Watching this from Scotland and sending my love. Such a tragedy when these things happen but those flying were doing what they loved and I hope that’s a very small consolation to all involved. RIP x

This is just so heartbreaking on so many levels. I mean firstly, these poor people in those planes lost their lives in something that should have been a joyous occasion. Secondly, 2 historical planes are now gone. Just terrible. Prayers for the crews and their families.

I was leaving the gym and saw everything. Never watched the airshow before but always heard the planes roaring above my house. Absolutely Tragic, I still can't get it out of my head.

I was in ramstien Germany, At the blue angels air show when to jets had an head on collision. 20+ died I can still smell the burning scents in the air. This just gave me crazy goosebumps.

What I’ve never understood in all my 30yrs of living is how a Mid-collision happens in a civilian capacity with sooooooooo much airspace, I could understand while land but any other situation I just can’t compute? Prayers for all those involved, this shouldn’t have happened.

Why are we having air shows if we are in a climate crisis? We stopped drilling and we are paying high prices for fuel “to save the planet” I DON’T GO HALF THE PLACES I WANT TRYING TO DO MY PART.

Very sad… neither pilot saw it coming. These crews were superior with top of the line training. These were pristine aircraft. The CAF has the best maintained aircraft I’ve seen anywhere including the airlines. These are museum level aircraft that fly for the public. This was an ‘Air Show’ complete with NOTAM airspace (closed) and had an ‘Air Boss’. It isn’t just a title, it means responsibility of controlling all aircraft during the air show. If neither pilot missed a call… someone on the ground is in deep doodoo.

It's not the aircraft and its not the pilots so what is it then genius.

Quite devastating to the entire community. I greatly appreciate the dedication and expertise of all concerned. The loss of the two planes is itself a tragedy but the loss of those very special fliers is obviously of a different order of loss. A very black day. May I offer my heartfelt sympathies to all those affected. May I also take a second to commend the spokesman here in this briefing. I’ve seen and heard many such briefings but rarely seen it done better. What an able man.

It looks like the p63 was moving so fast the pilot couldn't change his flight path fast enough to avoid hitting the B17. I noticed commenters are saying it looked deliberate,? No I'm not buying that. Something happened to that pilot flying the p63.. my prayers to the families for their tragic loss

It almost looks like the single pilot plane deliberately crashed into another plane. He saw the plane was already flying the same direction.

The WWII plane made it through a war and hundreds of missions and then crashes decades later at an air show. Leave it to humans to really screw things up.

There are several videos of the crash...as many watched them pass over head. The P-63? Hit the B-17 right in the middle..shearing it in half. Flying relatively low....as this is an air show. It’s called...”Situational Awareness.” Apparently unaware of his flight path..there were several..all in a gentle left hand turn. This..P-63? Seemed to cut his turn..at a faster speed. And veered into the B-17. Ive watched the..Confederate Airforce for years. They are like sacred keepers of History. They love these planes..know them..inside and out. Sponsored and staffed by all volunteers. It’s our History. Look at the videos. I can to tell you. You look up in pride. And remember those sacrifices and men. Listen to the videos. You can hear them crying..this is a disaster. They can’t believe this. It’s hard to comprehend. They love these planes. Nobody can do a better job. Looks like pilot error. “Situational Awareness”. He struck the plane...no bump.. sheared it. Definitely faster...trying to catch up? Wrong altitude? Medical condition? Minor mechanical failure? Pilot error? Mid air collisions are rare. Oshkosh has the largest..fly in air show. Thousands of planes...antiques...jets..huge cargo planes..helicopters. There all highly organized. Also..they were not doing stunts...a simple fly by. One after the other...nobody going particularly fast...as you want people to see. We shall wait on those that investigate for a living. There..also very good at there job.

I was at the Pikes Peak Regional Air Show earlier this year and saw this B17 fly. I woke up this morning and checked the news on my phone to see and read about this tragedy. My heart broke at the loss of life and history. I keep tearing up when I think about it. I am grateful to the people who fly and their families who support them; to let us spectators enjoy these beautiful aircraft. My prayers are with all.

For this to happen on Veterans Day and also our UK armistice weekend is compounded grief. I offer my sincere & deepest condolences to those aircrew involved and to those immediate and extended family members who are involved. It is a terrible accident and I hope they find the strength they can to cope - I'm so very sorry to hear this today.

I predicted this guy would spend 10 min saying absolutely nothing of any value or consequence. Sure enough, he said absolutely nothing of any value or consequence.

The smaller plane has no visibility underneath and couldn't see the larger plane. The pilot probably never saw the larger plane at all, it was hidden. But of course 99% of the people commenting can't understand perspective because they're only view is from the cell phone footage so they think it's intentional. The same way you can't see your meat when you pee because of your belly is why this plane couldn't see the larger plane. Imagine if you cut a hole in a table and put your head through the hole with the table on your shoulders. You have babies on the floor and you're running at 300 mph, there's a chance you're gonna run into those babies because they're in your blindspot

So sad, the cobra pilot was in a low fast bank and the B17 was in its blind spot. Prayers to the victims, their families, friends and first responders.

Absolutely terrible. Sad how the pilots and crews lost their lives. Terrible to see a B-17 go down. It almost appears the P-63 aimed to hit he B-17 but we won't know until NTSB has time to find out.

Spoke with my friend who's a pilot about this tragedy. He chalked it up to too many planes too close to each other in the air in the same place. Also the view is horrible on the P63, he would have had to look through the floor to see the B17. They both never saw it coming, truly a tragedy.

I feel that the problem is the fly past air traffic control. If you see the fly past in other countries. Each group of aircrafts formation are at least 1-2 minutes away from each other. The fast and slow aircrafts are in different groups. Normally the faster aircraft in the front formation and slower aircraft behind. If the organizer tried to mix all type of aircraft together. It is a big challenge and every pilot involve need to be inform to fly at a specify cruising speed and height to avoid accident like this. Lack of air traffic control at the air show is root cause for this collision.

So so sad… I was just out there for an airline test… met a lady who mentioned commemorative air force she was part of… hope no one she’s connected with❤

That was one of the last B-17 bombers on the planet they've been destroyed to cover up with their originally used for this just looks like a loose end being tied up

i had the volume off the tv, but i saw the collision, terrible. my 1st thought was , that looked like an old B17 and my 2nd thought ,was nobody would survive that crash. i was talking to my mom at the time on the phone, she now lives in clear lake texas and i live in southeast texas. she also at the same time saw it on the news.

B-17s are disappearing too rapidly as only maybe ten are in active flying condition

Why do people do dangerous things? Don't people have better things to do? It's tragic what happened but it has to be on people's minds that bad things can happen.

This break's my heart to see this happen,,, it makes me feel like another piece of our history is gone , and the piolets who died are gone trying to represent our history,
