If it's plainly on video and they only serve half the sentence in custody there's nothing to appeal. The reason they are sentenced so quickly is because they pleaded guilty

Because these guys are guilty beyond doubt, only need a jury when there is a doubt or evidence is lacking/dodgy.

Having done Jury service 2 months ago you can't keep a Jury panel in the court for 24 hours a day it just doesn't work as a thing. The "guilty beyond doubt" thing is just a nonsense, you are still entitled to justice in whatever way you want, it's just not practical but I suspect if requested by someone claiming to be innocent i'm not really sure if the court would have a reaon to say no. In the case of them pleading guilty a jury isn't required anyway, I was let out early on 3 days of my service because the people involved plead guilty so we wern't required... As a side note Jury service lasts 2 weeks and is probably the biggest waste of time I have ever been involved with, at least for me perosnally.

The CPS will only prosecute watertight cases . Also remember any Governments first duty is to protect themselves and then the people, and these people WILL be found Guilty no matter the defence put up.

Governments first duty is to protect the people, themselves definately isn't in front of that.

The case is still under investigation and the police are appealing for more witnesses and and phone footage of the incident and the others (luggage hall and Starbucks). I would imagine with the severity of the assaults and the fact a police officer has been suspended the police what to be 100% sure the 2 individuals involved don't wriggle out of receiving a sentence.
