Duncan Rhodes has brought back Lamenters Yellow & the OOP Citadel Glaze paints! After successfully launching his Two Thin Coats paint range with Trans-atlantis Games in 20-22, thanks to Kickstarter now comes wave 2. I still have a little bit of my glazes left. They are so useful for very specific effects, I'm super sad that I am running out. -Bloodletter: FIRE! Base bright white->solid flash gitz yellow->wash bloodletter->Drybrush blood red. Makes super bright orange glowy fire. -Lamenters: Hair: Base bright white->wash seraphim sepia->wash Lamenters. Makes beautiful golden hair -Blue: Blades/Talons: Base bright white->solid temple guard blue->wash blue. Makes a cool crystal blue effect.

The paint bottles leak due to not being closed even when they feel like it. Once you think its closed, turn it and you'll feel another slight turn to truly seal it

The glaze paints of yesteryear are some of my most cherished paints. I don't use them too often, but what they do is just magic. Guilliman Blue remains my go to for easy plasma guns. It's good to know that a proper replacement is now out there. Just need my local hobby stores to start stocking it as I like to have a look at the bottle before I buy it and I enjoy supporting the local places. The more olive skintones are very interesting to me. I like mixing up the skintones in my Dark Angels a little bit as those guys recruit from all over and probably would look quite diverse under their helmets. So more skintones are always welcome.

I received wave I and II last week and they are amazing. I’m a beginner when it comes to painting and the built in triad color system is a game change for me. Plus the paints are smooth, require very little water to thin down and cover great. To say I’m impressed with this line is an understatement.

On the subject of price. These are barely more expensive than the Vallejo, Army Painter, and AK Interactive paints I usually buy. Actually comparing it to Citadel paints, it looks like the same price for 0.3ml more paint, with mostly perfect colour matching, in dropper bottles, with some extra quality of life improvements. I've ordered my first 14 TTC paints, because I'm sick of dealing with Citadel pots, and quality issues, just to get the colours I can't match in other ranges. I'm hoping in the next wave we get some good pastel colours (Ice yellow PLZ), and gloss washes.

Its also worth noting that the dropper is a perfect funnel for the agitator ball and gets stuck when turned upside down

Great video! I've always believed that 'you get what you pay for' in this hobby of ours. Though I primarily use P3 paints, I have select triads from TTC alongside them, and love them.

If you read safety data sheets you can get away with paying A LOT less for stuff like airbrush thinners for example. You pay for the marketing mostly.

Yup! Been using them since they came out. I love 'em! They are hard to get, but while a lot of stores don't carry them, distributors do, and my local shop is more than willing to stick a pot or two on their weekly order for me.

I use Army painter's paints for my Wargaming models as they are good enough for the job in my opinion. When it comes to scale models which I paint on a competitive level I used to use Ammo by Mig, but since then have moved to Vallejo model air as the consistinacing of the paints across the range is better in both brush & air brush application.

I backed both waves and have them in hand now. I absolutely love this range. The one dud is the gold in the first range. The retributor-like armor colour. I find it hardly has any metallic shine.

Dragon Gold? Yeah it‘s more matt than Retributor but covers very well.

To solve the issue if leaking bottles. Put a little piece of foam in the bottle cap, this will seal the bottle better. It won't solve the issue completely, but it will help a lot preventing spilling paint.

Also, make sure you close it fully. There is a little nub under the cap that is designed to fit inside the nozzle, and I find that as you tighten the cap, you'll feel a bit of resistance as they are lined up. Don't stop there.

Thank you for this review. I am rather late to the 2TC party - I bought wave 1 in retail and I am currently waiting for my wave 2 late pledge to arrive. I agree with you verdict that 2TC is the most consistent good paint range that I know (please mind, I can only speak for wave 1 as of now). I am particularly excited for the glazes since I love to work with thinned contrast-like paints and oil washes for subtle hues and shifts. The bottles are not my favorite either (why oh why did they have to re-invent the wheel here?) but still less of a mess then citadel pots. 2TC will be my main paint range for the forseeable future, supplemented by certain Vallejo Xpress paints, Citadell shades, and various special paints from other manufacturers that have no counterpart with 2TC (yet).

