Thanks so much for this video! Using the lace to demonstrate made it very easy to understand how to tie the knot. I had to change the strings on my Beansprout banjolele for the first time, and was intimidated by the unfamiliar knot and tailpiece. I made it through with your help though! :)
WRONG!, but not your fault. Modern "No Knot" tailpieces are made WITHOUT the slot cut in the ball ends of the posts. The original idea was the nylon or gut string was placed in the slot, then the string wound around the post and on to the bridge, nut and tuning peg. The string clamped on itself and secured the end at the tailpiece. Problem is, all the MODERN "No Knot" tailpieces come without the slot in the ball posts and therefore REQUIRE a knot to be tied in the string, which negates the "No Knot" feature! I don't know who is responsible for this f-up, but there we are - No Knot tailpieces that now require a knot.
Thank you. This is a knot that I invented myself ages ago just from necessities pressure. For banjo string, I saw another video where the person takes about two inches of the string from one end and folds in half then ties a single knot that creates the loop. That is a great method only if your strings come very long. The factory strings are just enough long to meet the ends. So we definitely need a technique such as this one so string material is not wasted on the knot.
Does it matter what gauge steel strings are used. I already play the ukelele but I recently got a old banjolele that has metal strings. Can banjo strings be used as these are loop end. tks CD
1st time I've seen a RT+2 half hitches used. of course! why did I not think of that before (also a scout leader drrrr). it's a slip knot that you can tie big (and easy), pull and it becomes tight and neat. Thanks!!
