@@TeddyBaldassarre I have the Presage 'Negroni' cocktail watch and it also has a dial that is drop-dead beautiful in person. Seiko's Presage line has some really high-end finishes (the enamel and porcelain dials are exquisite, and the Presage does offer the Spring-Drive on some high-priced models).

I have the Tokiwa green Sharp Edge and it is so beautiful it hurts! Far more entertaining than the non-offensive, middle of the road Tissot. Collectors want watches that evoke emotion and a connection to something special - this head to head is a no brainer. I got 25% at my AD so my Seiko was cheaper than the Tissot, too!

Owned them both! Tissot in black though. Both amazing. The Seiko is as close as you can get to a GS for the money and the case and dial are incredible. The Tissot yes slightly better in movement but more difficult to service. The lume In real life is much better on the seiko. This is the hardest decision in this range....hense I bought them both!

I've had the Tissot Gentleman for 8 months now and I absolutely love it. Accuracy is outstanding. Out of the box -1.7 seconds per day, but after wearing it daily for a few months, it has become even more accurate. From 15th of december to 28th of february -7 seconds. That's just insane! Maybe I just got lucky who knows. Teddy, your videos are fantastic!

I own both of these, but the Seiko in the white dial and the Tissot in the black. They're both really great watches. There are a couple of noteworthy things that the video doesn't mention. The indices and border around the date aperture on the Tissot are finished remarkably well. The indices sit rather tall and give the dial a lot more depth and a more premium look. That's not to say the indices aren't good on the Seiko, they're certainly a step up from what you'd find on a Sarb, for example. The next thing is the dual deployant clasp on the Tissot works really well and the watch wears really comfortably and the flush look of the bracelet where it comes together is really great. Again, the Seiko's clasp is better than what you see on a Sarb or a comparable model, but it's not quite as good as the Tissot. The Tissot is a finger print magnet. The sapphire, the bezel, the polished center links pick up tons of finger prints. The Seiko, with more brushed surfaces and a flat sapphire does a lot better in this category. Finally, the Seiko's super hardened coating seems to be working well. I've had the watch for a little over a month now and normally I would have picked up some swirl marks from my desk on the clasp or the outside of bracelet, however, the watch still doesn't have a single scratch on it. If I had to choose one of these watches to keep, I'd keep the Tissot, but if I wound up with the Seiko I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

I just purchased the Tissot Gentleman and I’m simply blown away at the quality. It looks amazing in person and I’ve already received a dozen compliments. I’ve spent easily 5 times as much on other watches and have never had an automatic keep such accurate time. There has only been one worry I’ve had with the watch so far - when hand winding the crown will sometimes become stiff and I can hear the rotor spinning a bit. Probably nothing, but I hope this doesn’t affect the movement. Overall, this is my dream watch and I don’t want to take it off.

I love the Gentleman. I had the blue dial, but needed a silver dial to add to my watch roll. I went to my AD, thinking the Aqua Terra would knock my socks off, and it just didn’t. I bought the silver dial Gentleman and pocketed the $4000 savings and I’m super happy with both of them. A BB36 blue dial and a BBBB and I’m done for now. I am in the exact position of choosing one of these two watches, slightly inclined for the Seiko after seeing this video. Why? While the Tissot has the silicon hair spring, Seiko comes with the proprietary SPRON 610. Both are antimagnetic, elastic and resistant. I couldn’t find any article comparing both, but for sure the two watches are aligned with the antimagnetic trend. Both are made of 316L stainless steel with the Seiko coming with the added hard coating layer. Yes this protects against scratches, and I have read favourable reviews on the web about it, but have two downsides: adds to the cost of the watch and when they scratch polishing is possible, but difficult. The guilloche type of dial of the SPB167 also adds to the cost, so it comes to appreciating it or not. I do appreciate as, I suppose, Teddy does. When buying a mechanical watch precision is not that important. What one has to have in mind is the manufacture’s specification and if this specification suits your requirements. I found a little misleading the comparison provided in this video, because two different instances of these watches could turn out completely different. Statistically this comparison is said to be anecdotal. I will be happy with either watch. I can understand the difference in price (a small difference at the manufacturer can turn out in a substantial one when factoring in margins up the distribution chain ) and appreciate aesthetically Seiko’s timepiece. Thanks for the video!
@AverageBros
@AverageBros 3 года назад
Nice one Teddy, I have both and I would mention that the Seiko does have a Spron 510 mainspring, which is also non-magnetic but arguably more durable than silicium
@emilarpi345
@emilarpi345 3 года назад
....commendable, while all that matters it's the hair spring, which is Silicium made at the Tissot. And how is the durability known since the silicium entered just few years back. Considering it is a nanotech material made of homogeneous Cristal lattice and virtually zero corrosion, I'd put money on Si.

