I very much like the technique you used to add legs to the fly. It seems so simple yet I've never thought of it in fifty years of tying. I typically add partridge, woodduck, or hackle fibers on either side and tie them in. It works but it is difficult to get the lengths the same on both sides and sometimes the legs get pulled down along the side. This is a great idea and I'm going to try a few nymphs right now with that technique.

Thanks Matt. I am glad that you like the idea & hope you find it easy to tie. Thanks mak

I thought that I’d seen all of Mak’s fly videos, then this video popped-up... a very nice pattern. Even though I’ve seen him do it before, I like how he burns the clear stretch, creating a clever tab/j-hook for a solid thread catch. As always, thanks, Mak!

What I did in the 80's; buy a fly tying kit that comes with a how-to book. Not be able to make heads or tails of the pictures because tying is about actions that can't be conveyed in a still-shot, and then give up in frustration. Drag out the kit twenty years later, after you discover this new internet thing and RU-vid and try again with better results. After you buy new glue and salvage the bits that haven't been eaten by weevils.

@Makflies
@Makflies 9 лет назад
Hi Mike. I am Glad you finding the videos helpful. There is no such a thing ugly fly Lol... its always the most scruffy flies catch more fish. Just keep practicing, soon you will get there. Cheers mak
@matttroutman4515
@matttroutman4515 9 лет назад
Hey Mike, it does take lots of practice before your flies start to look as good as the ones in stores. If you are just beginning to tie I'd suggest tying at least four of the same pattern so you get used to working with the materials and techniques. I'm sure you will see improvement on the last fly compared to the first.
@Makflies

Matt Troutman I agree matt. It takes few attempt for me to tie new pattern correctly.

Nice I tied in red,olive,black and the red color don't work as well as olive or black on my home streams but I still use red for rainbow trout cause the like bright colors like pink and red but I used olive and black dyed pheasant tail for this fly and they work great and I've found if I coat the stretch tubing with Sally Hansen it's extremely durable more than a regular pheasant tail nymph

Simple elegant and beautiful, thank you! Not that it makes a lot of difference, but have you tried creating "gills" on the abdomen between each wrap of clear strip? The fish likely won't care, but it will catch more than a few fishermen. Oh, and we just subscribed! Cheers!

Thank you very much The Audiostud, I really appreciate that and I am glad that you are really taking interest for tying flies it is a great fun, As for the Mackeral , Bass , Pollock, the Flies are Different, I have not yet had an experience tying them but soon I shall be looking into it. If you google there are plenty of Saltwater Pattern for all those fish Regards mak
