I love the fact that I’m not the only one who can’t leave a small area open, I will do the same, find the smallest bead and lay it sideways. I personally say to myself, “you are your worst critic”, Also, after I’m done with the project, I will use rubber cement to tack onto my buckskin, it’s so much easier to work with and won’t bend your needles, if you happen to get it close to the edge. Thanks for showing! Each day is a new day to learn something new. Many blessings.

Hello Mona. Thank you so much for sharing your techniques, I am a beginner beader, & what I was doing was time consuming. So, I will try out the 2 needles beading. Plus I love how you find tiny beads to fit into your design. Your beading is beautiful, I appreciate passing your knowledge to us, because some of us don't have any one to show how to bead. Many blessings to you and your family. 🤩🥰💐😉👍🙏🙂💞🧵🧬

The paper I used to bead on was just something I had handy. It parchment paper, I used it because I could trace on it. I've used graph paper, regular paper before. I don't draw directly on the felt because it seems to leave larger stains and sometime you can see the pen marks through the beadwork. Sometimes I even color the paper to match the beads.

Hi Mona, Thank you for sharing your tutorials with us. I have always wanted to do beadwork but I never had any family to show me how. Now with RU-vid I am able to learn. My problem is the design work, I want to be respectful of designs. I know it's rude to use somebody's or some tribal design that is not public. I love these designs and would love to make them myself. I know that there is contemporary designs now that are not tribal. So my question is, how to design traditional pieces without being disrespectful? I am also curious to know how you finished the back of the braid holder? Do you use leather to tie it on? Can you make a tutorial about that? With help from people like you I may finally become a beader, Thank You!
@monac.8890
@monac.8890 6 лет назад
Patricia Cheney Your welcome. I used leather for the backing and then used a Barrett blank I got from hobby lobby. After I added leather backing and finished the edging, I glued the Barrett blank down on top of leather then sewed it down going through the beadwork but being careful to keep stitches between rows of beads. It hold up pretty good. As for the designs it's good you are being respectful and there are many designs that can be used. Pintrest is a good resource for designs. And really anything you want to bead, the sky's the limit. Happy beading.

Hey Mona, thank you so much for your tutorials. My grandmother taught me beadwork growing up, and she passed 13 years ago. I let go of this craft for a long time and didn't yet master my dexterity and the ability to do applique work, edging or finishing my pieces on leather. Your videos are so helpful, along with your commentary and your way of putting things... It really helps me learn in an environment that's soothing and nurturing much like the beading sessions I had with my grandmother. I do have a question.. When outlining the initial image, how exactly do you keep the thread from tangling and getting criss-crossed in the back? I am trying my hand at applique and find it hard to follow the outline without the back of the piece looking all wonky and tangled. Do you just skip to the nearest line? Or are there times where you might backtrace over previous lines to prevent it from getting too crazy? I don't know how else to word it.

Mona C, your videos are wonderful!! Your peaceful spirit and energy radiates out through your voice. I am having issues with my needles becoming bent very quickly. I am able to use them but I’m wondering why mine are always C-shaped and in all of the beading videos I watch online, their needles are straight...yours included. I am using #11 and/or #12 beading needles. Do yours become bent? I am looking forward to seeing your upcoming video on the lazy stitch on leather and also your upcoming video on making moccasins! 🙂I know that you are busy and really do appreciate that you take time to create these videos for us! Aura Wright Thank you for watching😍🌸🌹 I'm wondering if your gripping your needle to hard. Maybe lessen the pressure when your tacking? My needles do get bent eventually, and especially when I'm going through a thicker material. I go to the extent of making sure there is no Oil on my fingers, no lotion also. And then rub my beading fingers on my beeswax to get them kinda tack and will grip the needle without as much pressure. I hope this helps. And yes I'm super excited to make another video. 😁 Happy beading 🙌🙌

This has been one of the best videos, if not the best in showing all the elements of two needle beading. I think the pace, the language and the clear video/angle has really helped with the content you share. Im curious tho. With this style, on a larger piece, say one you will stitch onto a purse or something is too large to hold in your hand like the example. How do you get the right grasp that allows you to get good tension of the beads and thread? Ive seen some people use hoops or other frames that help stabilize the perimeter but it doesnt work if the whole piece if beaded. Like, how would you use this method when doing large areas for regalia and such? How would you stabilize or weight the piece down when your (lead thread) hand cant read the beads?

Also, I have seen a method where you come through the beads to tack down. Is that going to make my beading more uniform? I noticed when I use this method in your video I am noticing a few gaps between beads and you can see the tacking thread slightly. I may be using the wrong thread. I am using .20 Fireline which I use for bead weaving hoping it would be suitable. 😋 Thanks for all your tips. Your videos are awesome.

Mona, I just discovered your channel and wow what a gem! No pun intended. I’ve always known how to embroider and sew since I was about 6-7 yo. About 10 years ago I picked it up with sincere dedication. So many people and strangers want me to make them something beaded that I’ll never have time to complete them all. I digress...I’ve collected (and this is not a joke-between 300,000 and 500,000 of just seed beads. I have thousands of Venetian glass and many varieties of trade beads.) I shared only to ask what size beads you use. I tend to use 22/0 down to 15/0 if I love the color or shape. Also, could you recommend an extremely thin, strong thread to fit the sizes I gravitate towards? What got me on this track was the way you simply picked up the beads etc. my needles are the thickness of a human hair and discerning size, exact color has lead me to wear a jeweler’s headband with magnifiers and light plus I have to wear my reading glasses. Do you have any advice to lessen the strain and stress? I love it and I particularly love the tiny, antique old beads. One more ?, I bought deer skin that feels like butter but I have NO idea how to bead them. Plus, size needles, etc. I’ve run those thin needles clear through my thumbs, etc. and it gets old. If I use a thimble it breaks the needle and silicone one just poke through. Guess that’s enough for now. No two are alike! Ty in advance. I’m hoping you’ll take pity on me and point me in the right direction. I’ve taught myself everything so far! I just subscribed and obviously have a lot of catching up to do. 😍🙏🏻🙌🏻👏🏻

I wish I could give you advice about the micro beads. After 10 yrs of consistent beading I've just bought myself size 16 beads. I haven't even had a chance to use them yet. I would suggest using size 0. As for beading on leather I think with the needle being so small it should pass through. Might just have to experiment. Sorry if i wasn't more help

Mona, I am so enjoying your tutorial videos! I am new to beading and am fascinated by the beauty and relaxation that comes with this art form. Thank you so much! I'll leave a question if I may - when you mention "colouring in your colours so you don't see any white (of the stabilizer)" - what do you colour the white with? Another bead? Thread? Thank you!

I usually color the paper underneath. Sometimes if I'm using really dark beads I'll use colored nymo thread

Is there a reason you don’t just use the same beaded thread to go back and tack down the row of beads? I’ve seen that technique done before with no issue and wonder why others use the two needle technique? I haven’t developed a preference for any one technique yet and am still watching videos and learning before I get started.

do you have any tips on threading tiny bead needles? I like traditional sinew because you can separate off tiny thin pieces and it goes right into the needle but of course it is not practical the nymo is easier and more affordable/available... real sinew is pricey for me to order online..sorry for so many comments ...I hope you don't mind answering my questions?

I usually pinch the thread in between my fingers and the very tip is out makes threading easier
