I don't know how he survived that horrible crash, or where he's going next" He just barged into a race and killed a bunch of people. He's going to jail.
I mentally imagine he just starts running at an incredibly high speed. Like climbs out. Stands there looking around for a bit--and then when the music picks up, he just starts running.
I just got introduced to them 2 months ago, when my friend showed me the Starlight Brigade music video. I was blown away. The music was EVERYTHING I've ever wanted; I love bands that have 80s sounds to them!!! The animation was everything I love about 90's anime and storytelling within music. So, slowly but surely, TWRP is gaining more followers and fans.
With The Protomen joining TWRP on their musical journey through the cosmos, my dream of hearing a Dan Avidan and Raul Panther III vocal duel grow ever closer.
Hipster Dinosaur tis the nature of the internet. Actually, tis the nature of opinions in general. You subject yourself to judgement when you present one
Hipster Dinosaur You wouldn’t have been able to present your opinion after the original poster. Someone else is doing the same thing to you. That’s all that is. There’s nothing wrong with a difference of opinion.
_It’s a beautiful evening here as we get ready to start the race!_ _The drivers are at the line and it looks like we’re almost set._ _Racers, start your engines._ _Go!_ _What’s this? A mystery car has just entered the race, and he’s coming from behind like a bullet!_ Can’t slow down this time, I gotta rev it up and go. I gotta keep it in the lines, Tonight there’s blood on the road. I keep the pedal down, They're gonna know how this felt. No one gets into heaven Without racing through hell. Eye for eye, Lap for lap, There’s no turning back. _And he’s caught them! That’s one hell of a driver!_ (You’ve got to slow down,) Feels like my blood is running hot, (The needle’s in the red.) In a shocking turn of events, the mystery car seems to be picking off each racer one by one!_ _I wouldn’t want to be out on that track tonight, this driver is out for blood..._ Burning up the road, I’ve got ‘em dead in my sight. (Faster!) ‘Cause I’m a phantom racer! (Faster!) (Faster!) I can hear my heart beat faster and faster and... (Born to race, die to win) (Faster!)
I'm not sure why, but I feel this is a job for the art style of someone like Uricksaladbar. The sort of comic-book mini-scene, zooming into each frame as the frames accentuate the individual lines of the song, providing animation to suit each particular narrative quote. Like, think of their video for Oney's Hypothetical Girlfriend, and you'll have a better idea why I think this is the perfect style for a music video for this.
After watching Starlight Brigade and Starbomb's Overwatch parody I can't help but feel that Knights of the Light Table would provide just as perfect a rendition of this as the former by merit of Starlight Brigade alone. Seriously a video for this would be amazing.
I always like to imagine this song as F-Zero. Just how fast paced it is and how brutal F-Zero really is. I imagine Captain Falcon is killing off all of these racers for bounty, as he is a bounty hunter. If I ever had the chance to animate something it would be this. So many ideas.
@@firstnamelastnamethirdname it’s a racer that is willing to give and and do anything to win, and from my assumption.. he pushes a car just like the 1st place car and got himself crashed at the turn and died, and is now the phantom racer
@@Xenogenocideee I thought it was based of The Wraith which a guy comes back as a "Wraith" ((vengeful ghost)) and races the guys who killed him to death.
I first heard of The Protomen when they opened for Tenacious D, where Jack claimed they were part of the D army. I've been waiting for him to say that about TWRP for so lng
Got hooked on The Protomen from this song... My only regret is I haven't listened to them sooner. Please let TWRP and The Protomen tour together next year 😁🤞🤞
yea, they are amazing!! i highly recommend going through the albums and having lyrics open on anouther page or whatnot. for some of their songs where its just music, or there are low points, there is story written for it.
I haven't seen anyone mention this yet, so I gotta say it. How freaking appropriate is it that they got The Protomen to collab on this one? We have a song here that is clearly a homage to Racer X from Speed Racer, a character which defined the "mysterious rival that's actually a long lost brother" trope that Capcom homaged when creating Protoman! We've come full circle here people!