A fascinating comparison, and honestly much closer than I expected. The Tissot is my preference, but I can definitely see the Seiko being the better choice for some. I think it comes down to four factors; design, movement, fit and value. I think design goes to the Seiko. There are more than a few people that use photos of the Tissot Gentleman to treat their insomnia; for those people the much more interesting dial, case and bracelet of the Seiko is a big plus. I also appreciate that the date window matches the dial on the blue dial (the date matches on both black dial variants); the white date on the Tissot was almost enough to push me towards the black dial at first. That said, the sunburst blue dial on the Tissot looks beautiful in person, and I prefer the hand/marker design. Point to Seiko. Fit is entirely subjective, and therefore a draw. If you have smaller wrists (

I do have the Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80 Silicium, so asking which one I prefer, is obvious, I think :) However, some remarks about your comments: the 80.811 is the ETA movement C07.811, not the C07.111 (which is in the e.g. Tissot Le Locle). The C07.811 means that the movement has a silicon hairspring AND a standard pallet fork with rubies (in contrast with the C07.111, which has a completely synthetic pallet fork). About regulating the Tissot: it's not necessary to remove the balance wheel to regulate the watch. Nevertheless, I would not recommend a non-watchmaker to make the attempt: the balance wheel needs to be supported while regulating the watch and you need a decent timegrapher to get the two regulating weights in a symetrical position in relation to the center of the balance wheel. PS. I'm not a watchmaker myself; what I say here was told to me by my watchmaker (who runs a Tissot authorized service center).

Both watches have slowed-down movements (3 Hz instead of 4) for the sake of longer power reserve. I'd sacrifice a few hours of PR for a faster beating caliber. This would not necessarily make the watches more accurate but it would make the seconds hand sweep smother. And the sweeping second is what makes an automatic so much more appealing than a quartz watch.
@benzo-diazepine
@benzo-diazepine 2 года назад
I guess you could say there are pros and cons to a faster beating movement. A slower one has mechanical parts that "move" less so it will end up needing less repairs throughout the course of its existence. After a while you get used to how the hand sweeps. Unless you've had a grand seiko with a spring drive you'll hardly be able to tell the difference btw 28800 and 21600

@@Ab01-p6p why not? I got the everytime and the powermatic 80 in blue. Now I got a tag Heuer F1 caliber 6 watch all with steel bracelets and thats my collection so far. Everyone I've shown them to has thought they were extremely amazing in every way and they say they look beautiful. What's wrong with tissot for starting out? Nobody wants seiko lol thats what everyone tries to go for when they know nothing about watches and when they do like you they bash on tissot. Whats wrong with tissot bruh lol I get they aren't omega or grand seiko or even Rolex or Tudor but come on man don't be like that lol

I love my powermatic 80 from tissot in blue and the steel bracelet. It looks absolutely beautiful in real life. Go to a speedway at night time and while your pumping gas take a look at the tissot watch on your wrist and watch that baby shine like the bell of the ball. Thats how amazing that watch looks. It fits perfectly and the crown is substantial. I'm guessing you bought one the same time as me lol. What do you think of it?

These two watches have been on the top of my "Next Watch List". Now, if I had the $1000 to spend, I'd probably lean for the Seiko strictly because of that dial. It's a real attention-grabber. The finishing, as I remember, uses some techniques that gravitated from the Grand Seikos, and the bracelet, each link is composed of five individual pieces. However, I also gravitate towards the Tissot because of the movement and the price, but I have a small wrist so the slightly larger case is a negative. Either watch would be great, the Seiko maybe leaning towards slightly dressier.

Seikos are great for dials even in budget category. But the Tissot Gentleman blue dial is so versatile. And the tissot being an upmarket brand is surprisingly the cheaper one.... So my pick is going to the Tissot Gentleman, for sure.