Sounds like a great mix, similar to mine! New Vallejo Game Color, AK 3rd Gen, and ProAcryl also have great non-metallic acrylics to bolster your collection :)

DRPA/Transatlantis didn't actually design the bottles. They're an off-the-shelf product made by Measom Freer, a plastics company in the UK. Humbrol started using them a few years back. I guess they just wanted to keep things UK based, rather than buying stuff from China like other companies do.

Good review, well up to your high standard. Clear, concise and honest. These are expensive and although I'd give them a go I feel for general purpose you can't go wrong with AK's 3rd Gen. These however do match up to our GW palette very easily.

Cheers! AK 3rd Gen are definitely in my top 5, maybe even top 3. So many amazing paint ranges lately, I feel miniature paints made quite a step forward in the last couple of years :)

Leaking and blocked nozzles plagued me. For all the crap GW get about not having dropper bottles the Two Thin Coats bottles didn't impress me. Paints are fine and value for money though.

I have Vampire Fang and Dragon Gold from 2 THin coats and it does exactly that, I think this is a paint range that you cant leave on its side, must always be upright and cleaned tip after every use 1:45

Hey Stahly, is Dread Red identical to to Gal Vorbak Red in person? It seems a little less saturated in the picture.

Pretty much identical, but Dread Red is more matte which looks a bit more flat compared to the more satin Gal Vorbak.

The issue I have with the 2TC range is cost and availability. They're the most expensive of the non-specialist paint lines we have at my LGS! Further, Trans-Atlantis have seemingly had really big trouble keeping up with the popularity of the range, the paints can be as good as they are but its meaningless if you aren't able to obtain stock... Part of the issue with the wave 1 bottles is that they seem to have a "soft shut" position where it feels like the cap is on and no longer screwing down so most people stop, but then you actually need to give it a good turn and it suddenly goes down quite a few more turns and is actually shut.

This is so true. Especially in EU. I don't want to do Kickstarter and stuff. So I have to wait if my dealer of choice picks it up. It's rough to be frank. They sell out so quickly

Valid point, however, TTC paints do have distributors all over the world. Many stores will pick them up, but definitely not all. I know my FLGS probably won’t carry them. But there are some online retailers where I can get them. But it will be a while before I use up all the paints. As for cost, they are cheaper than citadel, but more expensive than a couple other lines but I also think they are better quality than those other lines so the cost is justifiable IMHO.

If you put the ttc paints against ak interactiv 3gen with quality and colors, i feel the ttc are a bit to expenciv for what you get, if it was like one euro cheeper per bottle it would go better in to the marked with simular quality paints thats a lot cheeper

The bottles are hard to squeeze and the screw tip nozzles need to be wiped clean every time or gunk will build up.

Yeah at least one or two paints every time I sit down I have to clean out the cap, just like the beige you were using. Still love the paints but the bottle is the weak points for sure.

Yeah, I don't know why they put that in the comparison chart, it's super off. Always check my hand-painted swatches first, don't trust any digital swatches or comparison sheets.

I love 2TC, but man their bottle design is awful. Stop reinventing the wheel, and use the plain jane Vallejo, MIG, AK, Army Painter type bottle.

Yeah, the new Vallejo Game Color bottles are great. Clear plastic, sodt to squeeze, thicker nozzle to prevent splitting, and made with recycled PET.

As they don't have the ability to make their own bottles, they've simply decided to use an off-the-shelf product from a UK based plastics company.

GW must be PISSED, I think they will still realize that their paints are more accesible for most anyway, but having a 1:1 competitor, with the same paints, probably better cost and better quality in some specific paints can't feel too good.

They aren't better cost, two thin coats paint generally cost quite a bit more then citadel, even if you measure ml to ml

Yeah, 2TC price is kind of the equivalent of buying Citadel paint per ml + dropper bottle + agitator + labour cost to transfer it... So if you were the kind of person who was transferring Citadel paint to dropper bottles, 2TC is basically just saving you time, for a generally better paint.

HMG Paints Ltd? As far as I'm aware, HMG doesn't do the current Citadel line anymore, they're made in-house now.