This really should be a lyrics video :D Arin announcing is the best thing. The part when he says 'CHASED BY THE DEVIL HIMSELF! IN AN INCREDIBLE BURST OF SPEED' fills me with adrenaline!!
I have been absolutely obsessed with The Protomen, they’ve redefined my music taste, and now that I know about this song, TWRP is getting added to my obsession list
Hearing this live at Florida was an absolutely INCREDIBLE finisher. I still think that all night forever was a perfect finish, but I was still happy to hear both bands singing this.
The races are corrupt and everyone but the wannabe stars knows it. The top ten racers have been deciding who wins every year for ages now and any contender who manages to get there by pure skill gets taken out before they finish their second lap. The races have always been dangerous so nobodies held liable for the occasional accidental death. Just look at last year when they took out that home grown hero who'd made it all the way through the minor leagues in just a year and a half to challenge the big boys. He never even knew what hit him when they slammed him into that wall. Killed that kids dreams and thought they killed the rest of him to, turns out they thought wrong. Sure a burning wreck doesn't leave a lot of room for recovery but when you have that passion for the sport and a bloodlust based in revenge for being cheated out of a legitimate victory it's amazing what you can overcome. Now hes back to show them real racing and get even. No matter how good they are at rigging the game against poor kids who still believe they can't stand up to someone with real skills and a deathwish.
just as i was starting to get into TWRP a few years ago, my english teacher at the time asked us to take out our journals and write our thoughts as she played music. this was the first song that she played and since i was still just getting into TWRP i hadn’t heard it before. a few months later i ended up listening to the entire Together Through Time album and i heard this song again. i knew it sounded familiar at that point so i took out my journal to see if it was and low and behold when i find the entry i see i had written the words “i’m a phantom racer” throughout it. so now when i listen to this song i think of that teacher and i get really happy.
Out of things i was expecting. It was not a protomen colab with TWRP. I didnt even know the Protomen still played i used to listen to a couple of their albums nearly daily a few years ago.
Listening to this song makes me wonder, if in an actual racing event like NASCAR, what would the race organizers do if an unauthorized car suddenly entered the race and started wiping out the other drivers? What security measures do they have to prevent something like that from happening?
You know the best part about it? If a car could get onto the track somehow then there's factually nothing they can do until the car would need to pit. Without a pit crew he'd have maybe 4 or 5 F1 laps to take ALL 20 positions out. That's nuts, like I dont know if Senna could even pull that off
I made one of the major NPCs of my spelljammer DND campaign based off this song, Redline, F-Zero, and Speed Racer's Racer X and Protoman himself but this song was the main inspiration and they're one of my favorite characters

Headcanon: Any songs like this and Black Swan are secretly about the Starlight Brigade post saving the universe and disbanding, taking their separate skills and popularity away with them to become more famous
Saw these guys a couple days ago in buffalo and during this song, Doctor Sung turned to Raul Panther iii and said "But I cant help but feel like this Lead Singer looks familiar..." and everyone lost it lmao
>playing this on the motorway with my gf >"racing" the other drivers on the road >song reaches 2:55 >one car up ahead, driving Fast. >slow van further ahead >decide slow van is the finish line >PEDAL TO THE METAL >OVER 9000MPH >YES YES YES >GO GO GO > 3:23 >thread the needle between the car and the van >beat the other car past the van by an inch it was fucking amazing. the twist? my gf was driving.
I’m angry at myself for not coming across this song sooner. It’s fucking beautiful. Its glory makes me want to cry. I can feel the mystery drivers anger and despair through that amazing singing. And the bit where the announcer is describing the impending crash gives me chills. The music is perfect the whole way though. Well done.
Brynn Sparrow damn you’re right (didn’t see the guys age), well he sounds exactly alike, which is very high praise, wishing I knew who did the voice over Ridge Racer now.
