Hi bud the wheel was it chrome out the box when u got them? Where they chrome plated or powder coated? How can you tell What type of hoover was that And I think finally that's some bad ass work!!
Great video bud, a couple questions if you could answer them i'd greatly appreciate it. 1. What do you use to hook the wheels through the valve steam hole? 2. Do you have a link for that vac you are using? 3. What do you do about the center cap since a lot are plastic?
I've heard and read that chrome wheels need to be stripped with acid to remove the chrome and then blast off residue and clean with acetone. Or will this method stick due to the smooth surface? Cosmic powder coat has a translucent gold that's almost mirror
Can you feel the tap line after shooting black, or after the clear coat ? Awsome work, im on my 4th yr in moslty do single coats but looking to do more
I am new to this poweder coating buissness and I have a customer. The problem is that I dont know how much to charge that person for 4 rims with 1 color. I want to have an idea on how much to charge thay customer with 2 colors. I also work from my home and I dont know if that changes the pricing.
Tim, have a question? I do little stuff at home and was wondering if you have a earth ground that your negative goes to and then a lead from the earth ground to your part? I tried a second coat today and got all kind of starbursts and turned it way down, I use EZ50.
Mitchell yes I do have a good ground. I have a 16 foot copper rod that I have buried as deep as I can. I ground off of that. I also have a a small funnel on top of it and I will pour water down the hole especially in the summer it helps the ground. Make sure your kv are alot lower on a second or third coat.
A nice gloss powder coat is going to be more durable for sure. The close will help make it easer to clean. A flat or textured finish will hold onto the dust more.
We pre head all aluminum parts. Aluminum is a very porous material and traps alot of crap inside. Pre heating will get ride of alot of that before you apply powder its called out gassing.
I have these same exact wheels.. I wanted them red and black.. And everyone has told me that you can't powder coat chrome wheels without blasting them first.. But.. You did it.. And they look great.. What gives?
The surface of chrome wheels is to smooth. You need to give to powder something to grab onto. I used a little scotch bright and went over the wheels just enough to sort of dull the finish. The trans gold I put on brightened back up. There is a fine line between not enough and to much. Also if you are doing a solid tone over it than it wont matter how sanded they are.
@@broitried4022 there are so many options in guns and ovens. We use the gema optiflex2 and are happy with the gun. Our oven is by powder x and it's been flawless for years.
Been powder coating for just under a year now. I have watched many video on powder coating. I see many people powder coat there wheels cold or room temp. We powder coat our wheels straight from the oven. The finish is just as good if not better. I am very interested in trying the two tone but will need to do that when the wheel is cooled. Do you have any tips for this please? Thanks
Dan Sinikal Sinclair straight from the oven is more durable that's how I atv and SxS rims and parts. I'm pretty curious about that too. Can they be sprayed hot if you heat tape the entire part you don't want the 2nd coat on?
If I wanted to change the color on a powder coated bumper from black to a red ( same color as the restored truck, can I paint over the black with an auto body paint? If so how?
Powdercoat a exhaust down tailpipe inside and out with cool color ....how much to do one for me a 2007 dodge ram 3500 6.7 cummins over the axle down tail pipe I'm ordering a new one right now..use your own imagination ..
Considering he did a translucent gold or “candy” the chrome or a silver base was needed. No need to blast the chrome, even if using a solid color either way. It’ll just cost you more time than is really necessary for the same finish.
You can doesn’t matter you’ll get the same results. When using a translucent you need a chrome or silver to get the candy look or anodized look depending color. You’ll just cost yourself more time for prep if you blast the chrome off. Even if you use a solid color doesn’t matter if you shoot over chrome. Chrome is a very durable base don’t take it off if you don’t have to.
@@jeffreyhinman1397 Nobody's arguing the durability of chrome. You missed the whole point of the question in your long ass response. The reason why chrome is so hard to powder coat over is because it's so hard and smooth nothing sticks to it. You have to Scuff it up or your dumb ass remark about using it as a base for kandy will have the candy flake right off. Go read a book or something.
Hi. I'm getting my rims coated and my rear tire gets really dirty from the chain, so I used to use strong chemicals to clean it off. Now, I'm a little worried that I might ruin the coating if I use strong chemicals, what would you recommend that I can use to remove grease/dirt without damaging the coating. Thank you!
Hi, was reading the threads and noticed you didn't get a reply. I have had several auto rims powder coated and my powder coater told me not to go through drive through car washes (I don't like to anyway) because of the harsh chemicals and possible damage it can cause. I would recommend using WD-40 to remove any grease and simply wipe with a microfiber cloth after using soap to wash the rim. When clean, put a coat of wax in it to help in dirt/grease removal next time, hope it helps. A real good easy to use sealant/wax is mequiar's ultimate fast finish.
I couldn't give you a price with out more details. Size and design of the wheels and. Colors to be used. Feel free to give us a call at adc powdercoating.
I was under the impression if you baked the second powder after the first powder (gold) was cured you would burn the first powder. Did you do a full cure on the black?
I have never had a problem with burning powder even doing 2 or 3 coat process. I do full cures and also partially cured. Alot of it depends on what your doing and also type of powder.
What I'm trying to figure out, is how to handle the wheel itself. I've watched tons of videos, but none show how the wire is connected to the wheel and able to keep it from scuffing the wheel. Most I can see is that it's connected through the valvestem hole, but with what? How? Can someone please help me out with this by emailing me here on my youtube account, please!
So I've been trying to find a video on what materials can and cant be powder coated. Any chance you can do a quick video on what materials accept powder better than others?
The definitely have to be completely clean of all old paint. You cant get good adhesion over old paint. Blasting or chemical stripping is the way to go.
I charge by colors used and time involved in the details. I do wheels starting at only $85 each all the way to over $200 each. Every wheels is different.
wouldnt this have been easier if you did the colors a bit opposite from what you did...? it would have been easier to tape the black off to do gold rather than attempt to clean it off the gold .. idk i powdercoat and just seems a bit much in cleaning for the black :) looks good though for sure man
whasup ADC i have a question i tried to do the same thing 2 tone but after my first color i let it cool off to room temperature but when i try to put my second color the powder does not want to stick it keeps on opening what am i doing wrong please help me !!!!!!! west coast wheel repair in san francisco california your work is badass!!!!!!!!!!!
Most important thing is to make sure you have a good ground especially doing more than one coat. It is easy to get fish eyes and back ionization. Grounding is key.
Hi there. Could letters be powder coated on brake callipers for example by using a vinyl decal mask to powder coat then remove the mask before putting into the oven?
