My great grandfather got wounded in 1914 and lost his arm. There was this battle somewhere in Poland that nobody can remember now. It's just industrial slaughter now. RIP great grandpa.
@@iminbreadbutfrench8625 Lol, thanks. It was common for our nation at this time. At the end of WW1 almost every soldier had gone through the previous two wars.
My great grandfather served in the Wermacht WWII on both fronts and survived. He was not a believer of the Nazi ideology, and he was a great soldier. Much respect 🇩🇪❤️💯
My dad told me when he was in Germany he met a old man who had fought in Stalingrad. He was a National Socialist and proud. He needed up getting captured with whats survived of his unit and he end up spending 10 years in Siberia. My dad asked him if he would do it again and smiling he said i would. Many German solider in ww2 where nazis but who cares it was a just politics. It does matter is he is a supporter of hitler or not both can be good soldiers and both can be war criminals.
@@littlejimmy8744 exactly! I don't think any of the soldiers cared about the Nazis at all after a month in combat. They just cared about their fellow men and cared about their own lives as well. "History is written by politicians, not the soldiers who fought the wars..." -Me
@@littlejimmy8744 and also most men didn't give a crap halfway in I bet the Americans didn't care that they were all about "freedom" halfway into the fighting either.
From far away, In mountains deep The night of blood, In twilight sleep The armies fight, For king and queen The will be no No victory The swords collide, With power and force As mighty men, Show no remorse It is the time, The snow is melting It is the time, For reckoning
In memory of John Allen Jones Jr, a US ball turret gunner whose plane was shot down over Germany, spent months in a German-run POW camp, and when he came back, despite the abuse and weighing just over a hundred pounds….only told funny stories of the POW camp, like how they taught the German guards who wanted to learn English ridiculous phrases. Or how when he first got out of his parachute after bailing out of the damaged plane, a very elderly German woman came screaming out of a nearby farmhouse, and kept feebly hitting with a broom as he stood there and smoked a cigarette and waited for the other Germans approaching to take him prisoner. He also was so hungover on a practice jump during basic training in the US, he jumped at the wrong spot (while the instructor was doing a walk-thru of the jump commands before they were at the jump site). They had to send a Jeep into the Arizona desert to find him. He met a pretty young nurse named Katie while in hospital recovering, and were married for about 50 years.
My Grandfather could Not go to war, he was 15, but a Lot of his friends went, some did Not come back. My grandpa stayed here in Brazil working on the industries (yeah, Brazil sent men to italy) although My great grandma is italian, My grandpa was ready to go and defend his country. I pay all respect for all men, from allies Or axis that lost their lifes. 🙌🏼
My Great grandfather was a german "Oberleutnant" and died in russia Edit: They wanted to promote him but he didn't want to leave his comrades alone so he stayed until the very last day and died with most of his comrades
My father fought in the Balkans against the Germans and Italians, 1941-1945 and survived and emigrated to Australia in 1949; his father was killed in a German reprisal killing in 1942. My mum’s dad served in the British Royal Navy and died of wounds at sea in July 1940; my mum who was 11 then remembered the day the telegram came. Without their sacrifices (and the millions and upon millions of others) where would I and we be.
My grandpa served (passed away 2007) once told me that people kept praying like crazy, But he said to me "Thank god when you are dead, But for right now, We got work to do" TBH I LIKE THAT LINE
My grand grandfather was a russian pilot in ww1 and ww2 but in ww2 we lost him but the military tell us tha they lost him with his aircraft and nobody knows where is he or he is dead..
My grandfather fought in ww2, he was awarded 2 '3-star' swords of the Japanese captains he killed down there in the jungles. He killed them with a dagger and a rifle while being on a night's watch on a British troops camp. We still have those swords in our possession.
The Japanese THEN committed some very bad atrocities, they were horrendous. But the present generation weren't there at the time. They are not responsible for what happened. However, the Japanese youth of recent years have not been taught (in schools etc.) about what went on in WW2, many of the country's leaders, and older generation, are still in denial.
the german wehrmacht deservs more respect, they where good and brave soldiers wich where forced to fight for the wrong leaders, in their hearts they didnt fight for hitler....they fought for germany, for their home, for their family and for freedom....SO MUCH RESPECT TO ALL SOLDIERS, GERMANS, FRENCHMEN, BRITISH, USA, POLAND, RUSSIA, JAPAN....ALL OF THEM
My great great grandfather lost his life in 1942. He was in British Indian Army. It is possible that an Italian killed him. But we are friends now. RIP to your grandfathers.
My Great Uncle was a captain in the second world war and was a beach master on Omaha. He went in before the first wave in the attack. He directed the landing on that beach and helped soldiers out of the boats. He was one of the first American soldiers to land in France that day. He also helped land General Patton in the invasion of Sicily and Salerno. He also served in North Africa. On Omaha, he was standing under heavy German fire. Somehow he made it out alive that day. He later served in the Korean War. He served in the Army in WW2, the Coast Guard in Korea, and then served in the Marine Corps, and Navy. He went to VMI and graduated at age 22 and was 35 in 44. After the war, he became a sheriff. Rest in Peace Captain F Perry Williams.
