Here is how the land of Israel was viewed in 1513 B.C.E. at Exodus 15, when God, whose name is Jehovah (see Isa 12:2, KJV), had brought 10 plagues on Egypt (Ex 7-12), and then destroyed Pharaoh and his army in the Red Sea (Ex 14:26-28), that released the new nation of Israel from Egyptian slavery: "Jehovah is a powerful warrior. Jehovah is his name. Pharʹaoh’s chariots and his army He has cast into the sea........Who among the gods is like you, O Jehovah ?.......You will bring them and plant them in the mountain of your inheritance (see Gen 12:1, 7; Acts 7:3, 44, 45), the established place that you have prepared for yourself to inhabit, O Jehovah, a sanctuary, O Jehovah, that your hands have established."(Ex 15:3, 4, 11, 17) But things soon "turned sour", for the Israelites began to murmur and complain, so that within just three days after leaving Egypt, they began to "murmur against Moses, saying: What are we to drink ?"(Ex 15:22-24) About a month and a half later, they began complaining again, longing for meat and bread that they had while in Egypt and quickly forgot that they were Egyptian slaves.(Ex 16:1-3) The Israelites continued murmuring "before Jehovah" at Taberah, so that "a fire from Jehovah began to blaze against them and to consume some on the outskirts of the camp."(Num 11:1-3) With ten of the twelve spies sent to look over the land of Canaan came back with "a bad report" (Num 13:32), showing a gross lack of faith in Jehovah, the account says that "all the assembly raised their voice, and the people continued crying out and weeping all through the night".(Ex 14:1) Then there was Korah, along with Dathan and Abiram, that tried to usurp the position of high priest, wanting to wrest it away from Aaron, but which caused Jehovah's anger to blaze and destroy Korah and his followers of some 250 chieftains of Israel with fire and caused an earthquake to put to death Korah's household, Dathan and Abiram and their household, swallowing them up.(Num 16) So, here is what Asaph wrote at Psalms 78 regarding the nation of Israel upon arriving at the land of Canaan, and afterward: "And he brought them to his holy territory (Deut 34:1-4), this mountainous region that his right hand acquired. He drove out the nations from before them." "He allotted to them an inheritance by the measuring line (or gave each tribe specific boundaries); He settled the tribes of Israel in their homes (with the tribes of Manasseh, Reuben and Gad having territory on the east side of the Jordan). But they kept challenging God the Most High, and REBELLING against him;" "They did NOT pay attention to his reminders. They also turned away and were as treacherous as their forefathers. They were as unreliable as a loose bow. They kept offending him with their high places, and they incited him to fury with their carved images. God heard and became furious, so he UTTERLY REJECTED Israel."(Ps 78:54-59; "utterly rejected", Hebrew ma'ac m'od, meaning "to spurn with vehemence") So, by the time Jesus arrived as the promised Messiah in 29 C.E., what was the spiritual condition of the nation of Israel ? Totally ROTTEN, so that Jesus said this to the Pharisees that represented the nation some three days before they executed him on a stake: "Did you never read in the Scriptures (at Ps 118:22, 23), ‘ The stone (Jesus as the Messiah) that the builders (the Jewish religious leaders) rejected, this has become the chief cornerstone (of God's heavenly Kingdom). This has come from Jehovah, and it is marvelous in our eyes’? This is why I say to you, the Kingdom of God will be TAKEN FROM YOU and be given to a (new spiritual) nation producing its fruits (called "the Israel of God", Gal 6:16, that produces holy conduct, see Gal 5:22, 23)."(Matt 21:42, 43) Then, Jesus "put the nail in the coffin" for the nation of Israel NO LONGER being Jehovah's people, saying: "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the killer of the prophets and stoner of those sent to her-how often I wanted to gather your children together the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings ! But you did not want it. Look ! Your house (or the revered temple) is abandoned to you. For I say to you, you will by no means see me from now until you say (quoting Ps 118:26), ‘Blessed is the one who comes in Jehovah’s name !’”(Matt 23:37-39) So, the nation of Israel that was once Jehovah's people has been abandoned by him, and a new spiritual nation of both Jews and Gentiles is the one that he created to replace them.(see Isa 66:1-9) The nation of fleshly Israel is now awaiting their destruction at "the war of the great day of God the Almighty", called Armageddon, along with the rest of the political nations.(Rev 16:14, 16; 19:19-21)
