Hi Davie, Now that’s a real old classic pattern, tyed in a traditional way using Pearsall Silk and spinning the dubbing… beautifully done. Regards, Wayne 😀👍
I always appreciate getting shown a new technique and the way you dubbed that body is something I've never seen before, I usually twist it on or split the thread. I've never seen flattening in then spinning the bobbin. Cheers for that mate 👍
Приветствую, Дэви! Да , очень понравилась! Спасибо вам за подробное объяснение. Я включаю авто перевод и смотрю, и слушаю. Мухи ваши просто супер! Успехов вашему делу!
Definitely! The Partridge and Orange is in my opinion the greatest river Trout fly ever invented, it’ll fish from the start of the season to the last day! 🎣
I did enjoy it, Davie... thank you. Of the many flies you've tied over the years, this fly is one of my favorites. I use them year around. Unless you want, or need to remove it, I'm hoping you leave the original tying video up. It's an old friend. Just watched that one again for the umpteenth time. Still just as much fun and instructional. Mike
Many bamboo fly rod builders use it to wrap the eyes but I understand they stop making it. I have been using Japanese silk for a long time. Many more colors.
Just a simple beautiful fly. Gotta love Red Grouse. There are lots of larger flies on those skins that I use on bugger style patterns. What do you do with the big ones?
Hi @ross1458, I mainly use them for wings as they are nice and soft and not too stiff which some wings can be.I'm glad you liked the fly.. All the very best Davie
Hi Davie/folks Sorry to hijack these comments, no other way to contact.. You kindly recently gave a link to the Angelina UV fibre you use. I got some, and also the 'blaze' version of the same material. This still flouresces, glows, strongly in UV light, but has sort of pinky/beige/gold/green, more natural highlights instead of blue - I don't know, but I think it'll blend beautifully with natural furs.and just thought to mention. Have you tried it? Roger
Im fairly new to fly tying, having only started doing it this past January, but I've always had a bitch of a time with soft hackle. I mean, I've really only used partridge and just the bags of loose feathers at that, but I need to say screw it and spend the money on a couple decent capes or wings. That being said, when i do get a decent feather, I suck at using it. Just hard to pull the fibers back so i dont have to remove one side of them. And they refuse to be evenly distributed, always sticking together with some facing the wrong direction. Might be easier with decent hackle pliers
