@@opinionshurt2905 I’ve looked and decided I didn’t need to pour hot water through plastic and add BPA and phthalates to my coffee not to mention the added plastic waste to landfills. I’ll stick to a kettle and pour over filter.

Pro tip: use maxi pads to clean thermal paste. Save your coffee filters and paper towels for what they're intended for.

pretty sure people go for look since it looks better :D people who bought these are aware that they don't need active bp. In fact, 4000 series are already overkill, so they wouldn't need wc :}

Indeed. I have a Bykski waterblock with Active backplate on my 3090 and it makes a world of difference when it comes to memory temperatures. On a 4090 it really isn't needed at all.

@@CaveWaverider I also have a 3090 with the bykski doubleblock. It does wonders for keeping the memory on the top cool. The block is mega chonky, I had to mod my motherboard to get it to fit. And I agree, 4090 does not need active cooling on top; With nothing going on there.

I have this block, and the backplate actual helps. 30c water and 39c gpu temp :) Pretty good delta

Der8auer just posted a video about some shady active cooling solutions to mount on the backplate of the gpu. He tested them with an RTX 4090 and one of them worked. It actually reduced the overall temperature and the GPU hotspot temperature by 4-5 degrees C. A professional solution like EK provides, will definitely show better improvement. It all depends on how much one is willing to spend.

@@Midz350i The only reason I know that is because I watched EK's original showcase video when they first announced these. I'm not sure why they didn't include that in the manual since it could result in users damaging the product. Maybe it's there but I don't see it at quick glance.

I use the expensive minus pad by thermal grizzly. The pink colored with textures.

@@PasiFourmyle The only annoying thing about that kit is the thermal pads. For that price they should have been pre-cut. I had to reopen it again and re-cut them so they don't show on the sides.

@@Midz350i Totally agree, I ended up having to do the same, thankfully I noticed it right when I put the block on and hadn't installed any screws yet. For how much effort they put in to making their stuff nice it would be nice to have the most annoying part of installation also not be a nightmare.

Alphacool Stuff is just great :)

I had purchased an alphacool block and was happy about that at well. Sadly it was broken in shipping and couldn't be replaced. The bykski that I was able to get had uncut pads like ek....just at a much more reasonable price

Creating temperature delta on applications are dangerous on sensitive materials. You gotta let the chip cool down to room temp after removing the heatsink. Application wise there might be no harm but technically anything heating or cooling fast are prone to internal cracks.

You also have to count that EK innovated with this, and Bykski just came and copied it. Innovating costs in design and R&D money. Not counting the support you wont get from Bykski.

Yeah thats what happens when you shove... What equates to half a horsepower of wattage through a sliver of plastic.

Him not explaining to remove film from pads was a big oversight tho. So far from perfect.

having installed over 50 water block in my "career" i can say with confidence that one of the sides of EK thermal pads are a absolutely NIGHTMARE to remove. i always order Thermalright Odyssey anytime i have to assemble a Water-cooled system . Also @Bpro He might be reviewing it in exchange of getting it for free

@@statusqo1 as a someone who used EK Stuff for almost 20 years, it is really infuriating those pads are not pre-cut and have this stupid, almost unremovable film on one side, especially for the premium that EK charges compares to other manufacturers.

Marvellous stuff , I've bought 4. So its porridge for the next couple of months. However, I will now be cool on both sides.

Top and bottom part sides of the central chip? Where exactly are you talking about. I saw him put a thermal pad directly behind the chip. Where else should he put a pad? Curious because this is exactly how I placed pads on my 3080 with an active backplate.

Single use 500$ block. I see no point. Custom wc is already expensive for small benefit so its only worth to put money in it cause you can keep loop for years while cpu's/gpu's/mobo's are becoming obsolete and swapped.

Remember, the entire point of a product like this is for XOC. Heat impacts stability, and the more you can cool these components the further you can push the card for those world-record benchmarks. It will obviously make a difference, but it's not going to be a difference you're going to care about while gaming on a 4090. It mattered more for something like the 3090 with its poorly-placed VRAM

After seeing 1k watt 4090s on stock air cooling this is just overkill unless you are going as silent as possible.

i guess you never custom watercooled a GPU? Backplates are not helping with temperatures in any way when your GPU is custom watercooled, unless there is vram on its backside. The whole card while being custom watercooled is cold to the touch already from only cooling it from one side, there isnt any improvement, if anything most backplates make it worse because most of them require you to mount your block slightly different.

