. I don't have a strong background in photography, but am trying to improve. I started another channel (I was kind of scared that no one would want plumbing advice from diane r) called KNOW HOW KNOW ru-vid.com/show-UCUsfNTwfDV3Ry_CFHJ9BeKA I've recently put up a bunch of toilet repair videos.

This is faucet is made with a lifetime warranty which means the o-rings and bearing washers are expected to last FOREVER. You probably could have just soaked the parts in vinegar to remove the buildup of minerals and then applied food grade grease. The faucet would have been good as new. Like mine. I wonder how many of these faucet have gone to the dump simply for lack of mineral deposit buildup and lack of lubrication! Most people would just throw the "bad" faucet in the trash, and get a new one. Moen should be ashamed of themselves for creating a product that so easily can be disabled. Mine was only about three years old when it started to squeak. Video is bit slow, but some people need that reduced speed of explanation. I have to thank you for the info on the cap removal; that it screws on/off. However, I used a rubber strap wrench from my collection of unique tools. NEVER use pliers on a chrome plated part. The thin chrome is easily damaged. You could have made a strap wrench with a leather belt. The Moen lousy parts diagram does not show the cap as being threaded!
@Diane_R
@Diane_R 2 года назад
The faucet is around 15-18 years old. I've replaced to cartridges 2 times due to leaks at the spout. I tried flushing them out first, but they still leaked. Moen has been good about sending replacement parts. I didn't think to make a strap wrench, that's a good suggestion.
