Jody awsome review. Your honesty is appreciated. Enthusiasts can watch your reviews and get a REAL perspective. I hope Boldr appreciates your honesty. CHEERS!!!
Just a fun fact: Muonionalusta (the place where the meteorite was found) is located in Sweden but the name is actually Finnish as the place close to the Finnish border. Your pronunciation was quite good but in Finnish the stress is always on the first syllable so if one remembers this it helps to pronounce the long words. So it's MUOnionalusta.
£640 here in the UK, and the black blue bezel seems nicer to me than the complexity of the meteor and city... Another great review (best intro greeting on YT) so thank you....
Hey Jody - great review. I've actually bought the earlier version (polar dial, non meteor) on the mesh and love it (automatically gets rid of both your strikes). Two things I'd add - the mesh Boldr supplys is brilliant, one of the best I've used, but you are right, this watch on mesh is really really heavy. Also, while a swiss movement is good and the GMT is better, I wish it was a jumping local hour not gmt hand (which is the same strike as 95% of other affordable GMTs).
I have a bad expererience with BOLDR QC too. My carbon Odyssey ran more than 30 seconds slow when I got it. That is out of spec for an ETA 2824-2 so my dealer (Serious Watches) replaced the movement. This watch was a very limited edition (33 pieces in either red, blue or green) so I was very disappointed that they didn't give it a bit of extra attention. BOLDR reacted quickly to a chat message on Facebook, promising to up their QC. Very happy with my other BOLDR, an Expedition, and the service from Serious Watches so I won't stop buying BOLDR watches.
Good job Jody, as stated below we appreciate your honesty. That being said for roughly $800 Boldr should have it's shit together. Good looking dial and good size, but not paying that much. I did appreciate the Rolex poke. Holy Sh%t! 😂😂😂
Not only is this a hideous mess, "Dacca" (on the bezel) became "Dhaka" in 1982. Add that to the inaccuracies re dive depths and it seems that Boldr's QC is best summed up as "we dont give a shit". They wont be getting any of my coin any time soon......
Brilliant!"Getting frustrated, getting angry" It's called being in your 50,s! Grumpiness sneaks up on a man with little pre warning! It was you however that got me back into Casio and my little Mrw200 h still my most enjoyable little mistress! Cheers,Len.
Cracking review as always, Boldr doesn't appeal to me as a brand but I always love hearing your feedback on pieces even when I know I have no intention of ever considering one. Don't you dare ditch the 033, it'll break your heart I'm telling you! Have a great one fella.
Great honest review. I have a diver with a fitted rubber strap that is also a bear to get on. I think it has to do with being fitted (obviously) and the clip that goes over the case (see at 3:47). It is hard to align and still fit in the spring bar tool. But if you sent it to me I wouldn’t send it back 🤪.
I really like this one. Ive always wanted a Meteorite dial watch. This one ticks my boxes. The misprint wouldn't bother me at all, as long as the movement is accurate and it wears great on the wrist. Still great job to Boldr. Thanks again for a great review. Jody
Hellooooo..just never get tired of your greeting 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼 Great informative video, shame to see they didnt get the right case back, very silly oversight. Lovely watch none the less although a bit too big, will be keeping my eye on the Zealos for this style with a meteorite dial and GMT Thanks again Jody
Once again, my respect for the PRECISE disclosure of sponsored/promoted/etc content situation. Some other channels quickly mention that they "got this watch sent by the company" which does NOT explain if it was a gift (form of payment) or they were still paid on top of everything. Everyone should do it the way you do it 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Not a huge fan of the dial, but that's just my opinion. Not a bad looking watch otherwise, and I really do like what BOLDR has to offer. The Expedition is a fantastic watch that I'll end up getting for the collection in the future.
Great review Jody, I agree with the water resistance numbers. Nobody is heading to down to bottom of the ocean, their mainly just taking a dip in the pool. I still kinda find them a tad over priced unless they just speak to you and you just gotta have that look.