When you spend $9,000+ on a system, and want the best of the best, what is an extra $200-ish dollars? It's your money and you more than likely worked hard to earn that. Treat yo'self. I'd rather spend the extra 2% of total cost to have that ease of mind knowing that you have the best possible cooling for your pc. I have a TUF OC 4090 as well and have been wanting to do a custom cooling kit for it since before I purchased on launch. But it is already a beast of a card and have not yet made that jump. Videos like these help nudge me closer to actually making that jump. Enjoy your build man. I bet it's a beauty and a beast.

@@farmertrueVR Hm ye, I know the 4090 is a beast, even under air. But I cool my PC with water, I always did. Its just a special experience while building such a pc and I just like to watch the finished build on my desk, it makes me happy. I dont like all those 0815 builds looking the same, I always want to have a build that is not like all the others, you know? I built the pc end of last year and I bought just the best that was available on the market, I mean I have fans for like 600€, so why not the active backplate for 400? :D Im pretty happy with it and I think, it will last for some years. If not, Im going to build a new one. Ye, Im working hard for my money and its not just a hobby, its a bit more to me. Thanks for your nice words and yes, it is a beauty and a beast. Can I ask, what motherboard are you using in your build? I want to use this waterblock, but I'm worried about the clearance between the card slot and the motherboard heatsinks.

It was. The point was mainly to help cool the memory chips on the back of the card. Now it's just exists to make ek more money because it's completely unnecessary since there are no memory chips on the back of any 40 series gpus. I mean it will help a little, but eh

Cool, but don't buy the one with the active backplate, it's a complete waste of money. It was only useful for the particular case of the 3090 which had memory chips on the back that would benefit from active cooling. The 4000 series do not have that, they do not require active backplate cooling at all.

So you spent $110 to get 5% performance from an overclock, instead of 25% performance by getting a better card? I mean id you're watercooling just to watercool, that's fine, but it's pointless from a cost effectiveness perspective.

@@ryanj610 I am not really interested in overclocking truth be told. I enjoy building watercooled rigs. If I overclock it's for like 10 minute while I run a benchmark.

It's needed in 2023 more than ever with the power density of modern chips. Why do you think air coolers are so huge these days? I also have no idea what you are talking about with the upgrades thing. Water cooling is an amazingly fun hobby and people who do it often times just do it for the fun of building out systems. It also looks badass. It's usually more of a matter of the journey being more important than the destination.

@@JathraDH Point 1. Yeah, put an AIO on your CPU, I have an H150i, no big deal. As far as your GPU, NO, it isnt needed. As I said, you might be able to argue it makes the GPU smaller, HOWEVER that is mostly irrellevant as a substantial portion of the cases that can take the kind of liquid cooling being discussed here can fit a full size 4090. As far as actual cooling needs, you are also wrong. My MSI 4090 Gaming X Trio is one of the coolest running cards ive seen in years, thanks to said massive cooler. As far as upgrades and not knowing what I am talking about, that is just your own choice to bury your head in the sand. Prime example. Lets say you have a system with a 3090 you water blocked along with your CPU, and maybe you went balls to the wall and did your board itself as well. Great, very pretty system. 3 months later you find a deal on your local offerup for a 4090 for $1400... some guys wife got pissed at him and he just needs to unload it fast. two days after that you find a deal for $450 to upgrade your 10900K to a 13700K... care to enlighten all of us as to the work and cost that will be neccesary for what otherwise would have been some quick easy upgrades?

Also, my 12900K with MSI 4090 in a Cooler Master Cosmos C700P looks plenty badass... just saying...

Mostly it is just for looks, and if you have money, then why not.

​@@dragonsystems5973 Well you just don't get the mentality of making a custom loop that much is obvious. The hobby isn't for everyone for sure. To each their own. However my point about power density still stands. There is more justification now than any time before it for using water cooling because power densities have never been higher. If that wasn't the case we wouldn't need 14 inch long 3-4 inch thick air coolers on our GPUs and have CPU's (13900K) that can't even really be properly cooled on most AIOs. Hell custom loops barely keep that thing cool without a delid. I should know. I have one running on my VERY overbuilt custom loop that runs sub 10C DT at full load and sub 2C idle and it can still hit 80c+ maxed out even without a massive overclock. As for upgrades, lol. People building custom loops would have just had the 4090 and 13900K to begin with, built the system with the loop and then coasted on it. Then they build the next system later on with the latest tech. You don't constantly need to upgrade when you build the system with the best available to begin with. The system goes together, destroys everything for many years and then when you upgrade you build a whole new PC which is another fun project down the road. Like I said, you just don't get the mentality of custom loop builders and that's fine.

How much degree celsius? My 2070 maxed out 68c. Average lower 64c.
