For some reason the Green Peter reminds me of the past. It reminds me of my best friend back in the day, Rodger Stewart and his parents John and Joyce. His mom was built like a Grizzle Bear, she wielded the authority. His Sister was my first crush, his brothers were my friends. They adopted me and took me fishing and hunting with them. Not that my dad didn't but the farm had him and it was I suppose a great way to learn about life. Rodgers Family was my home away from home. I lost touch with them all, I don't know why I just did and now Rodger and his parents are gone. Just his Sister and a brother, maybe two. They were great days, drifting Caddis through our pieces of creek. Kathy would get a fish in and Rodgers would be yelling "I'm Cooooming Kathy!" A whole pack of Grizzlies could not have made so much noise, but who cares. It was the best of days and that is what the Green Peter wakes up in me.

I had a habit of eye crowding with this one initially but soon balanced it out. A really effective and robust fly. Had 8 Grayling to 1.5ld in less than an hour on the Tees this October on very smooth, flat water - a joy to fish in a 16 (I cut down quantities accordingly) and proper takes that stuck! I have a few spools of the Spartan wrap - good to know there is another source. Thanks very much.

Long shot here Davie, but you don't know the name of a book this pattern featured in? I used to take it out the Kilbirnie library as a boy, and trying to find the name so i can try and find a copy. I think it had a creamy coloured cover and also had some baitfish and prawn patterns tied with SLF hanks in it. Thanks Martyn

Hi Martyn, I have had a look through my books as I know there was a couple that had Davy's flies in them and I could only find one, it was Bob Church's Guide to New Fly Patterns. I gave away the other book just a month or so ago and I think this was one by John Roberts which may have had some of Davy's flies as well. I have attached a link for you to see it as well..I hope this is of some help to you... All the very best Davie www.amazon.co.uk/Collins-Illustrated-Dictionary-Trout-Flies/dp/0002184915 blackwells.co.uk/bookshop/product/9781861263063?gC=5a105e8b&gclid=Cj0KCQjwyZmEBhCpARIsALIzmnJQOGSQSrFffCJ21O3xZEEKnBaO-oEyYOXHQ9NhL7ewx9mxEvOLmWwaAoFvEALw_wcB

@@DavieMcPhail Thanks Davie, I thought you'd hae mind. I think the Bob Church one might be the one, I know I had a copy of that that disappeared in a flitting some time. I'll just get them both and see. Thanks again for the help

Davie, I didn't know what SLF was so, I Googled' it. I found that "all SLF products were developed by Davy Wotton - the well known Welsh fly tier", being the same gentleman that you mentioned. All the best.

Hi Danny, Yes it is, I've known Davy for many years though he has lived in America for many years so I've only messaged him an odd time...I tyed many of his flies in the early 90s so I got used to using his materials which Wapsi now sell... All the very best Davie..

This is a true go-to pattern, very very nice buggy profile. I’ve seen so many tutorials from other tiers, but they pale compared to your techniques, now I’m spoiled forever, I can’t get enough !! Please keep them coming. L 👍🙏👍 PS What brand of scissors do you use, they impress me greatly, thanks again.

Dear Davie, I am very glad to see you using the UNI clear mylar wrap. I contacted UNI about a year and a half ago asking if they had any clear wrap available, but they didn't. I told them you used the Spartan clear wrap a lot. Several weeks later, they sent me the first sample to try out. I explained if they would get a hold of you, it would be a marketable item for UNI. They began spooling it here in the states finally for your viewers and everyone else. Thank you for all your videos and time you put forth; they have helped me tremendously. I do have questions from time to time, is there a way to email you at your convenience? Thanks for everything! Durk
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 9 лет назад
Hi Durk, It is great to see Uni has started doing the clear wrap and it's all down yourself so thank you very much for this as there's many tyers out there that were looking for it.. Some materials can be hard to find so I do try and use materials that can be bought... Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year when it comes... All the very best Davie

Greetings Davie, the wax you use for grip can I purchase it some where... If you have a chance I'd love to watch you tie a small sulphur pattern possibly with light dun snow shoe & CDC wing/parachute and the rest I'll leave up to yourself size 16-20 for my home town river West Branch Delaware NY. The trout are very particular and tuff to fool!! All the best!

Hi Jason Dubur, I use Veniards Prepared Fly Tyers Wax which you will be able find on the internet very easily.. I do have videos on the flies you asked about and I also know the fish on the Delaware can be very fussy... All the very best Davie

Hey Davie, have you used this fly and if so how? Just curious because I never seem to have much luck with them here in Ontario Canada (now in Alberta)
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 10 лет назад
Hi Brian Gray, This fly is being fished in conjunction with others and it's been working best on the point of the cast but it could easily be fished on the droppers as well and this would be on a loch rather than a river..If I was fishing it on the river then I would fish it itself just as I would do any dry though I would fish it a size or two smaller.... All the very best Davie

What happened to your Law vise? This looks like a Regal. I have never noticed it in any of your videos before. Nosey I guess, but I love the Law unfortunately the only new ones I can find are in excess of 3000 pounds. too poor for that, I think most of use would be unless we spent everyday, all day tying flies for someone who pays really good for doing what you love. Some people are lucky enough to have that very thing. All the best, Sean
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 10 лет назад
Hi Sean, I still have my Law vice but I've been using a Regal for the last few weeks and the reason why is that it's a vice that you can buy unlike the Law which is no longer being made..Many ask what vice I use and when I say that it's unavailable they are disappointed... All the very best Davie
@seanmooney3907
@seanmooney3907 10 лет назад
Oh last I checked there were still some new old stock available on a UK website but they were in excess of 3000 pounds! That's almost twice as much in USD. Only the well off can afford to buy a new one now. I like Regal, but I bought a Petitjean because it can accommodate any hook from #32 to 9/0! It has been difficult to get used to after using my Norvise,(still have and use). I just like the look of the Law and I was also disappointed that I couldn't get one either
