It is simple. The Dutch are simple. Embrace the Dutch and the Dutch culture and they will embrace you. Being from abroad will make the Dutch curious about your background and your culture, and especially food. As for hospitals, stay away from them if possible. Your GP is 1st line of health care, the hospital is 2nd line health care. Your GP is always there for you, and if (s)he thinks you need to go to the hospital (s)he'll make all the arrangements. Visits to your GF are free of charge, visits to the hospital are not, unless ordered by the GP. As for the 'empathy', yes, you are probably right. Some medical personnel just see their job as a job. Others guard themselves against getting too much involved with their patients. Because it can, and will, be very taxing. You could give your GP that feedback in a casual way. GPs get lots of training on this subject, so they shouldn't take it personal. Chicken pox ('Waterpokken') are extremely common with children. Almost every child around 5 years old will get a mild variant of it. It is so common and harmless that we don't even vaccinate against it, unless you are an adult or are in a risk group like pregnancy. As for medication and self-medication the Dutch culture is very restraint. Medication often does more harm than good, I can tell you from personal experience. And again, your GP will advise you what best to do. As for spiritual or psychological help many options are open to you. Your neighbours may be the best source of help. As for 'communities' the Dutch rank people into classes. Like kennissen, collega's, vrienden, goede vrienden. The latter are more like inlaws. But from acquaintances to buddies no one will refuse to help whenever you call upon them. Everybody understand you call them with good reason. You like to save money. That makes you part Dutch already.

Thank you so much for your contributions- so helpful! And we agree on your point regarding medication 💊- it’s a different and new experience for us here but one we are getting used to 😊

You know regarding the community perspective it takes time to build community. Do this video in 5 years and that perspective of community would have improved. I never comment on your RU-vid videos but I watch it all the time, I guess I commented because of the flavor your husband added to this video. Have more surprise guests like him 😂 Lovely share.

Wow, you give an overall rating between 8 and 9 for living in the Netherlands I think we Dutch should not complain so much about our country. Based on your assessment and that of other expats and immigrants the Netherlands is one of the best countries to live in. I'm so glad I'm born in the Netherlands. Great video. You should vlog together. You're a very nice couple Glad you like it here so much.

Hi, i can only imagine it being hard making (dutch)friends when you are not dutch and do not speak our language, this is not your fault, but in general it is harder to make friends when you are your age, most of the dutchies make their friends when they are younger and for some reason they find it harder to make new friends. but don`t be afraid to try, you seem very nice couple, good luck bless you

Thank you so much for watching! 😊 and you are correct, it is indeed harder to make friends as we get older. But the people are generally kind here so that’s been very nice.

I'm shocked how normal we consider our safety, and how uncommon that very sadly is around the world, it seems. My own foreign friends often say the same thing.
@jessbamtefa
@jessbamtefa Год назад
Absolutely 💯 Safety is one of the primary reasons why people from our part of the world look forward to living abroad.

I really did enjoy this, very informative. I feel like adding a very low background music to your videos would feel so pleasing to the ears. You have very sweet accent/intonation.

I hate background music when people are talking in a video or vlog. It is hard to understand what is said with music in the background I found it refreshing they didn't had music integrated in the video
