New fan here. I’ve been watching a lot of photography tutorials the past few months and have found some really great ones. But I do find a lot of RU-vidrs tend to go into too much detail. After seeing a few of yours a really like the economical way your videos flow through. No attempts at humour or obvious reaching for subscribers. It feels very natural and you get to the point well. Great teacher. Great personality. My two cents. Thankyou.

Hello Ed. I am learning a lot from your channel. Flash photography has always scared me off but your simple well structured teaching method is simple enough so that even I am able to understand. The quality of you content is superb. Thank you so much.

Hey Ed! Just "discovered" your channel yesterday. Love your no-nonsense approach to explaining what you do. Not hearing all about certain camera brands is refreshing too, too many other RU-vid videos are so full of brand-name dropping it takes away from what I'm trying to learn. I don't need someone I don't know make me feel bad for not having the latest Sony AR camera and whatever Batis-lens they use. You cut thru the crap and show technique and show how to achieve results. Thank You and keep up with the excellent videos! (pleeez!!)

Thanks, I like when instructors talk about experimenting-instead of making it seem like there are magic settings to use.

Me, too. I think most of what I learned was through experimentation. Lots of notes, trial and error. Then lots of practice!

I'm a newish subscriber to your channel so still doing lots of catching up on your great content. Just a heads up for others wanting to use the same flash & trigger, i'm a Godox TT685N (Nikon) user paired with many Godox TT600N flashes. The Godox TT600 flash also have the ability to auto use the HSS feature when going above sync speed. I like the fact that the Godox TT685 also has a trigger built into it to control the other flash units.

Hi, Ed. Thanks a lot for the 2-light flash series. Very helpful. The bare flash without a modifier seems to mimic more the natural light than one with a modifier. It is also easier to set up and to stabilize outdoors. Will you also do a vid about using Gel on flash outdoors? Thanks again.
@edverosky
@edverosky 5 лет назад
Darn, when sitting down to edit these shots, the main thing that popped into my mind; I should’ve tried gels! Especially considering I wanted a warmer effect on the first one. So, yes. I should look into a video about that. Thanks!!

Note on Godox: if it's off-camera, you don't need the speedlight specific to the camera manufacturer, even for TTL.

I use the same flashes :) One more thing about them is, that they can mix. I mean that you can fire a canon flash with a nikon trigger. I'am not sure for the sony versions, but I do believe it is the same. I use a X-pro transmiter, just because it is way more easy to setup, than X1T. But they both will work :)

Like the video Ed , but can you explain why do people use the screen to compose the photograph . I always though this is why camera Manufactures put a viewfinder on the camera to look through . every time i see pros do this i think of wild west cowboys keep up the good reviews Ed
@edverosky
@edverosky 5 лет назад
It’s weird when I catch myself doing this! It usually happens when I’m switching back and forth from stills to video on the same camera. The viewfinder on these mirrorless cameras is just a tiny screen anyway. So I guess I can always use that argument. 😂

Hey Ed I’m here to boost the algorithm of your channel and learn from you as I want to be a professional photographer within the next two years along side my career as a physical therapist assistant. I haven’t found the information from you yet but I’ll copy paste this to your newest channels. So my question, with indoor portraits ive seen other people set their camera to take a shot to get a black frame in order to make sure the ambient light doesn’t affect the shot and only allowing the off camera flash to help set the mood of the pictures. How would that be done?
@RS-Amsterdam
@RS-Amsterdam 5 лет назад
Good explanation as we use to get from you. Just one Q, (and this is not about wrong or right), in the beginning you are shooting with that OctoBox but wouldn't it be more convenient (weight and size) to use an umbrella or was your car nearby ?? Thanks again for sharing ;-)
@edverosky
@edverosky 5 лет назад
The octobox is an umbrella folding type so it wasn’t a problem. You’re right, I don’t know if I’d want to carry my larger one to the location. 😁

Thanks again. Some color gels would have been cool in the background of the steels structure.
@fromanabe8639

I assume you're using a mirrorless camera since the photographer is composing the shot using the rear LCD screen.
