I chanced upon your book vibrant acrylics at oxford book store, calcutta. Ofcourse bought it. Been using watercolours but somehow wasnt able to gather enough courage to venture into acrylics.i am sure your book will help me to overcome my fear of fast drying mediums. And of course now that i saw your invaluable content, i am overjoyed. Thankyou for sharing your art and techniques with us. We will surely continue making good art. And ofcourse will be buying more of your books.
You are amazing and I owe you, SO MUCH, in regards to my growth as a painter and artist. A buddy of mine bought me your book and when I looked at it, I HATED it. It was everything that I thought was "wrong" about all "contemporary" portrait painters out there. Then, I gave it chance. Eventually..... You COMPLETELY changed my WORLD of painting style. I had held on, for DECADES, to the "realism" monster. My portraits could take MONTHS and 200-300 HOURS of painting time. Now, I spend 2-6 hours on most portraits. The paintings I'm paint now, are 1,000 times better than what I was doing in the past. Why? Because they are "alive" ENGAGING. I have you to thank for that. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Everything he says about realist and loose painting is SO TRUE! It's like he's seeing into my brain. Unfortunately, I haven't got the hang of loose yet.
Thank you very much for keeping posting videos here. I have learned painting by myself for a year to get in Art university. I have looked for this painting style for long, but couldn't find exactly what i need. That's why i started with other styles. I'm so happy to find your book and then your videos. This is exact what i would like to work with. Thank you for sharing your art. It will help me a lot for my study.
Fascinating style.I just bought your amazing book "Vibrant Acrylics" and it's great.Very practical.A picture like this might be my next project. Thanks for the inspiration!
Beautiful and inspirational...! I learned a lot. I'm curious how you keep the paint from drying out in your palette. Do you spray it down regularly or are you working in an extremely humid environment? I've tried similar palettes but it's so dry here in Denver that my paint starts to get thicker and gummier over time.
Hi Leslie, thanks for the message, it's not too humid in my studio so the paint doesn't dry out quickly. You can buy spray retarder that slows the drying time or sprayed over the palette. I just work quick, use a palette with deep wells, place a lot of paint out, less paint dries quicker and penetrate the colours with my brush on a regular basis to avoid a skin developing. I've painted in Italy in the height of summer, with temperatures like that you almost have to water everything down. Hope that helps.
Thanks Jill, sorry I've no idea where in the States you can purchase the palette. You may find it on Amazon or something like it. Failing that a UK art supplier may be able to send one over. Try this link for Ken Bromley Art Supplies www.artsupplies.co.uk/item-radial-sorting-tray.htm
