Such a nice fly that you make look so easy to tie. Definitely going to try both type of Humpy flies you have done. Love watching these before bed. Your voice and manner are so peaceful and relaxing. Thanks Davie.

Davy, Lovely dressing as per usual. It is still a mystery how you get all those materials on a wee hook.

Thanks very much for all the videos and tips, I learn so much from your vast knowledge of tying, proportions etc, could you please give us an idea as to how you size CDC feathers small med large ? i really struggle with this i buy the bulk bugs and try to sort them... Thanks again JFB

@DavieMcPhail 4 года назад
Hi John, The most common CDC feathers sold are Mallard and they are a good mix of large 1 1/2 inch, medium 1inch and 1/2 inch feathers which is a rough guide as they can be slightly bigger or smaller...These feathers will tye most flies though you can get a white CDC which comes from a domestic duck which can be dyed, you may have seen me using them in some of my videos..Knowing what size to use on the flies your tying is just down to how heavy you want to dress the fly and what style of pattern, I'm sure I say what size to use so use the videos as a guide..I hope this is of some help to you and thank you for the kind words.. All the very best Davie..

Hi Davie, your certainly coming up with some simple yet innovative ideas [as always]. Would you say that the olive humpy could be a fair representation of the BWO?
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 4 года назад
Hi Peter, It would be a great pattern for the BWO as that is what I would use it for. This style of fly is perfect for any of the small and even some of the larger mayflies that come off both on lochs and especially the river...I'm glad you enjoyed the tying and the flies I tye... All the very best Davie..

Hi David great video as normal, is there anything else else can I use for the tail? Thanks
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 4 года назад
Hi I Believe, Cock hackle fibres would be ideal as this is what I use when I have no coq de leon, I'm glad you enjoy the videos.. All the very best Davie

How would tie a sulfur humpy in this style? Simple patterns often most effective. Thank u for the video
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 4 года назад
Hi Brian, I have a few in my box but I can't attach a photo for you. if you use a yellow olive coloured CDC feather and the Coq de Leon fibres for the tail and tye the fly with a Cahill or Yellow thread and with a sulphur coloured dubbing you will be close enough to the same dressing I use..I'm glad you enjoyed the video... All the very best Davie..