$800 USD... I don't know who would be the market for a watch like this. GMT watches would have been great in the 50s and 60s when they were the only tech of the day to quickly calculate timezones. But given our pocket computers are most often our overseas communicators as well, I don't see these functions as much more valuable than a moon phase. On top of all of this, there's no heritage in BOLDR so all they can rely on is a pure value offering. Does any one want this strapped to their wrist? I'm sure every viewer out there could think of a better way to spend $800 USD on something watch related (and therein lies the fundamental problem for BOLDR).
Well done review. Again I VERY MUCH appreciate and respect how forthright you are in disclosing the watch was given to you for review. I also respect you pointing out the faults of the piece. I like the watch!
The grip around the bezel looks very very similar to the Phoibos Great Wall. And since both came out around the same time, I can't help but wonder if the founders dicuss these stuff or it's mere innocent coincidence.
Agree with your overall tone on the two strikes. At $899 USD, they'd bug me. That's an expensive watch for me. I don't expect perfection, but these would cross my "not OK" threshold at that price point. For a much cheaper watch, if the band was comfortable and stable once on and the watch tested out (never had it done, but I've been told watchmakers can do it routinely) as 10 ATM water resistant or better, I'd be OK in the long run if I liked the watch on the whole.
I thought you said that we can't have see thru casebacks on these divers! :D Btw Aliexpress say they're having a big sale soon surely you can find us a watch deal that will sooth us! :D
@@JustOneMoreWatch Yes, it makes your reviews much more interesting with those close-ups. I know what you mean. A few years ago I bought a DSLR camera and the lenses are very costly. I got a good deal on the camera but I did not know the lenses cost so much. Was kind of a shock. I really appreciate the hard work you do to make quality videos. Take care.
Wow Jody, you've pointed out some howlers for an over £500 watch, which to be honest, wont be found on cheaper less 'fashionable' asian brands! Boldr need to up their game for that price, ETA 2893 are popular models at the mo, shopping for one myself, have decided to bite the bullet and build one myself!
The water resist discrepancy is probably due to this version having a clear case back and the other version having a solid case back, clear case backs can’t stand the save level of pressure as a solid one
The strap is a bit of a disappointment, but the printing error just make me laugh. Love the case shape, but would prefer it a bit smaller even for my 8" wrist... This said, I‘m going to spend my money on another Bifora to complete my vintage collection 😇 Got one of their extremely rare 1160 Divers yesterday...
Like the blue one but take out the Swiss ETA and its a £150 - £200 squid watch. Bang in the Seiko NH35 and it would be a hell of a lot sellable. (is that even a word?)
I own the Boldr Odyssey Meteogrey. Those meteor dials really are beautiful to look at. It's also a chunky beast. Fortunately I'm in the 8"+ wrist range. Another great review Jody. I've probably spent enough to equal that Rolex since I began watching your channel so your money saving claim is up for debate 😁
I agree with you that for the price their qc should be better ; but I LOVE ! pilot style watches and would wear it proudly if you don't like it enough to keep it , and want to give it away to a good home !
Check out Zeno. Swiss made, sapphire, and they make some great dual purpose diver/pilot watches that can be had for relatively low prices. I have one as my daily wear watch and it is built like a tank.
A good looking watch. But too big, even on your 7” wrist (the same size as mine) I like the faceted case design, reminds me of GS sport chronos. Even though they’re too large too. The mismatched depth rating and spring-bar issues are a bit off putting though. A watch at this price or any price really should not have those issues. Makes me question the QC of this brand. But if they fix those issues going forward and maybe release a slightly smaller version, I might be interested.
@@JustOneMoreWatch Thank you jody. I would have got it at the introductory price. Still a decent price at $900ish. That's inline with what swatch charges for hamilton/tissot GMT's.
I hope they're buying Swiss movements because the Chinese clone of the ETA 2893 (ST 1812) is pretty good and is available for well under $100USD in the very nice Parnis GMT. Their parts are interchangeable and they can be serviced and regulated by any competent watchmaker.
Actually a quite attractive watch. The water resistant error is not acceptable, imho. Would like to see you actually pressure test these watches. Perhaps a device to test this on your shopping list?
Great dial, GMT ring and hands, big fan of those. Bezel is fine but I'd prefer a more traditional style of edging. Case is a big no from me, it's like a Samurai (which I also don't like) without the refinement. Might consider it for $400/$500 if it had a different case but at c.$800 I'd rather save up and buy something like a Longines GMT.
