I love the colour! I have a saddle that is about this colour and I use it at times. It is not a chicken type of skin but I really like the similarities.
Beautiful pattern. It is a joy to watch you work. This may be the worng forum to ask but have you made a video tying the Renegade? How and when you might fishing it? Thanks for sharing your amazing craftsmanship!!
And another simple excellent tying example Davie ,can you explain to me in not too many words why sometimes its necessary to use the tip or the base of a hackle when its tied onto a fly
Hi Stuart, It's much easier to tye in hen hackles by the tip as they wind on much easier and with less bulk due to the stem being much finer...I also do this from time to time with cock hackles due to the same reason especially tying salmon flies.. All the very best Davie...
Thank you for your kind reply Davie and the explanation but what I was after was an understanding of what type of hackle, ie hen or cock goes with what type of fly, I am assuming that the dries have the stiffer cock hackle tyed from the tip & the softer hen hackle usually goes on the wets and various sinking flies. Thanks anyway for the reply & I will be looking forward to your other videos
Hi Davie im starting to put together a shadow box frame of 6 flies from the worlds best salmon fly tyers and i consider you def to be one of them, to be auctioned on the atlantic salmon fishing page and the proceeds directly going to Ayrshire Rivers Trust, theyre a non profit organisation and function on limited resources, they do an amazing amount of work down here in ayrshire, and theyre struggling for waders for their volunteers, would you consider donating two size 6 shrimp like doubles, your name will also be displayed along with details of the flies, John Richardson, Paul Slaney have agreed and hopefully yourself,,,, thankyou Vince.