My great grandfather was in the Wermacht in World War II. He was drafted. He served and survived on both fronts. The war left my grandfather a refugee. He died a couple years ago a rich and successful businessman. 🇩🇪❤️💯
One of my grandfather was an officer who fought for our country’s independence. My other grandfather, who was an orphan, wanted to fight also, but my grandmother did not let him go, telling him that she does not want my father to be orphan as was my grandfather. They both passed away during these last 2 years. The grandparents of all of us did amazing deeds. We did nothing compared to that.
My great grandfather was apart of the joint Canadian and American Red Devils. He could’ve died on Juno had he not been injured in combat previously, just like many of his brothers in arms did that day. He lived up until only a few years ago. I wish I could’ve spoken with him as I have such a respect for history, but like many he was very reserved after the war.
My 4x Great Grandfather fought in the Battle of Waterloo, Peninsula Wars and the War of 1812, Great Great Grandfather served on the front line in WW1 and my Great Grandfather served in the Royal Navy during WW2 aboard HMS Ajax, then my Grandfather fought during the Aden Emergency in the British Army (REME) and fixed broken down vehicles in the field while being shot at by insurgents (all of them survived their conflicts but did lose siblings / cousins) I am currently in the process of joining the Royal Air Force - hopefully we never see war on this scale again, but we must always be prepared for the worst. (Fun fact, going back even further - Oliver Cromwell, the man who overthrew the King of England during the English Civil War and abolished the monarchy is also my 11x Great Grandfather)
As a tirailleur in the foreign legion, my great great father died in Europe during the great war. We never knew how he got killed, and my family never got the chance to take him back to our familial tomb. For malagasy people, if you can't rest with your family, you can't meet your ancestors in the afterlife. There's nothing sadest than that. Hope he and all those who fought in other's wars may find the way back to their beloved

"If i die, tell my sister i wont be coming to her wedding If i die, tell my father i did my best If i die, tell my friends i wont be coming to hang out with them If i die, tell my mother not to cry Because i am a soldier born to die" -A short poem from a soldier
Well there is a reason that they're called "The Greatest Generation" that ever lived. It doesn't just refer to Americans. But all who fought in the World Wars. Even the Nazi's. Its why they were so difficult to defeat. Many things can be learned from those wars, and one of those things is the power of belief. Both Germany and Japan Believed in their causes. At the time though... I think the United States also had the belief of morality. We believed in doing what was right. Not for political ideology, or power grab, or territory. But belief in doing what is right for people, and the voiceless, the repressed. I think the Allies won because of love. The Nazis lost because of their hate. As for Japan, I think they lost, not because of hate, but of fear. The Emperor had little choice but to surrender. Either fight to the last man woman and child, and lose a culture and nation that has much to be proud of. Or surrender with the knowledge that there is a chance of continuing to thrive, but sadly knowing a great change in culture would happen. But that's just my romantic and VERY simplified version of the ends of those wars and the humanity of it. Just opinion, and not based on any fact or reason. What do you think?

Your leaders told you it was for the greater good. Your leaders told you it was glorious. Your leaders lied. My father-in-law was in Normandy in 1944 on the beach. He spent the night next to a dead comrade under fire from the Germans. I can only imagine what those poor Ukrainians are going through as they walk through minefields, waiting for the drone-led deadly accurate Russian Artillery to strike at any second.
Could somebody make a list of all the awesome movies or shows that were used in this video? I recognize some parts but a lot are new for me and i wanna check them out. I thank you in advance.
My friends grandfather was in the top 10 pilots for imperial Japanese navy he said he shot down 22 American and 5 British but he also said every time he shot them down he respected these lives to risk theirs to protect their own
No matter what country mothers lost son’s, wives lost husbands, children lost a parent. War usually affects everyone. One WW2 pilot in a documentary said, “theirs nothing glamorous about war.” My Dad landed on Normandy and was wounded then sent back after he recovered. He said he saw a lot of men die and a lot destruction. He never wanted any of his children to ever see the things he saw.
My grandfather participated in the battle of nanking, he was one of the few to make it out alive, going on to fight in Burma(myanmar) as part of the Chinese Expedition forces
Beautifully edited. Enjoyed the cinematic mix, nice touch. Not sure but the German general at the end appears to be Field Marshall Ervin Rommel. Well played sir, well played. Subscribed
That Verdun was a real meat grinder literally...I would never have my kid go into the military regardless of how much hype, money, or honor there is. There is no honor worth dying for. There is too much to live for. You only have one life, and you are risking it for some metal pin on your collor or your name engraved on some concrete in some park or cemetary. No thanks!
My great grand father was a Black Shirt service in Ethiopia and Libya during Ww2 against english troopa, otherside the other my greatd grand father was a Yougoslavian Partisan who take part to the liberation of Slovenia and Triest
I hate Japan they attack my country because of the rubber and oil like cmon why (malaysia) and Chinese don't u hate them but now I forgive then just one reason they apologized to our soldier i forgive him *salute*
Guys walkin and still shooting while on fire.. that is what a true warrior is I Don't fear death boys, I rejoice, for today... I go to heaven. - a german trench soldier.
What could my grandgrandfather was the man who fled Serbia when the news of the Archduke's death broke . And in my family, the military has been limited to the major.
