Really like your videos and the way you take your time explaining things, I have just returned to fly tying after 20 years, now the brown trout season is over, I plan to tie nymphs for using French leader style, this one will be among them for sure, Thanks

Hello Davie. Thanks for your feedback. We are having a good season down here in Patagonia. But the best is still to come, because the big brown trouts will start migrating upstream in April. Im talking about the Limay river to be precise. Your tips on how to fish with nymphs are really helpful. What you say about caddis moving upwards very fast in order to hatch makes sense and explains why I had good catches when retreaving the line. Thanks again for your time and all the best. Yours Fernando

This is an excellent pattern. It has become my go to nymph. I fish for trout in Western Pennsylvania, USA and I fish it with another larger nymph and it is usually the first fly to get hit. Thanks.

Hi Davie! Thanks for a lift. I'm getting better every day and my flies look much better. I'm still have a problem with placing pheasant tail fibres around the body but i think it's because i'm out of fibres long enough. Thanks again, take care :)

Dave, another beautiful fly, I am 30 years, military retired, and disabled from combat injuries, last 3 combat tours as a convoy gunner, lost commander, soldiers, and too many coalition friends. I 2008, I connected-up with a PROJECT HEALING WATERS chapter, and developed trout fever, learned casting, fishing, and tying my own flies. I now have had 8 surgeries, and getting ready for my 9th, which is a second left shoulder surgery. I want to get back to tying, and found you as my incredible teacher. There is so much more that I need to learn. Dave, for my own curiosity, do you ever sell any of your flies? I have always loved tying very small flies, nymphs, midges, etc. Thank you for your contributions, MSG Leum

Hi Davie, Fantastic videos! I have only recently taken up fly fishing and even more recently tying and I'm learning a lot. I'm just going to stick to the 'classic' nymph patterns for now and go from there. I have a question - when using my bobbin holder and winding on thread or wire, I get a small tingling sound when the thread is under tension - is this normal? It doesn't seem smooth like in your videos. I use a Dr Slick ceramic bobbin holder. Keep up the superb work and thanks a lot,

Hello Davie, thank you for sharing your great patterns and fly tying skills. I have been enjoying learning to tie, watching your videos and the the videos of other excellent tiers. What sizes do you typically tie this pattern with. By the size of your fingers in comparison to the hook, I am guessing 16/18 ? Thanks again. Tight lines.. Douglas

Hi Ali, I used UTC Shell Pink and UTC X-Small Red Wire on the pink version as you said and fox squirrel is one of my favourite natural dubbings so you have the dressing.. All the very best Davie

Hi, Davie! I,m from Lithuania (neighbour country of Poland) and this video is absolutely super! I`m tying and fishing grayling with the same nymphs, but i didn`t thought how easy it is tyed. Thank you a lot! I would like to ask a question if i can. For legs imitation i`m using a cock feather without fibers on one side of the feather and i do a couple of wraps. Isn`t the cock feather too stiff for leg imitation for fly like this? P.S. Sorry for my english :)

I remember watching this. I still have a few in my fly box. I did not obviously leave a comment behind, so I am now. Have I been following you for that long? Oh Lord Davie, I think it's been longer. I don't remember what the first pattern I saw you tie was. I think one from 13 years ago. So I've finally left my comment at 0600 hrs on Sept 13, 2022

Thank You, Davie, for Your reply, i realy appreciate it a lot! Now i tied a bunch of these flies after i saw this Your tye and i`m waiting for grayling season start in Lithuania. And, if i could, if it isn`t to impudent, i`d like to ask You a question - maybe You could share how to tye streamers for truot in early spring (when the rivers are full of water after winter) - maybe a woolley bugger, a muddler, a zonker or something. Thank You again for Your comment. Once again, sorry for my eglish :)

What is the advantage to the Polish pheasant tail nymph or when do you fish it ?
@falizarraga
@falizarraga 13 лет назад
Hi Davie. I´m from Argentina. You´re a kind of fly-tying hero for me and a bunch of friends down here. I have a question regarding how to fish with this pattern and nymphs in general. I normally cast upstream and let it drift freely. But, to my surprise, the best catches (and most of them) occurr when I am retrieving the line. This fact puzzles me and can´t find an answer. Do trouts find the nymph behaving like a small streamer? That goes against the book, but....I have no clue.Thanks. Fernando