I would say the Ball Fireman Enterprise as that can be bought for the same price as the Presage. Furthermore it has 904L steel, tritium tubes and a far better strap. The Ball 1103R (ETA2824-2) is also a solid performer which is easy to maintain.

I am actually just right now considering buying the Tissot. I saw the quarz version of the watch and loved it. The price is 350 US more or less giving the exchange rate. So I startet looking online and found out about this version of the watch. And I am absolutely willing to pay the extra. The diference in quality are really worth it. I think I might get myself a nice birthday present.

There are so much variety and options at 1000 price point that blows seiko out of the water. Doxa sub 200, mido oceanstar tribute, yema field( excellent dial, and my god hand wound movement is a heaven to look at) with strap, christopher ward etc

Teddy your videos are always first class. I particularly enjoyed your presentation on how Millennials reacted to watches. Very interesting responses from them and very revealing. I appreciated the way you were patient with their lack of knowledge and I think you converted a few away from their cell phones. I have a friend who could be your doppelganger and it's uncanny. He's your age group and a very successful aviation parts supplier. You two are pretty impressive and I appreciate you both. Lots of talent and bright future for both of you. Finally a brilliant you tuber who isn't showing how to cook ribs for the millionth time.

I just got the Tissot, but went with the quartz version. It was a tough call, but in the end I traded away an antireflective crystal for a thinner profile (8.5 vs. 11.5 mm.) So far, no regrets, and given the price, I'm seriously considering buying a second, dressier version to complement the more casual look (blue dial, brown leather strap) of the one I'm now wearing. My daily watch up to now has been a '50s vintage Oyster Perpetual, but having it serviced costs than I spent on the Tissot. It's a family heirloom, so I'm not sure what to do with it... maybe I'll dump it on my daughter and make it her problem. 🙂

I got the Tissot a few days ago. It's my second automatic and first swiss watch. Awesome watch with beautiful blue dial! The choice between this Tissot and the Seiko may be hard, but as well the design(in my opinion) and price talk for Tissot. So I think I made the right decision. I already plan to get another Tissot.

I truly like the simple design of the Tissot. I don't have one in my roster of watches and this one seems to be a good one to have as an entry-level luxury watch. Thanks for your insight ... you mostly made good points for both therefore made it more difficult for me to pick one 😉 Thanks for sharing.

The SPB167 has a very interesting dial and a more elegant bracelet. I am a longtime fan and owner of Tissot and Seiko, but in this case the overall proportions of the Gentleman seem more balanced to me.
@RudyVisuals
@RudyVisuals Год назад
I have owned the SPB165 which is the white dial variant and although I love the look of the watch, the 6r35 movement is very erratic. Some days it will lose over a minute a day, others it will gain +3 seconds and it is really frustrating. I know I can get it regulated but definitely something people should be aware of before considering a Seiko with this movement.

Great comparison. For me, they are very evenly matched, with the price difference pushing the decision toward the Tissot. Would you please consider doing a video of similar type watch but in $1000 to around $2000? Another video idea, top 3 tool and diver (every day wear) watches. Emphasis on tough and robust movment watches at different price ranges. For example the omega diver 300 - I would expect it to be the best everyday wear watch in that price category? Or is there a more robust diver for the same price?

Tissot is a really solid deal, but at this price range I’d err on the side of interesting and fun... I got the green version at about 680 on the grey market... love it
@passion4watches98

Killer deal at that price - green is the best variant of this watch it kills me that the blue dial obsession forced a comparison of the colder version of this watch. The asanoha hemp pattern was meant to be green.

I would probably just go for the Tissot because it is a little more watch for the money movement-wise, I like the dial a little better (although it isn't as decorated) and the brand name is probably more interesting for the money as well. Idk about value retention for each, though. Also, id love to see videos about where you get your clothes from, Teddy. You always look sharp!

I've contemplated both, but haven't pulled the trigger on either. What kills me on the Sharp Edge Seikos is that you can get the SARX055 for around the same price, but you get a titanium case and an interesting but more subtle dial aesthetic.

@racing7782 3 года назад
Great video! Thanks. I loved the opinion on the Tissot dial as "less threatening". The Tissot has a much sober dial than the Seiko hence I would incline to a sober design, its less risky of getting boring. Your SARX045 would be a better option to compare it with. In general I find sober/classic designs better as, one get less tired of them. Innovative designs generates an initial hype but eventually you lose it and shortly you just change the product for a newer innovative design. WDYT?