Jody...what’s the other watch featured at the end of the video? I quite liked the look of that 🤓 I must have missed this review...bronze by the look of things 🤔 Great stuff as always.
Errr, I’d say it would be a dealbreaker for that amount. Regardless of liking the watch or not. I can live with Seiko’s misaligned bezels sure...but that dial screw up and the fitting issue at that price? I don’t know Jody, I just don’t know 🤔
Personally I think that especially on a limited edition watch the mistake on the dive rating is unforgivable! And using a bent spring bar, no just no, surely it’s more likely to pop out!
I have the Batman Version. I really like it. However, they should off shipped it with the strap attached in a case that could be used for storage. You need to buy a case to hold it, and a watch roll won’t work with this strap. I would not consider $900 cheap for a watch. It might be a great value at the price, but $900 is still a lot for something you really do not need. As many already know, Selitta has cloned this movement, known as the SW-330. I have seen it in some GMTs already.
Are there any inexpensive (I'm not going to say cheap) yet decent quality and movement globetrotters style watches with that cool style of bezel? Granted this is significantly lower than the Rolex so it is all relative I am sure.
Awaiting your review of Tissel open heart. It is such a classy dress watch with Roman numerals and flinque dial similar in shape to Blancpain villeret. Blued hands Bregeut style. Mirror Polished case with rounded profile. 90s5 Myota 28800beat per hr.All for $205
Deal breakers... Especially at a $500+ price point. The strap is borderline unacceptable, because I could use a different strap. The depth rating oversight is flat out unacceptable. Great video and review. Edit: Dacca has not been called Dacca in over 30 years. However it's still on the dial, on this 2019 model.
Aww man, love your videos BUT im broke again, al theese groovy watches you made me buy, i could have just went and brought a wolex! But its been fun, so much fun.. first it was a chinese special then a copy of a seiko thena realw japanese rolex, then a chinese seamaster with a japaness auto movement , then a japanese rolex with a swiss movement, then yada yada, my latest is a steinhart gmt...so almost swiss all the way, but my mum says she got german in her and now ive got some swiss germanwatch action, i talk to much..., what ever love your vids
This is something I was thinking about recently. I've been considering a Nomos Worldtimer but I was put off at the low water resistance rating when I realised...I've never gotten a watch wet in the last 15 years of wearing one every day when outside. Think if you can afford some insurance for you watch that covers water damage, throw water resistance ratings to the wind if it's not a diver etc
What makes it expensive is the name of this damn channel... There’s always just one more watch! I’m up to probably 9 this year alone... it’s only $75 to $450 each time in my case but the whole thing adds up in the long run! We’re getting such amazing value in this range everything above it seems expensive. Especially when a Parnis automatic GMT can be purchased for less than $100. But I feel $800 for this one is not bad value.
Just One More Watch Both. I love your channel but you are the king of $350 and under watches in my view.I have about 40 watches and the most expensive one was $270. About half of them are junk and about half of them are nice. I could not ever force myself to spend more than four or $500 on a watch,And I haven’t done that yet. LOL fun to see,but just too expensive for me.
Rio Riggs Amen.I have about 40 watches but I never spend more than $300. I bought some throwaway for $50 or so I’ve got some good ones for $50 or so. I try to stick with quartz so I can afford a lot better watches. But I have a lot of automatics also. Some guys drink, some guys play golf, some guys fish,my hobby is watches.
Just One More Watch both. I love your channel but you are the king of the $350 and below watch. I have too many watches to pay more than four or $500 for any watch.Keep up the great videos. I like the Japanese watches. Seiko, Oregon, citizen,Casio. Thanks
I like the dial and the bezel with world time. I wouks have like the bezel better if they had done a solid matte black coin edge grip. I'm not a fan of the chunky clumsy bezel.
This or an Orient Polaris GMT for $370? Boldr may have a spec monster here, but I'd bet Orient is able to sync their water resistance numbers from caseback to dial. Love that crowdfunding and cheap Chinese manufacturing has allowed everyone and their mom to have their own watch brands, but you have to wonder about QC, and water resistance claims for these microbrands....
