A beautiful pattern, and a great one for people new to fly fishing (not necessarily to tie, but to use) because I've noticed that apart from working great on grayling, this type of fly is an absolute magnet to small and medium sized perch. Great for kids and beginners.

Hello Davie. I finally got around to watching this video. I have one question and a couple of comments. Have you considered coloring the back of the abdomen prior to applying the resin? I would think it would be more color fast as I have found that most permanent markers overtime will "wear" off where applied. My comments are these: this is the first time watching any tying video that I have seen copper wire used to shape the underbody. I thought I was the only one who used this technique. Finally, your thread wrapping technique is wonderful. I have spoken with many tyers who produce videos and directed them to watch you videos regarding this particular aspect. So many time, sloppy thread wrapping is seen in videos and your constant use of touching turn virtually throughout the entire fly makes it look great. Don't forget, when you have the time, a video on you scissor grip, as we previously discussed would be great. Thanks again as always. MP

Hi Mark Patenaude, I have done both to be honest with you but I found coating the resin and then finishing it off with a coat of varnished worked well and I've had no complaints...If you prefer to use the marker pens first and you are happy with the results then don't let me change you...I really appreciate you recommending my videos to others and I'm glad you enjoy watching and using some of the methods I use to tye my flies... All the very best Davie

Very nice fly. Do you prefer bugbond over Deer creek diamond hard in terms of viscosity?
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 10 лет назад
Hi Kim Krikau Jensen, I do like bug bond and the reason why is that it's more flexible and less likely to crack like deer creek that I used a couple of years ago, but they may have one now that is flexible as they were talking about getting it at the time... All the very best Davie
@krikauflyfishing
@krikauflyfishing 10 лет назад
Okay. Yes I've noticed that diamond hard gets very hard when cured. They have a flex version now, but I haven't tried it. People seem to complain about the bug bond that it does not cure tack free. Do you have any problems with that?

How do you decide which flies are dubbed using a dubbing loop and which are dubbed with dubbing just twisted onto the tying thread?
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 4 года назад
Hi Rob, This nymph will represent some of the larger species of fly that hatch early in the season and with the heavier water that we get at times I've found the dressing to be very productive though I would also have some tyed a little lighter when fishing in low water conditions..If you have patterns similar to this then tye some using the dubbing loop instead of just dubbing it on and see how they fish for you especially in the faster runs you may find they are more productive.. All the very best Davie..

any tips on keeping superglue longer..1 month then having to throw half a bottle away..i use loctite..??
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 8 лет назад
Hi bob robert, You can keep the Superglue in the fridge which will help to keep it from going off but I would spend more time going back and forth getting it than tying so I just put up with it going off well before the bottle is half empty... All the very best Davie
