Ray Nitschke and Dick Butkus appeared in a TV commercial for the first and only time to talk about the Oldsmobile Cutlass. (The lunch bill cost more than the commercial as those guys could really eat!)
Rest in Peace, Dick. He and Ray were a riot during the filming of this commercial. Dick was all professional and knew his lines. Ray was another matter. We all had great laughs with these two immortal Middle Line Backers.
High school in the 60s, coach wanted me to focus on quarterback but all I really wanted was to be Ray Nitschke. God I loved linebacker or what we called monster man. RIP Ray!
When I was a kid the only ones I wanted to watch play was Nitschke, Sayers, and Butkus. What a classic this commercial is. They should have done more things together.
I always thought Nitschke was over looked because of Butkus. Just think if you were a running back in the old Black and Blue Division, one week Butkus the next Nitschke Whew😫
Too nad fa bears didnt capitalize butkus and sayers when they were together. That just shows that football is a team sport where unless you have back up from your mates youre only as good as the rest of them.
